Season Finale - vs. Idaho State

The Bengals (2-8 / 1-6 BSC) visit the friendly confines in Ogden to try for win # 2 in BSC action; meanwhile the Weber State Wildcats (5-5 / 4-3 BSC) have a good chance to finish this season with a winning record @ 6-5 (my prediction) & 5-3...definitely PROGESS from a year ago---who would've thought 5/6 conf. wins!! :thumb:

(SUU remains alone in BSC 1st place @ 6-1, trailed by 4 teams @ 5-2 tied for 2nd place, a fitting finale for the would've/should've/could've Big Sky Conference football season). :)

I am not the QB Clark's dad, in fact I am not a fan of Clark being the QB for the Cats, however if you look at the lack of support he has gotten from the WR's this season he could of doubled his TD pass ratio if the WR's would of not dropped so many regular passes or in the Endzone this season. The TE play with the ball has not been much better. TE's either catch or drop the ball and then they go down immediately, not much athletic ability after catching the ball based on their average yards per catch. The final drive during the last two plays of the game against Eastern Washington for the would be win, ended in two drops in a row by the WR's of the Cats and the game was over. The stats also show that the Cats have absolutely no vertical game. Usually a team is willing to give up the vertical game for more reliable possession WR's, however based on the amount of drops, the CATS have neither vertical or consistent possession WR's. Hopefully changes will be made in the offseason however I doubt it because nothing seemed to change game to game during 2015. The stats for the season show that with some of the WR's have up to a 50% that they are going to drop the ball if it is passed to them. Not a great proposal for success. Thus the lack of 1st downs and success in the Redzone. No need to send me alerts that I am a hater, just going by the stats for the season. A drop represents when a WR drops a ball that makes contact with both of their hands on a catchable ball. Lots of opportunity for improvement for the Cats for next season at the WR position. If the WR's play up to par they could easily obtain their goal of a 8 plus win season for 2016. So Yes that would be considered a very positive comment.

Listed below are the cum stats for the receivers of the WSU for 2015. Based on the current season total of 47 drops for the season and the team drops on average 4.7 drops per game the Cats should be able to break 50 drops for the season. NFL tracks attempts to the receiver unfortunately College doesn't. The stats show the Cats have no deep game based on the average yards per catch. Unfortunately, WSU doesn't track YAC's either, (Yards after the catch) FYI..Clark the QB has the highest average per catch at 26 yards for the one trick plays that they ran this season.

Cam-4 drops for the season 2 in the Endzone= Most reliable WR for the cats at 1 drop per 10.5 passes
Derby-4 drops, 2 in the Endzone= 1 drop per 7.5 passes
Drew-3 drops, 2 in the Endzone= 1 drop per 8.3 passes
Prince-3 drops, 2 in the Endzone=1 drop per 3.7 passes===unacceptable
Corpus 1 drop, 0 in the Endzone=1 drop per 4 passes==Hasn't played WR in 5 or 6 games, drop against OSU
Stribling-4 drops, 2 in the Endzone=1 drop per 2 passes===unacceptable

You were only being called out when you were talking about different ways to execute people... I thought your post was very informative and shows a issue that Hill needs to address in the off-season.

While I am certainly not a fan of our wide receiver play. I think the failures in the passing attack (Can we call it an "attack"?) are primarily the responsibilities of Clark (the bad OC) and Clark (the linebacker playing QB).

Many "drops" are the result of horrible passes that are high, wide, behind, lacking touch etc. I would hate to be a receiver and try to adjust to his inconsistent throws.

Same with YAC, if they somehow manage to catch a pass, it is seldom in stride.

Secondarily, if you know you have Clark for a QB, adjust your damn game plan or find a better QB. Play calling has been miserable for most of the season. Kid can't even put touch on a screen pass.

I agree, WSUWildcat, that play call has not been very good much of the season and the receivers jobs have been more difficult because many passes have been "high, wide, behind, lacking touch." I have also seen several passes dropped that simply should not have been. There is certainly room for improvement all around, but I think if there is better play call, better/more diverse routes run, and better accuracy/touch on the throws, that receiving problems improve significantly. BTW, I believe both Steve & Jadrian are "Clark"s.

