Selection Sunday

We weren’t even in the last two teams out based on what the committee chair just said

I just don’t get it, I sure hope Chavez is watching this, looking at our schedule and future years…

I think the lack of a true “quality win” came back to bite us. We lost to every ranked team we played, we struggled with nearly every other team on our schedule as well. I think NAU got a lot of credit for beating a then #11 Illinois State at home in the beginning of the year. I think this really shows when you look at this tweet. We weren’t even close to getting in.

Surprised, not shocked. Even though we won 7 of our last 9, we didn't have any wins over playoff teams during that stretch. Just goes to show if you leave the decision in the hands of the playoff committee don't be surprised if you're left out in the cold. We didn't take care of business against SUU and Weber. Win just one of those games and we would have been a shoe in.

Sorry, but complete and utter bullshit. We didn't need another quality win. Monmouth, Furman, NAU, and Nichols didn't have any more quality wins. Just one more win would have got us in.

ISUr win is no better than ours against Montana or Sac.

Maybe the story behind it being the NAU's coach's last season. They also put San Diego on a bus to NAU, so I think money could have played into the equation.

Outside the 400 mile bus trip.

I would say ECB, but that doesn't explain how NAU got in over us with a comparable resume.

At the end of the day I think everyone understood that this was going to be a rebuilding year. We started way behind the power curve on the offensive side going back to Spring Ball and Best having to quickly assemble a staff. Having to promote your QB Coach to interim OC didn't help much either as he was just getting his feet under him.

I'm disappointed we didn't get the bid this year, but all in all it was a successful year given all of the turmoil in the off-season. It could have gone a lot worse honestly. I think this team has a lot of upside in the next couple of years and maybe this will serve as a good motivator going into winter conditioning.

This.

NAU beat Illinois at home..quality win.

6-5 ISUr may be slightly better than UM but not by much. Now look at conference uncommon opponents. NAU played 1-10 Poly and 3-7 UNC while we played 9-2 Weber and 4-7 UND. The Cookus ordeal could be an argument but the UM was starting an H-back at WB in that game. We are also ahead in overall SOS. Their ISUr shouldn't be enough to tip that scale.

The teachable moment here is that 7-4 won't get you in. Scheduling 2 very tough out of conference games is a terrible idea. We absolutely need to come into conference play at 2-1. Clearly strength of schedule isn't that important to the committee.

ISUr win is no better than ours against Montana or Sac.

We lose by 18 at SUU, NAU loses by 28 at SUU. We beat Montana by 7 at Home, NAU loses by 2 to Montana at Home. We beat Portland State by 26 at home, they beat Portland State by 22 on the road. We beat Montana State at home by 12, NAU beat Montana State by 1 at home. We beat Sac State by 21 on the road, NAU beats Sac State by 20 at home. We were 4-1 against common opponents (PSU, Sac St,, UM, MSU, and SUU), and NAU was 3-2 with both us losing to SUU. and NAU also losing to Montana. We outscored the same 5 common opponents 228 - 170 (+58) and NAU outscores the same opponents 151 - 138 (+13), yet somehow they are in and we are out. Also consider we won 7 of our last nine so we were streaking in a positive direction while NAU lost 2 of their last 3. Just some things that make you go HMMM.

if so, that is garbage. Also, San Diego getting in is garbage. Does anyone seriously think San Diego is a better team than NAU?

Exactly. On a brighter note we get a jump start on recruiting.
