Signing Day: Wednesday, February 6th

In a couple days we should have a much better idea on the type of recruiting class Sperbeck is putting together... Anyone else anxious, like me?

Do you guys think having such an impressive freshman class last year helps or hinders the recruiting process for this year? I mean, would a recruit look at our situation and think, "hey that could be me!" or "I'll never pass those guys up on the depth chart..."

Sperbeck plays the best player, frosh or senior, I don't think that would be a deciding factor. All schools face the same question.

I think USC is a great example of internal competition that translates into playing time. They have one of the best recruiting classes every year - especially at RB - and it doesn't seem to hurt the next years class. Now I'm not comparing SAC to USC, but I think the impact is the same when dealing with the appropriate level recruit for SAC. This years succes will factor on the "promise" of an opportunity to compete for playing time, and Marshall's ability to sell on the future of the program. I sure hope he has sales skills!

I’m excited to see what type of class Sperbeck puts together in his first full recruiting year. There is reason for optimism around the program with the new coaching staff, Broad in the near future, and an ’07 campaign in which the team was often competitive and demonstrated its potential. Cheers to what hopefully will be a good signing day for the Hornets!

Anyone have info on these local guys? Are they quality recruits? Did they have offers from any other schools?

You know, I think Sperbeck wants to utilize the TE position more, but I think that we haven't recruited some capable ones under the last two years of Mooshagian. I guess we will find out in the fall.

I’d like to see Carmazzi redshirt, particularly given the 2-3 soph QBs Sac will have going in to '08. (I would have preferred for Duncan White to RS too last year as he was pretty green.)

From ESPN’s recruiting site on Carmazzi…

“Carmazzi is a perfect fit for the west coast offense where his height and lack of arm strength can be masked and his accuracy and ability to get rid of the ball on time can be maximized. He has quick feet and is an above average athlete for a pocket passer. He shows a quick drop and set up and is at his best when he can dink and dunk and be sure of his first read. Release is adequate and he can get ri dof the ball quickly. Is most effective when working the middle of the field in the short-to-intermediate zones and when rolling out so he can see the field a bit better. The problem with Carmazzi as far as the Division I level is concerned is his lack of height and arm strength to stretch the field and fit the ball into tight spots. Does not show much zip on his throws and if he is late of off balance he will struggle to make throws to the sidelines. He is a QB prospect with redeeming qualities.”

At least ESPN has heard of him. With B.T. coming in from UCLA and our already loaded roster @ QB, we could have some interesting competition this spring and fall...

Not feeling good that we haven't announced our recruiting class!! I also saw we lost out to EWU on a RB out of Berkely - Jamar Smith. I think we're the only school in the BSC that hasn't made an annoucement.
