I guess the real questions are: who would we fans like to see hired? and who is the AD likely to hire?

The idea broached by others of hiring from within will depend to a great degree on who is named as interim (surely we can do better there than Bethune-Cookman did when they blew out the entire staff without naming an interim to supervise the players and declared that there would be no further word until a new HC was announced) and who Taylor chooses to take with him. There are many outsiders available as well.

My top five (who may or may not have anything to do with the final list:

1. Mike Canales, lately OC at Bethune-Cookman, produced Phillip Rivers while at NC State
2. Bruce Pielstick (most of you know who he is)
3. John Fassel, Special Teams Coordinator, Dallas Cowboys (yes, he DOES have college head coaching experience)
4. Angus McClure, new OL Coach at Nevada
5. Bobby Fresques, QB Coach at Sac State

Let's have a COLLEGIAL discussion, please....

I will bet you any sum of money you want that none of those five people will be even interviewed for the position. As usual, you are off in left field trying to play QB.

Really? After all these years these are the only people you got?
Absolutely, no focking way to any of these you listed.
Surprised Pop Warner or Amos Alonzo Stagg aren't listed.

We'll see who on this staff Taylor takes with him, but there is little reason to look outside of this current staff for Taylor's successor. Promoting from within will maintain some continuity with this championship caliber program and salvage the recruiting class. Immediately looking outside of this staff, unless the top candidates are leaving with Taylor, is essentially throwing away everything that was built in the last 4 years.

My speculation is that the two most qualified candidates on this staff is Richardson and Thompson. I think either of them would be successful here. Regardless, Nelsen and Orr have proven their skills in making head coaching hires so I'm not concerned about how this will be handled.

I think a key to this is that we get Nelsen to hire this position before he retires. This will be the main focus he'll have and could set his legacy to be at even higher levels for the athletic department than what it currently is.

Outside of the internal candidates, I have a couple to throw out that I hope show some interest.

Brennan Marion - Passing Game Coordinator - Texas Played at Foothill and De Anza - coached HS ball at Saint Patrick Saint Vincent at one point. Has done well at every spot - and has a lot of creativity in his offensive play calling - being a spread option guy

Brandon Hayashi - Head Coach - Citrus College. Played at Montana State - young coach who turned around Citrus and led them to an undefeated campaign this year.

So I was scrolling through Twitter and saw where Andy Fiske, Senior Associate AD had posted all of this info about what Sac State Football accomplished and he tagged Prez Nelson, Mark Orr, and the ONLY coach tagged was Bobby Fresques. Why?

FWIW it doesn't look like Thompson or Richardson are very active on Twitter. That said I don't think not getting tagged on a tweet is an indication of anything notable. :twocents:

How rare is this???

Thompson, Richardson, and Fresques are all interviewing for the HC gig, they all say even if they don’t get it, they want to stay to finish what they started.

Great to hear they are wasting no time. A vacancy this close to signing day can kill an entire recruiting class.

Sounds like a hire is imminent, and it will be one of the internal candidates - Richardson, Thompson or Fresques.

Feels like Nelsen and Orr know they need to stop the bleeding ASAP to avoid too much roster turnover through the portal and losing recruits….

If Orr/Nelson are going to hire from within there's no reason they can't announce to today unless SDHornet and the Buckeye Welcher haven't made their minds up yet.

Save a GA (grumpy a-hole) role for me on staff!

They told the team yesterday that they were going to hire from within and the announcement would be today. Not sure what they didn't make it official this morning.

Maybe out of respect for Mike Leach?

A poster on Stanford’s message Board said they have information that Andy Thompson is going to be the new HC, announced today.

If this is true, I’d say Fresques to OC, Richardson probably to Stanford staff. Not sure where since they just picked up Klayton Adams for OL.

Hope Richardson stays, he created some awesome lines. He was highly successful, 163-27, as HC at Folsom. Not sure the passing of Mike Leach has anything to do with an announcement.

You are wondering why the bureaucratic tumor that is Kalifornia government cant turn around a HR hire in six hours?
They gotta confirm everyone has had their six china virus boosters in place.

Me too, I was hoping he would be the head coach, seemed like a logical transition. I like Andy and hope he stays, but felt Kris was the better choice. Since Taylor took over, our offense was what we were known for, with a good supporting defense. Kris has been with Troy for many years and I’m sure he picked up a lot of offensive strategies from him.
