That's encouraging.

He played a solid role as strong LB against Wisconsin. Several tackles and even knocking Stocco silly on one shot. Our D did a hell of a job overall in Madison (too bad the O got off the bus in Columbus...) holding them scoreless in the 1st half (we have a tradition of winning halves...)(long inside story)

There was another team you guys played real close a few years back? Was it Ohio State?
OSU in Columbus in 05 (27-6 but closer than the score) and Michigan in Ann Arbor in 04 (SDSU led at the half and late in the 3rd quarter but lost 24-21) were both close and the teams received a lot of praise for their performance.

Oh yeah, losing 16-13 to number 2 (at that time) OSU in Columbus in '03.

Of course that level of play didn't continue as the seasons continued and our HC lost his job deservedly.

I've followed SDSU for sometime. Had a friend who played center there in 84. Never understood how they weren't able to capitalize on the LA recruits much like Fresno has of past years. SDSU does get some rb gems of course. What's the feeling for Long thus far?

It is all over the page to be honest. Some think he is in way over his head. Some say the jury is out and had to deal with another coaches players and institute a new system. There are questions about some of his coaches starting with a nepotistic hiring of a son of a talent scout (Special Teams). He has had a few defections, starting with Schantz.

I like how he has adjusted to some situations but the school is out. He seems to be on top of the issues, his recruiting of foundation players rather than skill positions is needed and mature.

The only real answer will be told by the end of the OOC games.

Coach Long is building it from ground up. Who knows if he will be successful.

I do know this....He is trying something at San Diego State that hasn't been tried in 30 years. No quick fix.....Looking for tougher players.....Demanding respect from players......Weeding out the malcontents.

If they give him time I think he will get it done, but Aztec fans are very impatient. They want the quick turnaround and that just doesn't happen real easily.

ell then patience must be required, I know it took Schiano forever to get Rutgers program up to par, they were the worst team in America at one point, they gave him time and now look at them, Hopefully SDSU can give him time.

For a dodger fan, he is right on this one!

We have debated the Rutgers revival and there are a few of us that see that as a model. We'll have to see how patient our fans and administration are

78 - we both know the fans are going to be impatient; the question is will the administration have the stones to ride out these next 2 years, which I believe are going to be rocky ones. I believe Long is on the right track with this last recruiting class, but it's going to be a slow painful process in 07 and 08. By 09, I hope to see the program begin to make the turn for respectability.
