@ Sac St, Sept 13

Im glad Weber and Sac scheduled these games, this has become a good series as of late and it's good that it was continued albiet non conference.

Sperbeck resigned in late April after spring ball. There would have been a limited amount of coaches available at that time of the year if a search was conducted. Sears was the only coach on staff with any D1 HC experience. I don’t think there was any other option given the timing of it all. All that said and done, Sears can win the long term gig with a 7+ win season…really can’t see how interim AD Macriss can go in another direction if that’s how the season plays out.

I think this should be a close game with the Hornets edging out the Wildcats. This will be a good indicator of where these teams stand.

If that is the case, you're team will be in a better position long term if you win less than 7 games. I know the wildcats were depleted talent wise the last two years, but they were undisciplined and had very little fight in them. Their offense was anemic (you never want to set the NCAA record for punts in a season), and their defense (Sear's specialty) was pathetic. Most of that was not because of lack of talent. Sears was (and likely is) way in over his head as a HC.

I hear Sacramento is a 6 point favorite, I think the Wildcats can beat that spread.

It will be a tough one though, the Wildcats have only won in Sacramento once since 98 back in 08

We need to improve our Redzone offense, we have only had 4 redzone appearances and are 1-3 in getting it in. We also rank 9th in the Big Sky on third down conversions being only 9-31 for 29 percent. :shocking:

From what I can remember, Sears took over a Wildcat team that had a bunch of starters returning.
QB: Mike Hoke
RB: Josh Booker
WR: Shaydon Kehano
WR: Eric Walker
WR: Lanny Papanikolas
WR: Xavian Johnson
TE: Brian Jankowski
TE: Jordan Clemente
OT: Shelton Robinson
OT: Tytan Timoteo
C: Tyson Tiatia
OG: Austin Butler
OG: Alex Land

He had at least, 9 starters coming back on offense.
On defense he also had a lot of starters back. My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I think he had at least 8 or 9 back.

I can't believe what was wasted by John L. Smith. Mac had assembled such a great team. We were primed to be one of the top programs in 2012. Sears wasn't ready to be a head coach. He shouldn't have been a head coach at Weber. I appreciated his hard work and efforts, but he just isn't a head coach. Hopefully for Sacramento State he took a lot of the lessons learned at Weber and has changed some of his philosophy, but who knows.

Yet, like Sacramento State in 2014, Weber fans can look back and say we had a lot of returning starters and a fairly talented squad coming back in 2012 that just didn't compete. Weber was better and more competitive in 2012 than in 2013 (by a long ways). It only got worse under Sears. I like Jody, but he isn't a very good HC.

Hoke was also a 2nd Team All Big Sky QB in 2011. Lots of similarities. Except Sacs schedule isn't anywhere as tough as Weber's was.

Well Sears doesn’t have to worry about the offense in Sac. Not sure if Weber was able to carry over their OC when JLS bailed, but the offense is something Sears didn’t have to worry about. I assume Sears is in “hands off” mode with the Hornet offense. Sears does inherit an awful defense, which is what he was hired on to deal with as DC anyways. We’ll just have to see how it shakes out, he inherited a stable situation (at least in comparison to his Weber tenure) and if he can’t get it done with this roster and this weak schedule then he has no business as a D1 HC ever again.

He didn't have to at Weber either. Hammer had been Mac's OC for three years when Sears took over. Hammer was still the OC during the first of two years of dysmal Sears football.

Ugh, don't bring up Hammer. It was a great day when he became Weber High's problem, not ours. Has there ever been a less creative OC in WSU history? My wife, of all fans, was able to predict the play call every bit as well as defenses were. Good riddance to JLS, Hammer, and Sears, in that order.

I'm not much into the whole "predicting the score" thingy, but I do really feel that the Cats will be returning home with a W. I don't care who Sac's coach is; Sears or Sperbeck. Weber will win tomorrow's game either way. Weber is an extremely talented and hard playing team. I think we will see the Cats put together a really impressive performance. A performance indicating that the team is really gelling and starting to believe in themselves. Nothing against Sac, but I just don't see them beating the Cats. I think they are good, but I think Weber is better. There isn't a team on our schedule from here on out that the Cats can't beat. NDSU was a far closer game than a lot of people will give Weber credit for and Weber did a fairly decent job of playing a very good ASU team (ASU will be in the top 10 by the end of this season). Those are two indicators that Weber is back on track and playing great football again under Hill and his staff. Great time to be a Cat!!

I'm glad we were able to punch one in there, and stop the bleeding. The red zone offense was beginning to worry me, stemming back to last week against NDSU. :|

I can't get it to work. Frustrating. Like the game itself. Maybe it's a blessing that I can only hear and not see it.
