smjcpa[/color]"]I hope that he is a lot better than what we had last year. Can this guy put the ball in the endzone on kick-offs?

Williams averaged 65+ yards and 3.85 seconds hang time at the kicking.com combine finals last January in Costa Mesa during the AFCA convention.

Technically, Williams finished third behind Donnie Carona (signed with Texas Tech) and Drew Alleman (signed with LSU) at the combine KO finals, but his kicks were better than Carona's who didn't have to kick against him head-to-head.

His hang time was not that good as a freshman at Alcorn State in 2006 but he managed a handful of touchbacks when they allowed him to make real kickoffs.

I don't know how he will do in Ogden at 4500 feet.

You can see his kicks online at iplayers:
http://www.iplayers.net/players/783

He missed a few of those kicks pretty bad, let's hope he is more consistent or we will have the same problems as last year. Mac will have to go for it instead of kicking the field goal.

Yup, WSUCatfan! Jon performed poorly in field goals at the final of three combine events, missing half of his FG attempts, but I hope you took a few moments to look at his entire body of work on iplayers. In the 2007-08 combine series, he was 20 of 24 FGA, June through January:
http://www.combineseries.com/statsbyplayer.asp

In NCAA D1 games in 2006 Jon was 8/9 FG in the red zone, with one blocked. It will be very interesting to see how he performs in an actual game for Weber in 2008!

As you noted, consistency will be key. I suppose after a couple of games, Mac will do the math in his head for each 4th and long in the red zone, and calculate the odds based on observed performance in practices and games. I don't think Mac will be sentimental, one way or the other. 8-)

Native, I am going to call your bluff. Most football junkies know the stats of the QB, Receivers, Running back, and the defense as a whole, but not many know the hang time and etc of the place kicker, or the stats of special teams.

Native must be a legit WSU football fan!

;D I look forward to meeting ya'all at the games! ;)

176 days and counting to the next kickoff. :'(

You guys will be thoroughly sick of me by then! :-X

You nailed me, but I really do care about the stats.

I am an analyst and program manager by trade. When I observed the kids' high school coaches making poor management decisions >:(, rather than getting confrontational, I volunteered to do stats.

At least that way, the coaches would have objective data upon which to ground their decisions 8-), instead of relying primarily on subjective emotion.

It made a difference to the teams during the season, and post-season it also made a difference to a lot of the kids looking for college opportunities who needed their stats for their resumes. :D Maybe more importantly, I made friends with the coaches instead of becoming an enemy and sulking in the stands.

Mac is smart as heck. I don't think Mac suffers from the poor management or decision making you often see, even in the college ranks. He also learns from his mistakes, and from reading the boards he is obviously working his butt off and doing everything he can to make the program succeed. Mac is a big reason I am really excited and optimistic about the upcoming season. ;D ;D ;D

Wide Receivers coach Don Bailey leaves WSU after only 1 season in Ogden.
He will now be the Quarterbacks coach at South Dakota State University.
How on earth is this a step up?
Was there some conflict between coaches or something?
This just doesn't make sense to me, someone please explain!!

Nope. ??? Doesn't make sense, but I suppose Mac has lots of contacts and will not have much trouble finding a replacement. 8-)

Is anyone on the board planning to watch the final spring football scrimmage? Do folks tailgate on the day of the scrimmage?

I will be watching but it depends on what day it is, and at what time. If you know the date and time of the spring scrimmage it would be appreciated.

Who is the new O-Line coach?

Gerke is still listed in the staff directory, and I found no recent news stories on the WSU web site, CSN or the Standard Examiner site.

The school does a pretty crappy job of keeping its athletic site updated. They probab will have the new coach in the directory after the season starts in August.

Coach Stack told me that the final spring scrimmage will be on the 19th of April. :)

What will the weather be like that time of year? Will everybody be ready to tailgate? :D

Think we could get coach Mac to make a post-scrimmage speech to the faithful? ;D

I will be able to attend the fianl spring scrimmage! The weather could be nice, raining, or snowing. The weather could have all three of those during the scrimmage. Coach Mac usually does a chalck talk before the scrimmage. I am looking forward to seeing everybody there!

I will be there. Last spring Coach Mac spoke before the scrimmage while the team was warming up. After the scrimmage they had a meet and greet on the field with fans, players and coaches. It was a beautiful sunny day last year.

What time do they usually start?
