Sears to Remain Head Coach

Wsufan, I hear ya brother I don't blame Bovee and I realize that lucifer smith had a lot to do with the defunctness of our program, but unlike you, I'd much rather see a 5-6 season where the Cats have a chance to win every game other than a 2-10 season where we are shocked when we do win. That SFA win was SHOCKING. In 2011, we the fans were shocked when we lost certain games. Now, we really don't have any hope of winning. If the game is close this weekend, we will all be SHOCKED. I don't like that. I like feeling like the Cats have a chance. It has been a really long time, since Weber was THIS bad. Even the 2004 team had a lot of close loses. This year, NONE of our loses have been remotely close. I like what Sadkitty asks, is this the type of football/program you like? Are you really a fan or a sadists?

Notice what Grizz fans are saying about our program? Below is a direct quote from the article:

"in case anyone is wondering, Weber State is still the most awful thing on the planet."

This is the part of the article that describes our Cats:

Poor Weber State. These fellas just can’t catch a break this year. Hosting a game who had the same number of wins as they did and got housed by a slightly more talented Hornets team. The Wildcats still haven’t settled on a quarterback as they played a couple of different ones in this one. Bo Bolen is still running hard, going for 66 yards. Hornet receiver DeAndre Carter had a nice day for the Hornets catching 8 passes for 148 and 3 touchdowns. Quarterback Garrett Safron (not Efron) was efficient only missing on seven passes, however, had two picks. The Hornets roll 31-3 over Weber. The Hornets will host Northern Colorado next week. Weber State will wish they didn’t play football next week as they head up to Cheney to take on Eastern Washington. Is another 70 spot on the horizon?

Two years ago, even last year, nobody in the conference was saying these types of things about our Cats. Is this the program we want? To bad, it is the program we have. :ohno:

Ouch, that is just sad, but true. Normally, reading something like that would have me jumping up-and-down, fuming mad, and planning my retort but what can you say? What can I say? I guess I've got about as much fight in me right now as the football team does. :ohno:

Under coach Sears, we have gotten our first ever loss to Northern Colorado (at home to boot) and our first ever loss AT HOME to Sac State. If we lose AT HOME to Idaho State this year, I guarantee Sears can kiss his job goodbye.

Hate to say it, but Im not impressed, I havent seen any improvement from last year.

I will be upfront and tell you I am not a long time Weber State guy. I do have what I would call some inside perspective. Weber is recruiting my son so I have been around the coaches and players on several occasions. I have also watched them play a couple games, one live and one on the internet. I am a long time HS Head coach so I feel I have some knowledge to base my opinions.

1. The coaches have been professional, personable, and honest.

2. Coach Sears was put in a very tough spot with the John L. situation. To his credit he has not once used that as an excuse.

3. This staff has been able to recruit ONE recruiting class. I know Boosters/fans have lost any sort of patience now days, but one class?

4. Take a look at how many underclassmen are currently playing in one of the toughest conferences in the country.

5. Talking to some of the academic staff at Weber they were very impressed with what Coach Sears and staff are doing on the academic side. I know it is W & L's that get most fired up, but this should be considered important. It is for us as parents.

6. My son and I have talked to several current players on our own (not set-up by coaches) and they speak very highly of Coach Sears and the rest of the staff. Have also talk to several parents of current players and they have had nothing, but good things to say about the direction of the program.

7. If you do not want them to bring in a bunch of JC players (usually some issues that come with them) then it is reasonable to give a staff at least 3 recruiting classes before you can really judge them.

Thank you for your comments. I for one feel a bit ashamed for my actions lately. I appreciate how you have put things into a better/greater perspective. We should be more aware of what the kids are experiencing and gaining from playing football.

We do not expect you to screen every poster to determine if they're a recruit or not. However, we ask that if someone does identify him/herself as a recruit or a family member of a recruit, you do not communicate with that person.

Guys, just a reminder that we can't communicate with anyone (above) being recruited or family members of a recruit by WSU, it could be a ncaa recruiting violation. :bad: albeit a dumb one...

 Putting those two teams on a slippery, snow packed field would be pure comedy. They would defiantly have to blast some Yackety Sax over the PA system.

Just speaking generally, I hope VRPIA comes back with new handle and doesn't explicitly identify himself.(hint) He has some valid insight and we can gain from his perspective.

Thanks for posting the reminder. Stay compliant, my friends.

Sorry, I did not know that rule. Please do not reply/comment on this post either. I will keep reading this blog and hope everyone can step back and try and take in the big picture. Most importantly if you consider yourself a Weber State supporter a lot more gets done by building some positive energy and support. IMHO

I'm with you all the way Vrpia. I have been a fan since age 10 when my dad started taking me. Our family comes...rain or shine...snow or earthquake and we stay til the final whistle blows. If we want to players to give all they have for a full game, I feel it is only fair that they receive the same in return. Besides, it's a lot more fun to come early, tailgate then hang with friends and family out with friends til the traffic thins out.
AND...let's not forget the victory DEW and pizza @ The Pie!!!! {well, we get a few more victory DEWS after Basketball games...LOL) Suffice it to say, game day should be an adventure each and every time.
