This is considered a non conference game. Kind of feel bad for Sac St fans, having to suffer through a season with Jody Sears as head coach. They got thumped today by a Cal team that won one game last season (although they appear to be better this season). I think we win this game by 10 or 14.

It will be a fun game to watch, I really don't envy Sac for having Sears as thier coach, but we will see what happens, if our defense plays like they did today, we can win. Offense needs to move the ball a little bit better, but that was one of the best FCS defenses I have ever seen NDSU is SOLID.

I'd like to feel bad for Sac but I'm not done feeling bad for Weber yet. We gotta get that first W, and not just one. I agree the O needs to step it up but Sac's D will not be anywhere near as stifling as NDSU or ASU for that matter. I think we start to see some growth with the O at this point. The D has been surprisingly solid against two top-?30 teams. I've probably got higher hopes than I should. With zero wins, I'm already satisfied with how well Hill has turned things around, the rest is gravy.

:+1:

In just 2 games we are worlds apart better than we were last year

NDSU is behind us. There isn't a team on the schedule who the Cats can't beat. Biggest issue the next few weeks is travel fatigue. I hope the guys can overcome the back to back to back road games and come home with a few Ws. Can't believe we don't have another home game till Oct 11.

Now onto Sac! Jody Sears team. I really don't know what to expect from the Hornets. They played a transitioning DII team Week I and got thumped by a rejuvenated Cal team on Saturday. What can we expect this Saturday. Last season, at home, HOMECOMING, Weber got stomped by the Hornets. A little pay back? I heard that Weber lost a couple of starters in the NDSU game on Saturday. How bad are their injuries? Will this affect the Cats divisively? I'm hoping to see a win by the guys in Purple and White. We will just have to wait and see. I think Weber gets their offense rolling and the defense continues to play well.

I say Weber 35 Sac 17

Weber State 31 Sac State 20.

If we can't beat Jody Sears then there's no hope at all for this season.

There is a HUGE difference between Jody's situation at Weber and Jody's current situation @ Sac that being John L ShIT didn't go to Sac and kick off half of their best players before Jody took over. :twocents:
Jody isn't a bad coach but he didn't have a snowballs chance in hell to be successful at Weber.
That being said I am taking Weber by 14+
GO WILDCATS!!!

Have to respectfully disagree. Jody Sears is a bad HC. Yeah, the teams he had at Weber weren't the most talented, but they were horribly coached as well.

Nothing in game notes about the injuries to Wilcox and Smith. And haven't heard anything anywhere else. Anyone know if they will play in this game?

Watching Smith on the sideline after he was injured, I have the feeling he won't be playing this weekend. Hoping it was just a dislocated shoulder and not something worse like a broken collarbone
I talked to Zach after the game and he told me it was dislocated. I don't know if he will play this week or not.

I talked to one of the coaches yesterday and he told me ZAch will be fine to play. He said it got jammed up pretty good, but nothing too serious. No breaks, tears or anything like that. I suspect if he really did dislocate it, the team is trying to hide that knowledge from other teams. That way they still have to prep and assume he is good to go. However, this coach seemed sincere in telling me that he is fine and his shoulder just got slammed up inside. :twocents:

I thought I saw AJ back in the game after coming out for a few series?

1) I like Weber by 7-10 but I'm thinking the offense not be scoring big numbers. I'm thinking more on the defensive battle side of things-- lower scoring, Weber by 7-10.

2) Sears is not a good coach. I didn't dislike Sears as a person and it seemed there were some coaching skills he did have but in no way looked or sounded like a legit FB coach. He was tossed into a bad situation but that still doesn't change the fact that his coaching skills are subpar.

3) Those two injuries really bummed me out, I was especially excited to watch Smith after the ASU performance. I hope both are not too serious. I don't want them back before they are healthy but I do hope it's soon for both.

4) We are going to look back on this season and be amazed how quickly Hill and Co. Have turned a dreadful program into a respected one.

