Credit where it's due...despite not having any history with Eastern, our two finalists seem to have a great grasp of what is required. I like what I'm hearing so far.
How different is their responses than 99.9% of other colleges in US?
Raise money
build facilities
win our conference

Well, throw Chaves into the equation... He was a great administrator and I think was generally well respected by the coaches. But he was very hands-off on fundraising, and after the Gateway Project fell flat, seemed to want to dance around facilities questions. One of these two will have big shoes to fill on the administrative side, but if they can get the money situation right- especially if they have the ear of the President- it would stand to help the athletics department out in a huge way.

Ha. On here two days but opinions for last several years.

Ya right

The number of posts a fan has made on a lightly used forum should not preclude him or her from expressing their opinion. I welcome the perspective and encourage others to share theirs. Be cool, man.

I question the authenticity of the poster. I agree with you as far as sharing opinion but do not politicizing a topic here.

Decision will be announced at 11am tomorrow at Reese Court. Sounds like you'll be able to watch it online as well.

Interesting. I’ve got to think that Hickey’s the frontrunner at this point. I just don’t see her coming in as the interim unless she was promised that she would be the clear favorite to get the permanent position.

Just looked at Vince Otoupal twitter and it says that the school he is at is going through a presidential search...don't blame him for looking as we all know what happens when a new boss comes in..they want their own people there.

Sounds like the football staff is pleased with the job Hickey has done as an interim. I was pleased with the fact she had a clear direction and had the balls (or ovaries, if you will) to clearly state that the AD is under budgeted to the tune of $4-5mm. Eastern cannot continue to hope to be a championship level athletic department with third world funding levels.

Hickey it is!

Excellent choice. I think we got someone real good to come in and keep the ship going. The future looks bright.

The more I hear about her, the more I like the choice. Glad to have her aboard!

I am super excited and think she is gonna be great. I was so pleased to hear our president publicly affirm support for athletics and athletics capital projects. I’m hopefully we’re going to see progress soon!!!

I was at presser yesterday, what a show, much different than the last 4 AD announcements I have attended.
The new event room is done on east end of court, very very nice. two offices and large event area.
We had band, cheerleaders, Swoop, even several facility and administration staff. These were never seen at past AD announcements, best attendance ever 100+. I talked to coaches and they are very happy with this choice.
Get your wallets out they are coming!

I'll be the first to admit I was starting to hit the panic button with Chaves leaving right after Beau & Hayford. So far I have been very impressed by what I've read about her as well as our new President.

I was very concerned EWU was going to start cutting even more funding in the Athletic Dept but it appears just the opposite in the long-term strategy with the emphasis on donations. IMHO, this is the only way EWU will stay relevant in Football and Men's Bball.

Living in the Seattle area, I'm not able to make many of these events so I'm limited to what's posted here and Jim Allen's coverage in the Spokesman.

I would like to see alumni/fundraising events in Seattle as well as Portland as I'm willing to bet the avg income of alums is higher than ones in the 509.

Agreed. Huge investments on the way by administration. This is great. Really like the idea of fundraising trips to Seattle and Portland. Those would be very successful. I can see these happening. Cullinan is spending half her time fundraising now. Love the direction.

I like the optimism, but when it comes to big investments... I have a "believe it when I see it" attitude. I've seen three press releases about Woodward / Roos Field expansion over the last 20 years only for nothing to ever happen. Anyone who can pick up that ball and run with it is a hero in my book.

Hey, while we're going big..let's go really really really big!

1987, I might have missed it but what are we paying CWU to hop on a bus for the 160 miles then hop back on for the 160 mile return trip? Cullinan, President of EWU since 8/2014, now all-in on athletics after just 45 months on the job? sweet

Not sure exact amount but heard it was “healthy”. Not fair to Cullinan. She is going to do great and has said as much. I believe her.
Gate will cover the cost, there will be good attendance, plus a great crowd from CWU. We should play them every 2 to 3 years, No different than us going to the U or WSU.
