What is the word on recruiting, new guys coming in, current redshirts?

Are we lookin good? What do we need? What is our weakness?

My first thought would be our running game with Trevyn and Bo gone.

What is Justin White's status? Justin averaged almost 7 yards per carry on 30 attempts in 2008.

Has he recovered from his injuries? Will he be eligible?

Is he coming back? I heard there is a new running back and White might not return to the team next year?

I hear Justin White's back is messed up bad and he will not return. I did hear that Booker had a great redshirt year and is a super hard worker. He will have a great season next year. I also hear the O-line will be getting Cameron M. back for a 6th year + JC Orem + Titan Timoeto +Caleb Turner + Tim Farabee + a couple of stud redshirts. And I hear that Kevin Halfill will be moving to left tackle. If he bulks up and has a good season at LT he's NFL bound.

Joe Collins is getting an extra year which is huge. Does not look good for Naks though, which is also huge. The beast has left the building, but the D-line will be fine, they just need a 6'3" 315 pounder out there to give our small, but physical linemen a break. DBs actually look very good for next year, I hear. I think Marciel is the wild card. If the receivers cant get their act together as a unit, I think we see Marciel moving to slot in the fall.

I think the two big ? marks are the D-ends and receivers. the receivers are talented, but can they stay on the same page with Higgins? Same goes for the O-line and Booker. The only D-end I know of right now is Caldwell, who is a good pass rush guy and is very active, but I'm not sure if he's that anchor guy like Linehan was. We shall see.

Offense needs a running game
Defense needs a pass rush

I know me, Bengalhater, tal, and Catcat probably all have some eligibility left, we could platoon and definitely be an anchor for the D-line. What do you say guys, you in? Bengalhater 6'3 295lbs tal 6'4 290 lbs catcat 6'2 at least 315lbs  AJ 6'1 and a rocked up 310 lbs. sounds like we have a pretty good d-line right?

No problems with the poundage there, but not so sure about the HEART of any of those guys!

Torn ACL and PCL. I hear he has pretty much given up on getting his year back. Apparently the only way you get a hardship year is if you were, at some point, forced or encouraged by a doctor to redshirt due to injury. If you can prove that a doctor told you "I recommend you redshirt because you pulled your groin" or something like that then you have a case for a 6th year. I have heard that the big schools have doctors (probably retired)in their pocket who will vouch for a player. Weber State needs more ethically ambiguous doctors who love football!

Not true, Derek Johnson got his 6th year and it was a very similar injury and timing of Nak's injury. And believe me, Nak's doctor would have gladly recommended he redshirt, i would know I had the same Surgeon as Nakamura.

I believe one of the main reasons Derek Johnson got his year back is because his injury occurred on an illegal block.

Good point.

One of the Admins added teams that you can be fans of, and for some unknown reason, it switched everyone to being a fan of Sac State. Go to your User Control Panel, go to Profile and then you can change it. Once changed, click on Submit. Now, Larry the Farmer can be a fan of Hawaii.

I still don't see Utah St in the teams we can dislike most. :)

I do not know the circumstances of Johnson hardship year. I do know that Naks redshirted as a freshman, for reasons most freshman redshirt; he needed to develop. If he had redshirted because he got hurt in camp or during the season he would have an argument to get a 6th year. Getting a 6th year weighs heavily on the reasons you redshirted in the past. Or if you did not redshirt at all and got hurt after the third game of the season you would have an argument to get a hardship. Naks' reason for redshirting as a freshman had nothing to do with injury, so he does not get his year back. It has nothing to do with the injury he sustained last season against ISU.

I'm not sure if Johnson redshirted as a freshman, but if he did, I can bet that he made an argument (with proof)that an injury forced him to redshirt as a freshman. Like Naks Johnson's injury against Montana in 07 had nothing to do with him getting his year back. A player has until the third game of the season to redshirt. Johnson got hurt in the fourth game of the season as a senior, so if he had a redshirt year available he would not have been able to use it, thus an argument for a hardship year.

There is a new rule in the NCAA that allows a player who has lost 2 years due to injury to get one back. As far as Mr. Johnson's situation goes, he played as a true freshman at 21 years old off of his mission. The following year, his true sophomore season, he suffered a season ending dislocated elbow in the first game that tore all the ligaments and tendons in his elbow. Because no red-shirt was used he was able to use his original red-shirt and got that year back. He then played his red-shirt sophomore and junior seasons the following 2 years. His senior season he had a season ending knee injury in the 4th game and lost the whole year. Because he lost 2 years to injury the NCAA granted him a medical red-shirt. The rules state that if you lose 2 years to injury you can gain one back. In order to be eligible for a red-shirt a player can not participate in more than 4 games in the season. Anything more than 4 and they are ineligible for a red-shirt. Hope that clears everything up.

That Johnson kid was a hell of a player. :!: ;)

I wish we still had him on the team, to provide leadership for our young defense! 8-)

Possible small correction: whether it's the fourth of third game of the season may depend on whether it is a twelve game season or an eleven game season.
