I was interested to see how SEMO responds when they down. So I looked at their drives in the SIU game earlier this year. In the 3rd quarter, against #5 in the FCS (at the time), SEMO was behind 21-3. So how did they respond?
They ran. And ran. And ran...
They had 22 plays before they iced the game (because they won the game 24-21), and of those 22 they ran on 17 of them.
How did they do?
minus to 2 yards: 7
3 to 10 yards: 5
11 to 20 yards: 3
21+ yards: 1 (for 67 yards, the game winner)
TOTALS: 16/144 yards
Avg of 8.47 ypc
Just for interests' sake, here's how the passes went:
0-10 yards: 1
11-20 yards: 2
21 yards+: 1 (for 39, that put them into scoring position on their first third qtr. scoring drive)
TOTALS: 5/78 yards
Avg of 15.6 yards ypc
They passed 5 times. That's it. This team doesn't pass. Even from behind. They run from all sets, with 2 big bruisers and the strong and shifty Henry Harris.
Interesting eh?
