Sac State

13 missed free throws, one of these games that is really going to come back and bite us.

It is a win though, a road win for that matter and we are still undefeated and hot on Montana's tail.

I guess we don't play again till Saturday? Up in Pocatato. Never easy for us to win up there regardless of how good or bad we are or good or bad the Bungles are. One road game left on this 3 game road swing, lets go 3-0.

GO WILDCATS

Sac made a living from the FT line in the second half. Their play by play guy sure couldn't complain about the officiating. Sac got a lot of the close and questionable calls. I think we had 5 fouls called on us, in the second half, before they had the first one called on them. I haven't seen the stats yet, but a large percentage of their scoring came from the line in the second half.

They have some quality players, but we made them look better than they really are. We need to clean some of that up. :wall:

I don't understand why the officials get a green light on such a terrible performance night after night, pathetic is the nicest way to describe it

I agree the refs were terrible but not in the way you guys are saying....I was there and there were 21 fouls on us and 17 on you guys....you shot 31 fts to our 22.....we can't make them for you olds.....at least 4 walks not called on you, one of which ended up in an and one for Bolomboy....I'm not saying we would have won with better refs but you really have nothing to complain about....watch it again....the calls were equally bad for both teams....BTW...we made 9 fts in both halves olds....hardly the majority of our pts....you guys made 15 fts in the second half....you took 25 fts the second half....who did you say made a high percentage of their pts on fts in the second half???.....do you even watch the game olds????

I was not saying that it was all one sided. Just that your play by play guy had nothing to complain about. There were a lot of traveling calls missed on both ends. There were fouls called on both ends that probably should have been no calls, and there were no calls on both ends that probably were fouls. There just wasn't a lot of consistency. Sac's good FT shooting did keep them in the game, in the second half. Many of Sac's fouls came in the last few minutes, when they were trying to trade two for three. Our own poor FT shooting and turn overs also helped keep it closer than it should have been. Sac did a good job of pressuring us into a lot of that. We need to clean that up.

Hats off to Sac for making it a game. :thumb:

Without Demps, we should have just pressed you guys for 40 mins and see what happens....doesn't seem like you have too good of a plan to break a press consistently and without our distributor and best man defender it was a perfect time to try something out of the box....oh well...congratulations on your win...and BTW...your play by play guy this year is bearable but your old crew was even worst homers than our guy...thank god Dutch is history....amen....

I'll give you Dutch, but Carl Arkey never made comments like the ones I heard today, I can't count how many times your guy said something negative about Bolomboy's possible NBA future. There is being a homer, and there is being a bad homer. and your guy is a bad homer.

It was so bad, 5 minutes hadn't even passed in the game and I had to mute the sound.

It was a good game, hopefully Demps is back for you guys by time you guys visit Ogden, no better way to beat you than when you are at your best :thumb:

I didn't listen to the play by play guy for long, but I did think that it was funny how he was complaining about Weber State fans writing negative comments about him and how he was wearing his "Hail Garrity" shirt at the game.

Seriously?! Sac St had shirts made for a regular season win that brought their team a little closer to .500? So sad.

I've complained about FTs before. We seem so nonchalant about them. Bolomboy seemed a bit agitated tonight. Senglin tried to calm him down several times. Senglin should never have the ball at the end of a game. He is a turnover machine. I wince whenever he puts his head down and heads up the court...

Worst part of the night was when the Sac announcer said something like "this year's tournament is up for anybody to grab. With Demp back we can do a lot of damage, especially since where you are seeded doesn't matter any more."

I'm paraphrasing, but if anything has pointed out what a joke this new format is, that "screw the season it doesn't matter attitude" sure should...

I'm really glad you brought this up. That is the purest reason why the tournament should no longer exist. We are playing in a neutral location where everyone gets invited? Uh?! Pathetic!! So we are having tournament under new regulations because the crap teams of the conference "deserve" another chance and a fair one mind you, to go dancing? Either you win or you don't. We are a one team conference. The best team should represent not the team that gets hot at one destination and then plays in a play-in game and loses badly. Yes, that's what we want to represent to the rest of the NCAA.

If a tournament has to exist, it needs to give the best team the best odds. If that team can't win on its home floor so be it. But to make it "equal" after an entire season has been played is the purest definition of idiocy I've ever been acquainted with. Get rid of the tournament! We should make shirts and start a campaign. I know Sac fans love this. Gives them another chance. I'm sorry Demps is out, but these things happen. It's part of the game. If you can't win when it matters you shouldn't belong. Everyone has 13 scholarships that are regulated by the NCAA and the conference...that's as equal as it should be.

Scrappy game played by the Hornets, this was a lot closer than I expected it to be. Weebs crushed it from 3 and the Hornets didn't, and that was the difference last night. sacstateman nailed it with the refs (and Dutch  ). Plenty of horrid calls both ways, I don't feel the refs had a hand in the outcome. I wish this game was scheduled a week or 2 later so that the students would have been out in full force (still on winter break), it would have been nice to have a little more rowdiness last night.