You are correct. Not sure where the "e" came from for Coach Clark. If I were to buy him a vowel, it would be an O not an E. Fixed the post.

Lets all be honest here, the reason why the receivers have dropped balls that hit them squarely in the hands is because they are shocked that the ball hit them in the hands. Usually they have to do something extra human to catch one of Jadrian's throws.

Like I said earlier, I am not a fan of Clark or Clark. And if Clark was a real OC, Clark would not be the QB, And Yes I would execute both if I was Hill. Yes, we can joke that the WR's are shocked and that's why they are dropping passes that are hitting them squarely in the hands like it's not an issue........however when WR's are dropping 25-50% of the passes that are being thrown to them as it bounces off their chest or both hands, the madness needs to be called out and the WR's need to step up or get out. Clark was the weakness of the offense at the beginning of the season but went from horrible to acceptable, not good, not great! The WR play this season went from bad to worse as the season progressed.

Our top WR Cam has 2 TD's for the season. Most teams top WR's have 1 or 2 a game! And the list of WR's performances after Cam drop very low after him.

Figure the average WR get's 40-50 plays a game x 10 games and you are talking over 500 offensive plays for the season and we have WR's with little or absolutely nothing to show for it.

Ha!! This place is seriously busy. So many posters posting about the upcoming game with Idaho State. Guess there must be a lot of excitement. I'm excited to watch football one more time this season. For the most part (sans the constant redzone issues, Clark as QB, and the WR's dropping balls), I've really enjoyed watching this team. Most of us didn't think Weber would be much better than possibly 4 wins and here we are 5-5 and playing to have a winning season. I like knowing that Weber can, with a win, can have as many wins this season as they have had the past three. To me, that is definitely something to drink a beer over.

I'm excited for this last one too, and disappointed the season is ending. Although there have been plenty of frustrations, they have indeed overachieved this season (especially with a win Saturday)-- so much so that I think they should have had 3 more wins against teams I didn't think they had a chance against going into it and a playoff invite. I'd much rather watch this team keep taking steps forward that the same ol', same ol' on the basketball court. Gonna be there vs the potatoes and get a last fix for the long off season.

42 degrees and partly cloudy on Saturday. Perfect football weather for the final game of the season with a winning season in the balance, huge game. Unfortunately Utah Byu and Utah state all play at the same time so I am assuming small crowd for Saturday. Wish they moved the game to be under the lights

Game Day !!! Wildcats need to end this interesting football season on a positive note AND A WINNING SEASON RECORD !! Tame the Bengals & their HC who disses any real rivalry between ISU & WSU (his Montana background memories of glory). :coffee:

Here's hoping the Wildcat players remember Kramer admitting last year to running the score up on Weber up in Pokeafellow. These Wildcats better be mad and ready to return this rivalry to its normal ways.

GO WEBER

Here we go, smash the potatoes! Make the off season a more positive one. I'm already excited and hopeful for good things coming nextseason .

Play call is as awful as ever, so hard to watch knowing what SClark is going to run and also knowing its the wrong call and won't work (e.g. 3rd and 4th and goal from the 1). JClark could have practically fallen over the right hip of his center on 4th. Uggg!

I've said it before and I say it again for the last time. If Weber is going to take the next step next year they have to find a better QB. Clark is not fundamentally sound and it results in overthrows, interceptions etc. Sometimes, when I watch his reads (minimal) I think he must be blind. He just doesn't have top-level QB skills and he has had enough time and experience to have developed them already. He has to go. . Yes, we can win some games with him. But if we want to win the conference and win some games in the playoffs we must significantly improve the QB position.

Some of the worst officiating I've ever seen.

Despite some of the frustrations along the way, pretty solid season for the Wildcats. :clap: I would not have guessed six wins before the season started. Next year could be even better with so many starters coming back. Just hope the QB play doesn't limit what can be accomplished.
