Sept. 18th Idaho State Gameday Thread

Brian, there's plenty of reasons why its different now than it was back then, but a good number of those reasons are one I won't air in a public forum. Apathy towards the program is one, but it doesn't change the fact that even during hoops season last year--when there was success--the locals didn't turn out. Something about this community that I don't get...

Then, again, I also don't get how State Farm sponsors the crap out of college athletics on radio & TV but won't spend a dime with UNC Athletics or KFKA...

It seems that winning and a very charismatic coach/AD helps. Tad Boyle was able to rally the community around the team, even before we were winning big games. I wonder if someone like Joe Glenn as AD could make a big dent in bridging the gap between the athletic programs and the community.

The basketball team did experience more support and attendance was up. I think this community will support a winning program. It wasn't that long ago that we were averaging above 7,000. I think it was Dalton's last year, oddly enough we weren't that good that year. I think once that first lost hits, people assume and rightly so we won't win another game. It's too much and people lose interest.

I hope I'm wrong with the ISU game. No reason we shouldn't get 6,000. CSU plays away and CU plays at home but I think later in the day. Those two programs are quickly losing interest as well.

Oh well, I'll be there regardless. I'm looking forward to seeing Andre Harris run down the Bengals. He's a man on a mission this year. Been fun to watch him.

You guys are glossing over a key point:

"...it doesn't change the fact that even during hoops season last year--when there was success--the locals didn't turn out."

Dynamic coach, winning games, etc., and yet the audience for a coaches show was practically nil. Winning didn't take care of that.

On a side note, how many of you on here ever have come out for the coaches show? Yet, there's an expectation that there is one...

Well I have been reading all the blogs since the season started and believe there is a lot of lost patience and frustration going on and well earned. The season is early and this Idaho State game will tell a lot. Lets face it, the only cure to all of this is getting on a winning trend. I think we have the talent but not sure about some coaching decisions. And I disagree with our radio man about community support with BB. I am wondering where the students are??? Just win baby!!

Well, the coaches show isn't actually the best "Live" must go to event. Even if I lived in Greeley, that is something that I would rather listen to on the radio/podcast. I am not sure why there is a need to have it live at a bar and grill with a need for fans to show up except for advertising. Even if it was the Broncos, I wouldn't bother.
It doesn't mean that it is not valued and/or appreciated.

beardevil: Again, a key point missed: my comments regarding basketball are about the coaches show. Not about the support at games. Dynamic coach, winning games, still little to no attendance at the COACHES SHOW.

Students were actually the bulk of the fans in attendance at the season opening football game. No need to ask where they are.

Brian, pretty hard to say its appreciated when questions that are answered on the show are being asked days after the show took place. As for "live" event, it's an expectation that its out somewhere, with the PA speakers, etc. While, at times, we've had to deal with any number of client demands that didn't jibe (such as "we want the show, but can't have the volume too loud", we've continued to work to make it something for folks to attend. Palomino is a good spot for it, and I hope we keep the interest of the Lucios.

I dont live in Greeley, and when I did, I had no idea the coaches show was a live event. Also when I lived in Greeley I hardly ever listened to KFKA (sorry Troy) I went to live games instead, and there is no marketing for the show outside KFKA, I think a lot of local fans dont even know it exists...

PS Good to have you back posting Troy.

I have kind of a funny story. When I was a student we went to the UNC-NDSU game at old Jackson Field (must have been 1993 or 1994) I was with my girlfriend (now wife) and her dad. It was packed, over 9,000 and we were sitting on the visitors side. My wife is know for not paying attention. Over the PA during one of the breaks they announced that all games can be heard on KFKA 1310, the home of the Bears. Less than 10 seconds later, my girlfriend looks at her dad and points to the scoreboard which had a KFKA ad on it "Look dad, the UNC games are on the radio on 1310" like it was breaking news. The group in front of us turned around and looked at her liek she was "special". I cracked up.

I guess it's one of those "you had to be there" things, but it was funny at the time.

Isn't the coaches show at Cables End or something, like at 63rd and 10th?

What if the show was held close to campus, Pitchers, The Dugout, Bears... I don't really know the bars there anymore, but someplace close to campus and was really pushed to the students, like free beer during the show... the crowds would come. I realize it's dictated by sponsors but I know when I was in school there it would take a lot to get me to drive across town if I didnt' have to.

I live in Denver though it's hard enough to get up for games so I won't be up there on a Monday.

23rd Ave & 39th Street. And the reason it's not at any of the three listed is $$$. Those places won't spend any--they want everything lowball.

Even though the game is in HD - the logos that ALT are doing look like they were done using those Lite Brite things.