Good luck until we meet next time Weeb fans. :thumb:

I listened to him for the whole game. I didn't think he was as bad this time around as he has been in the past. He was pro Sac State, but he should be. He pointed out bad calls on both ends. He was silent on some of the things that Sac got away with, but it wasn't that bad. He didn't go an a rant, like he has in the past, about some broad conspiracy against his team.

I didn't always agree with his viewpoint, but I understood where he was coming from and enjoyed what he had to say. :thumb: :thumb:

Most of Sac's fouls were made when you were scrambling to catch up at the end. And at the end we did start making a better percentage. I don't have that much complaint on the refs. They were bad and a little biased towards the home team on some of the calls. But that's to be expected on the Big Sky road.

Travelling? Refs don't even know what that is anymore. There was one drive that Graves took 5 steps, I swear it was 5, it was clearly 4 and nothing but his bucket. Another call when Cannon did the step-hop that is so popular now a days and happened numerous times last night and was called. One thing is they actually called traveling a few times on both teams last night. I found it refreshing as traveling is disappearing just like the three second call. And almost every one of them led to a "what did I do wrong" look from the guilty party.

On the announcer. I didn't mind is California-cool vibe but he should look at the monitor once and awhile to either back up what he says, or correct it. What he does is listen to Katz rant constantly and thinks there is something to the rants. Most times watching last night there's not. It's just the way Katz coaches to be in the refs ears all night. On one particular play Bolomboy let the Sac player go for a layup and he missed it. Bolomboy clearly stepped aside. Katz went nuts, Sac announcer goes nutz and a look at the monitor would tell you there was nothing to call. No contact whatsoever. He's got such a bad angle where he sits he really needs to get the help of the TV angles.

Good game though. Tough place to get a win...

Just for clarification UtahPirate...we committed 4 fouls in the last 3 minutes, 3 fouls in the last 50 secs (during the scramble time you mentioned) and you converted 6 out of 8 attempts....if we take out all 8 attempts, you still shot 17 fts to our 11 in the second half but actually our scramble didn't start with 3 min left because we were still only down 76-70, so the last 6 ft attempts were because of intentional fouling, leaving the real difference at 19 to 11 in ft attempts in the second half which is where olds was stating that we "made a living at the free throw line in the second half".....facts don't show it that way....what I can't understand is why did Richardson only play 10 min for the whole game??? He came out in the second half and made 3 treys in the first minute and a half and only played 7 mins total in the second half!!!! Those are some baffling stats to me....he also had a steal and an assist before Rahe benched him with 13 mins left and he never saw the court again...

Who knows... we've debated what's up with Ryan's playing time. I'm glad he's at least playing, there was a stretch of the season where he never got into the game.

Well Sac there are Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics (hope you know I'm joking)...

You guys had 21 fouls on the game. With 12 minutes to go in the game Cody John made a lazy pass that caused a turnover. We were 17 points up at the time. That was the first time I think you smelled blood with your press and I would claim that was the point where you got serious about it and the scramble began. And it brought you back in the game. You didn't get back to 76-70 and start pressing hard then. The press brought you back. You made 12 fouls in the last 12 minutes when you started pressing harder. The 17 to 11 FTs was just part of taking more risks defensively. Just to clarify my position...

I couldn't understand why we never went to a zone. Graves was getting inside on us and causing problems, and they were not hitting 3's. Seemed like a perfect opportunity to go zone and pack it tight to prevent the dribble drives...

I thought the same thing about us not showing the zone. However, our man D had been quite effective up to the point, at about 7 minutes to go, when Sac started pressing harder on both ends of the floor. We kind of gave them a little hope by missing so many FTs. Their zone press gave us more trouble than their man press. We have, generally, handled presses much better this year and ultimately did not fold to it. We got a lot of layups, dunks, and FTs off of their press. For the whole game, their press forced us into an additional 3 or 4 turn overs. Had they pressed hard, like they did in the last 5 minutes, for the whole game, we probably turn it over a few more times. However, our dunks would have doubled and they would have fouled all of their guards out of the game before the last seven minutes. We probably win by 20+. I think that Katz did it right. If we miss our FTs in the last 5 minutes, they might have had a chance. :coffee:

I agree. Graves got 3 quick fouls on Cannon to start the 2nd half when he started making plays to the hoop. I like Graves a lot, wish he would be that aggressive on the offensive side more often.

Does this community ever have anything positive to say about officiating? There was an NBA official on the court for that game so I trust that crew. Only thing I will say is that I thought the consistency of calling traveling was strange. Thought that Katz should've gotten a Technical Foul also, he was all over the refs from the jump. The difference in the ball game was the three point line.

So you don't understand the complaining about the refs and yet the rest of your post is nothing but complaints about the refs.....

Welcome to the forum Matt.

I've said some bad things about BSC officiating in the past, and there has been a lot said by others. However, I have also pointed out when they have been good. Unfortunately, most of the good officiating I have seen has been in non conference games. We have a unique situation in the BSC. We refuse to join the rest of the country with regard to officiating and playing the game of basketball. It is mostly the fault of the BSC, and not the fault of the officials themselves. There is extremely poor administration of officials within the BSC. If any of our officials were to call a good game, they would probably be banned from doing BSC games. That is how poor the administration is. :twocents:
