We also could use a JUCO LB or two to step in for Mitch Beckstead, "the West Side wonder," and we really need a JUCO pass rushing end or two with the graduation of Austin Graves.

Skippy. thank you for the quote. Maybe, the recruiting philosophy is starting to change a little bit. Is it?
I don't know that it has changed dramatically. Remember two years ago ISU needed immediate help at linebacker and went out and signed four junior college kids. This year they need immediate help at linebacker and defensive end, and they are looking in the JC market. The majority of their scholarships will still go to high school kids, of course. I really love the way recruiting has progressed under the Kramer staff. Around signing day I'll spend some time analyzing past classes and talking about hits and misses. But what's not to like, really? The APR issues have been successfully fixed, we haven't heard of any off the field issues (knock on wood), and the team is winning and seems to be well positioned from a personnel perspective for the future. I'd say Kramer and staff have hit a home run.

I agree that this program has really hit stride and looks to be set up well for the future. If this class comes together like I think will (there are a couple of commits that have not been made public) it will be a very good class. I know they are very proud of last years class and think some of the kids that red shirted have a chance to be very special players. The emphasis this year was to improve the defensive line and shift to a more even front look. It looks like they are getting these type of players. The Rb from Vegas and the JC DT are huge gets. If they can get commits out of the JC DE's and a couple of DB's count this class as very good. If one of the QB's step up next year this team could be very good.

Fineanganofo, Hollowell, and Gueller, and Tharpe would be guys that could challenge for starting spots Martin, WR jones, and Ricks could contribute from what I have heard. You never know though as freshman seem to make big jumps in their first to second seasons.

The Statesman is reporting that Eagles High QB Hunter Floyd has committed to ISU as an athlete.

Story about Rigby's Cano committing to ISU. He is apparently Jon Ryheem Peoples' brother:

http://www.idahostatejournal.com/members/isu-football-bengals-snag-rigby-defensive-lineman/article_5e71ae22-a5f1-11e4-a097-4f70e45f34bf.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That's great to hear that Eagle High's Josh Labrador and Hunter Floyd are both coming here. Now all we need is for Eagle's Sawyer Shields to commit to ISU. Sawyer is a 6'3", 225 lb. LB, who's also played on the defensive line. Sawyer is from Arkansas originally and would love to play for the Razorbacks, but if he didn't get an offer there then he would like to play for BSU so his folks could see him play. He's already visited the campus. He's also had interest from schools such as Oregon State, Utah State, Arizona, Washington State, Wyoming and others, but only has an offer thus far from Montana. So if that school remains his only offer, then I would think that we'd be right there with the Griz -- since Poky's a lot closer to Boise than MIssoula is. And a couple of his good friend teammates have already signed to play for the Bengals. Sawyer's dad is Mickey Ray Shields, who owns the Mickey Ray's BBQ restaurants here in town.

Looks like ISU made offers to 2 JC kids
WR Riley Smith Ventura JC

QB Michael Sanders Scottsdale JC
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3914876/michael-sanders" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

JC QB looks like he can sling it. Would be a great get. Think I read that he was the 4th best JC passer in the country.

......heck....i'd go after some of his receivers too....I know we have a great bunch....BUT you can never have enough good folks who can catch the ball....and then fly.... :coffee:

I'll explain this again. You recruit JC kids to balance your classes. Every position that does not have a deep sophomore group from last years is being filled with JC kids. DLine, Linebacker, Corner, WR, all having a JC recruited to add depth to the Junior class next year. Kramer has recruited at least fourJC kids every year he has been here.

The Sanders offer surprises me. I would have thought that if they wanted to go the JC route for a QB, they would have made sure he transferred at the semester break so he could participate in Spring ball. I assume it's too late to enroll for the Spring semester. This could result in a lack of clarity as to who the starter will be come fall. Does anyone have any insight as to what is going on?

Smith played HS ball at Timberline, and showed the same 4.38 time in the 40 when he was coming out of high school. Didn't Madison play at Timberline? I wonder if there is a connection.

Some tidbits to pass on
JC LB Jake Pettit was on OV this weekend
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2697764/jake-pettit-" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

JC DT Nikko Taylor is ineligible and most likely not going to be a Bengal

I believe DL from Utah was on OV most likely this guy

Heard that ISU got a couple huge verbal commits this week. I guess we will find out for sure in a couple weeks. This could turn out to be very good class. Good times :thumb:

Loyal Fan:

For what it's worth, I've been hearing since the end of the season that Tanner Gueller is the odds on favorite to be the starting quarterback next year. A lot can happen between now and then of course but that's what I have been told by folks who should know about the process.

We'll see how it plays out.

On the other hand, I totally understand the offer to a QB like Sanders. If you can get someone that good for two years, letting him tutor your RS Freshman, why not? Coach K repeatedly says the perfect scenario is for a true freshman to spend 1000 days in the program before he's a starter. Look at what Arias did when he came...first year used VERY sparingly as a sophomore backup, then redshirted, and then had two great years as a Jr and Sr...with the senior season a record-breaker in almost every positive way. It's true there's a learning curve for a JC transfer, but a kid with Sanders' experience would likely perform better than a RS freshman. If you expand the scenario out...you can see it repeating over and over. However, Mike's QBs at MSU often started young, too...and they did very well. Even if a kid like Sanders comes in, the QB will have to earn his spot as a starter, no matter who it is. No reason not to be positive either way.