Hey Wildcats,

Looking forward to a good game Saturday! Hope some of you guys can make it out to the game, weather looks good for a great night of football!
With Safron, Carter and that the other offensive weapons the Hornets have I doubt the Wildcats can hold them to anywhere close to 7 points! The ballot is still out on Coach Sears, the team seems to have rallied around him, so far the results are inconclusive, we hope for the best and that he proves up to the job.
He inherited a team with a lot of returning talent and the softest schedule the Hornets have had in the last 10-15 seasons. Most fans expect 7-8 wins from this team, anything less than that or if they stumble in the next three games a search for his replacement needs to start ASAP!
Let’s hope for a well played safe game for both teams!

Go Hornets!

This game is huge for both programs. It's going to be a battle! Billy Green is looking like a true leader and our defense can play. My money is on WEber!!!

I think the final of this game could be around 24-20 ish as for a winner i cant exactly say who will win, The Hornets do have a lot of offensive firepower although I heard Safron was hurt ( Green Laser can you confirm this? ). But I do think our defense can be up to the task (especially if they play the same way they did against NDSU) of stopping the Hornet offense, it's our offense that needs to start getting into that groove and scoring some points, I dont know much about Sac's defense, but I dont think they will be quite like ASU's or NDSU's.

Should be a great "OOC" game Saturday, lets just hope there wont be any injuries for either team in the game and hope for a WILDCAT win.

GO WEBER.

Green Laser, Weber's defense has looked solid against two very good opponents, however, I was saying I thought Weber would win by 7-to-10 points, not that 7-10 would be the score.

Sac should have high expectations from this team. From what I have read, the Hornets have all 11 starters on offense, from last year, back. But the team dynamics have changed a bit. With Spearbeck having to step down and Jody taking the reigns, who knows how that will fully affect the Hornets. From their two games, one can't really tell what type of team the Cats will be facing on Saturday. I think Jody is in a far better situation in Sacramento than what he was put into here in Ogden. John L. destroyed the unity of the Cats team and then jumped ship, which further hurt the Cats. But, one has to wonder, out of all the coaches in Sacramento when Spearbeck resigned, why was the newest one hired to take over the program? Interesting...

Regardless, from what I have seen from the Cats, I feel that Weber is the better team. Our defense has been remarkably better and the offense is markedly improved from last year. Still giving up too many sacks, but Weber has faced two incredible defenses this season, but has been fairly successful moving the ball. I really think that the Cats should come home from Sac with a W. This team is only going to get better. Now time to get some confidence. Get a W.

Jody is still the "interim" head coach if I'm not mistaken. He had the BSC experience and was pretty much the only choice for the position. I'm guessing OC Paul Peterson was also considered.

Sears inherits a very talented roster with 10 or 11 starters returning this season. Yes, Safron does have a shoulder injury and looked very out of sorts against Cal last week. That said, he still threw a TD and ran for a 73 yard score.

I think the Weber wagon is a little ahead of themselves and fully expect a good game, but a Hornet victory. And, you bet Jody Sears is going to savor it...

SAC 38
WSU 28

I think Safron will be good to go Saturday. Last week there was a rumor on our board that he wouldn't play at Cal. He started and looked ok although was wearing some kind of brace/padding on his shoulder. He was blindsided hard early but came back with some nice passes and even took off for a 70+ yard TD run. Garrett has a history of being a very tough and resilient player. I remember last year he cut his hand early against you guys, missed a couple of series getting it stitched up went back in the game and had a great night. If Garrett can't play we have our freshman QB Daniel Kniffin who finished up at Cal going 5-8, and showed a lot of composure and made good decisions on the big stage, I was impressed. It's hard to get a good read how good a team the Hornet's are at this point. Incarnate Word and Cal were on the opposite end of the spectrum!
At IW the Hornets dominated both sides of the ball and the starters were taken out in the 3rd quarter.
The starting defense limited IW to two long FGs. Cal had a obvious speed advantage especially on defense.
Our run defense looked decent, but we were burned badly with passes. Our DBs had the speed to stay with the Cal receivers but had no clue where the ball was. Hopefully that can be cleaned up before Saturday!
This game should provide a good indication of where both teams stack up in the BSC.

Go Hornets!
