Questions that need answers:

Will our O-line grow up a bit and do their job?

Can the O stay on the field for more than 3 plays at a time?

Will our D clean up the mistakes and play a complete game?

Will we have any healthy running backs?

Is it legal for our receivers to use stickum on their hands?

Will we open up the play book?

What direction are we headed?

Weber will not see another defense or offense like Utah's again this year. I put literally no stock in the loss to the Utes. I think this team will be ok, that's a rough way to begin your college career as a Freshman QB.

Cal Poly will be tough, the triple option is always tough to defend but I think our defense will be up to the task, they have the last 2 times we have played Poly. Now if our offense has difficulty moving the ball against Poly then I will be a little worried but only time can tell where this team really is.

Out of all the Big Sky teams, Weber and poly faced the best competition. In Fargo the stangs gave up 458 yards of rushing to NDSU. However, something the stangs can be proud of is that NDSU was only 5-13 for 54 yards passing the ball. Yet, why pass when you can run? On the flip side, cal poly was 6-11 for 125 yards passing, but only had 82 yards of rushing on 52 attempts, a paltry 1.6 yard average. NDSU has been consistent winning championships with great defense, but how good are they really this year? Are they on par with Utah? Personally, I think the Utes are really good. I hate to say that because I love to hate the Utes, but nonetheless, they are good. Great? Well, we will just have to wait and see.

Offensively the Cats did very little against Utah, but defensively, I feel, we held our own against the Utes.No matter, both teams have a clean slate and are facing new competition. Personally, I feel Weber should be able to run on these guys. Which can only help our passing game. I'm wondering if we will see Jenks start Saturday.

I don't just love to hate the pUkes, like Max Hall, I hate everything about them. Anyway, it's apparent they are a very good team this year but we may have to wait 'till the end of the season to see how "great" they are since I think it's a fair assessment to say the pacX is middle-of-the-pack p5, at best.

I do not hate the UU's football program and I quite like their coach. I don't think much of coach Kay. He is a piece of work, that's for sure. I think there is no question that they are one of the best in the PAC. How does that relate to NDSU? I don't think it does. It's apples and oranges. I don't think we will play a better team than the UUs for a long time. :coffee:

Credit the Utes all you want, but it has to be concerning the offense was unable to execute well in any aspect. Bland scheme, inexperienced QB, poor run blocking, injuries at RB, drops from TE and Receivers. Lots of improvement needed this week if we’re going to go on the road and win a game.

This Cal Poly game is a non-conference game, correct?

Weber lost on the road to P5 Utah by 31
Poly lost on the road to FCS NDSU by 46

NDSU is really good, but still Utah>NDSU

Weber wins this game. If not, might be a long season.

Very little info out about injuries. Only word in weekly release is Garrett sprained his knee, which we already knew. Doesn't say if he'll play on Sat. This is how college athletics are now. The coaches are all paranoid and secretive on injuries. So annoying.

Only change to the depth chart is Josh Davis starting in place of Treshawn Garrett. Presumably that means Garrett is out for this game.

Per the Cal Poly weekly notes QB Khaleel Jenkins injured his knee last week in the third quarter.

Possibly out for the year? But still listed on the depth chart with an OR by his name.

If Josh Davis has been penciled in as the starter and Chris Jackson is the backup, that is a pretty clear sign that Garrett is out (not 100% sure, but I think Smith is out for the season?) for this game. Sprained knee?? Depends on the severity, but I'm guessing that is a two to three week injury, if it wasn't a severe sprain. I'm wondering why Clay Moss isn't going to be the starter? He got the majority of carries to end the game and was the only effective back against Utah's vaunted D. Hopefully he isn't injured also.

The Dan is right, on Thursday the offense was bad. Weber has to get better at moving the ball. I feel we have a really solid line and good backups. But the line can only do so much. We need our skill positions to wake up and play. If Jenks is the starting QB he needs to lead. My issue isn't the OL or even QB, it is the TE position. We are in trouble. The past three seasons, our offense depended a lot on the TE position and nothing has really changed. Justin Malone is our best option but he didn't look ready last Thursday. I'm hopeful he continues to develop and plays a lot better this week.

I believe that our D is more than up to the task at SLO. I would just like to see them clean up some of the little mistakes that led to big plays by the UUs.

The O, on the other hand, has everything to prove. If they can't stay on the field for longer than 3 plays, we could be embarrassed by anybody. To me, it still all comes down to the play of the O-line. Any QB or RB needs more than one second to make a play. For most of the UU game they looked like matadors. waving at defenders as they went by. :ohno:

Some Keys: Limit the run and force cal poly into passing situations on defense. Sustain long time consuming drives by effectively running the ball and actually getting our receiver to catch passes. Take points whenever you can get them.

I knew loosing Cantwell and Vollert would be much more impacting than some seemed to believe, but losing Sitake might be even worse. @Utah I didn't think the O was given much help getting the season started and stepping up to the huge task in front of them due to the play call. I realize there were some dropped passes and maybe some of the East-West running was not by design but it's difficult to believe this group isn't capable of their share of positive yardage downs with a better offensive game plan. SLO's defense won't be nearly as good as the pUkies' but I still think there needs to be noticeably better play call giving the O a better chance of consistent positive yardage plays.

Dropped in on the SLO forum. Most of their posters think they will have an easy time with Weber. They think that NDSU was a better team than Utah.

I thought hat SLO was a community of intellectuals. I know that NDSU is good, but I think Utah would kick the shizz out of them. I hope we kick their butts, just to shut them up.

It all comes down to QB play. Not only was Cantwell our best offensive player but he was also our best defender. As far as I’m considered the defense did amazing against Utah. Only allowing 41 points with an offense that didn’t move the ball is a miracle.

I’m hoping we can win this game on the ground and Jenks can get something going. It sounds like he might be our third string QB and would not be ready yet if the other guys weren’t hurt.

He does look like he has some talent, it’s just gonna take some time. Where is Western Montana when you need them.

Uhh, what message board is that? Why the hate? I think we (Cal Poly) will be lucky to get 3 wins during the season? If we don't beat Brown, probably 0-11.

Here are the quotes.

"I thought defensively Navarro, Kitu and Jayson Lee played their asses off yesterday. IMO NDSU is far more dominant at the FCS level than Alabama is at the FBS level and that’s scary.
They are certainly much better than the FBS teams that played BSC conference teams the last few days. "

Going back to get you a copy of the original post, I found it had been edited. What it said before the edit was something along the line of "I expect Cal Poly to take care of Weber quite easily." They changed it to say "a much more competitive game." I would have changed it as well. However, nobody challenged the original post.

Also, you didn't notice the LOL face. It was my attempt at humor. Sorry if I rankled your mane, Mangler.
