Rose City Red, Green & White as school colors

Using the old Portland Rosebud material wouldn't be right as we need to be original in our own concept. We need a rich darker red to go with a rich darker green (white in the middle).

I believe the combinations that would look right and feel right would tend to use a darker green and a darker red together (found in Oregon nature) with white. Anyway, that's more the work and consideration of Nike's design team for Portland State, to find the best combination(s) that work, look natural and are thus great for us. Multiple hue combinations are possible.

Okay, you've made your opinion known. You needn't belabor the issue. Message received. It would be good to hear what others think on the subject, though. That's one "No Rose" for Portland State from the Timbers' fan.

But I think since Portland State is a state university in Portland that it would make sense to honor Portland as the university's host and that city is the Rose City. The American Beauty Rose is red in color, and I believe we could set Portland State apart from its unbeloved past by incorporating the Rose and reminding the people here that it is the state university for the city. The university may claim the Portland Rose for itself as it belongs to the city the same way the UO belongs to Eugene and OSU belongs to Corvallis.

What is a more poetic symbol for Portland than the Rose and what fills Portland State's identity as belonging to the Rose City more than that symbol? Whoever would suggest that Portland State not sport the Rose of the Rose City where it dwell is simply not in sync with Portland State's better interests.

For what its worth, I like the idea, even though there is a lot of red in the conference. Rose red for the City of Roses. And even though green may suggest a loyalty to the Ducks, I like it for us, with Portland being a "green" city and PSU being a "green" campus. I think we could lay claim to green more than the Ducks.

It's one thing to try an ad hominem attack. Those get boring really fast.

To do it in Soccer City USA is, well, funny.

That doesn't mean I don't get the sentiment and the symbolism. That's obvious and understandable. It's just the red and green in the same place, probably with equal prominence. Done like that, it's a clash. That was the emphatic objection from the floor.

What really disappoints me is that you missed the obvious local example.

Even then, it's a black background. Moreover, there's never been more than the sliver of green on the crest. It's always been a red primary kit and a white alternate (sometimes with black or an off-black trim).

But what if you go red as primary? Hang on: EWU, SUU, maroon doesn't count... and isn't that about it? Heck, there's more blue and gold in the Big Sky. Half the old Big 12 was red (or close enough) anyway, why worry?

Or... another thing you probably didn't notice. The alternate Timbers kit is red and black. The crest on those kits is, BTW, also red and black. The alternate has been called "Rose City Red" since the first MLS season. BTW... rumor is that this changes next season as, per silly MLS rules, a new alternate has to be done every 2-3 years (I forget the cycle, it is silly stuff). There's been rumors of gold, possibly the old gold secondary color of the original Timbers.

SO... while I'd highly advise against green and red in the same combination, there's nothing saying PSU can't alternate, so to speak. If Oregon can run riot with a new fashion show every half, maybe take another tack and find meaningful reasons why green is worn one day and red another. Just keep the clashing to an absolute minimum. May as well wear red on the road against those silly gray things recently seen in Bozeman and Greeley.

For me, regardless of color, you put "Alaska" across the front, that represents, well, Alaska. I understand it is an advertising thing, but I've never understood the connection to being a Portland team with Alaska across the front. That really represents the city well, don't you think.

Yep, I cheer that one team that has "Alaska" on it.

Red (rose, scarlet, cherry, ruby, whatever) socks to compliment our uniforms of school color. Almost a handkerchief to a three piece suit, if you will.

The Rose: Portland State's connection to the City of Roses
Fill the Portland campus with beautiful roses so PSU campus expresses Portlanders' love for the Rose City.

The city and the campus share the same name; it is time to also share the same symbol of endearment.
What you suggest is not a bad idea: The Rose serving as a complementary color of sorts.
It is high time to give the Rose her due at the public University for the City of Roses.
Let us make the connection.
(There are combinations of hues of red and green that do go together well and work, usually the darker hues)
