Schedule released

To All,
Attended first practice today, very cold for this old Bod. ;) ;) ;) Sorry I don't have much to talk about. Remember Andrew Pulu? Well he is now one of the Coaches for the Defense. He is on an Internship with us, the Internship Coach from WSU is no longer with us. There about 4 Walk-ons, names I am not sure, stayed in my Truck and observed the Practice, damn cold outside :( :( :( . Had some High School Students checking us out, they graduate next June. Go Eagles!!!!!. Vic E. Wallace

Vic;
It sounds like you still have Jamacian blood flowing in those veins.

clawman,
You are so right, actually it is Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands Blood in these Veins. :) :) :). Anyway some of the Players came over to my truck and spoke, they stated even if they were not in PADS, they felt all went well. All our injured Players are now back, but are taking it kind of slow, to be ready when the Season really get going. Got my two Tickets for April 28th, Lobster and Prime Ribs after the Scrimmage on that day. Hope to see many of you there. Starts about 4:30p.m. go until about 11:p.m. Main meal is
about 6 p.m. in Reece Court, then the drunks try to dance. :) :) :) :) :) Go Eagles!!!!! Vic E. Wallace

The funny thing is that one of the out of conference games is a pseudo-non con against NAU. Basically, there's 9 conference games this year. Our previous AD could only manage one non-conference opponent, and it was a money game against a team from down the highway. In other words, Chaves didn't cultivate a single relationship out of conference that could provide a game. That is really pathetic.

The new AD walked into a bit of a scheduling shitstorm... One that was many years in the making. But she took the job, so it's on her now to get it solved. I think most fans would give her a pass on just about any home game, regardless of who comes to town. Just get it done.

That's speculation and I think the university has done a fine enough job already of throwing Chaves under the bus.

There is WAY more scheduling going on between the MFVC and BSC these days so we have competition for non-cons. Same with the Southland and if you're ACU you'd rather face UNC than Eastern as echoed in the article about scheduling challenges.

We still don't have the gate to dial up a SWAC and entice them here.

It was tough for Chaves but not through a lack of effort. It will be tough on the next AD as well.

I agree, schedule a DII for 9/1 if you can't arrange the early opener and get it done.

Ok... I'm running searches just for fun on which teams have open dates and when they have them. Sept 1 is a tough one, as other teams managed to do their schedules on time and have games.

I'll keep a running list of teams with open dates on 9/1

First one I've found... Wayland Baptist, NAIA from Texas
Concordia University, NAIA from Nebraska
Cal Lutheran, D3 from California
Howard Payne University, D3 from Texas (we played them once back in the 80s)
Lewis and Clark College, D3 in Oregon (in our damn backyard!)
Pacific Lutheran, D3 from Washington (hello!)
WOW I'm surprised there are any teams that have an opening that date. Problem may now be we have a President who is not too supportive of athletics and an interium AD who is kissing a$& trying to get the job so she is not going to take any risk of a $$ losing weekend. Fans are held hostage.

Pretty pathetic, honestly. At this point, just pay Whitworth to come to Cheney and be done with it. With 5 months to go, the schedule just needs to be completed. We can't have only four home games. That's absurd. Interesting fact, as of now, we don't have a single non-conference home game on the schedule until 2020.

It just boggles my mind how piss poor a job we’ve done at scheduling. 10 games is a joke, zero non conf home games this year is a joke and like you said we have zero so far next year too and I believe that’s a 12 game year...
Oh, Ya but that AD sure was great

Regardless of anything good he did you would not recognize that.

Look at Northern Colorado’s all FCS schedule. How did crappy UNC get a home game with FCS McNeese St. & Eastern can’t get an 11th game?

9.8. @South Dakota
9.15. Sac State
9.22. @Weber State
9.29. North Dakota
10.6. UC Davis
10.13. @Portland State
10.20. Northern Arizona
10.27. @Southern Utah
11.3. Eastern Washington
11.10. @Montana State

Jim Allen said that we were close to getting an eleventh game scheduled, but then things fell apart at the last second. Apparently this has happened multiple times this year.

clawman,
At practice yesterday, spoke to two individuals who is in the know, they stated they spoke to both Whitworth, and Central, they didn't want to play us, they even offered money as usual, no luck. They stated they haven't given up. In case you haven't heard, we lost our Strength Coach Imair, to WSU more money., Asst. Coach is still here, he is working very well with the Team. We have about 9 Walk-Ons. It is nice seeing all those Injured Players returning, they should all be ready after April. They comes out do their exercises, then into the Gym, lift weights, then return to the Field. For the ones asking of Nick Moore 3rd String QB, he transferred to Oregon State, where is brother attended. Conor McKenna transferred to Carrol College. Have a great Weekend. No more practice until Tuesday. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic E. Wallace

Dang no central and whitworth turned up its nose at us?? Not a good sign. How many FBS team have open dates for our late bye week?

It's a home and home. The SLC plays a 9-game conference schedule so some year's, including 2018, they are guaranteed 5 home games in conference and can afford to travel if they choose. This season, they play OOC games at UNC and BYU. The return for UNC is 2020 so I'm guessing they accepted this series because 1) they already had 5 home games this year, 2) can reward their fan base with 6 home games in 2020, and 3) @UNC is very winnable. The 3rd reason is important for a solid SLC program as the bottom half of the conference drags their SoS down so much and a road win against a middle of the pack BSC team helps the resume.

The more interesting question is how can UNC afford to not schedule a money game this season?

The reason is important for a BSC program as playing an FBS team at the bottom half of their conference drags down fan interest so much and a home win against a middle of the pack SLC team helps FCS, Big Sky & Bear fans.

Central and Whitworth didn't have a choice in the matter, they are both already booked for the first weekend.

The question is how on Earth Eastern got to this point? How can there have been a void in the schedule left unaddressed for so long? The situation grows dire when you get within a year, let alone when It's only four and half months away. This should have been rectified a year ago.

I found one D2 school with a 9/1 opening, American International from Massachusetts.

Interesting factoid, up until a month ago two other D2 schools had open dates on 9/1. One was a West Coast school in Humboldt State. They signed a road date at Midwestern State a few weeks back. St Augustine's College in North Carolina was another, but they signed to play at Jacksonville U.

Thanks for the research, Dopa.

At this point there can't be many teams at any level remaining who need to fill a last game.

I bet we could find an naia school to buy out of a game and come play us, wouldn’t cost that much either...

I’d rather only play 10 games than put another fbs on the schedule so hopefully we Don’t go that route

Hopefully our AD is also working on our 2019 schedule as we have two open slots still to fill and both need to be home games...
