SLO this week

Here are the quotes.

"I thought defensively Navarro, Kitu and Jayson Lee played their asses off yesterday. IMO NDSU is far more dominant at the FCS level than Alabama is at the FBS level and that’s scary.
They are certainly much better than the FBS teams that played BSC conference teams the last few days. "

Going back to get you a copy of the original post, I found it had been edited. What it said before the edit was something along the line of "I expect Cal Poly to take care of Weber quite easily." They changed it to say "a much more competitive game." I would have changed it as well. However, nobody challenged the original post.

Also, you didn't notice the LOL face. It was my attempt at humor. Sorry if I rankled your mane, Mangler.

That is so funny, I'm the one that made that quote. I said nothing about the Mustangs taking care of Weber easily, in fact I will be surprised if we can pull this one out because Weber is always a tough opponent. In regard to our quarterback Khaleel Jenkins, it appears he has a grade 1 PCL tear and is expected back in week four on the road at EWU. For the record NDSU could have scored 75 on us but they are class acts and called off the dogs. I honestly believe if NDSU were awarded 22 more scholarships they could easily compete with Boise State and San Diego State for the Mountain West title every single year, they are that good and possibly better, aka compete and beat some mid tier Pac12 teams.

You guys beat us 17-3 in SLO last year and we had four fumbles. Our defense definately kept us in that game. I'm glad we don't have to face Cantwell again. I heard a rumor that your stud running back may miss tomorrow night's game?

What are your thoughts regarding the loss of McKay Murphy? My son is our starting right guard, #60 and he was tasked with blocking Murphy on most snaps last year. I'm not sure how many tackles Murphy made in that game, but I thought my son did a pretty good job blocking him cause Murphy was a stud!

Good luck in every game to you guys except tomorrow night and here's to hoping both teams stay healthy, so critical for any team's chances in the super competitive Big Sky Conference.

McKay Murphy had 4 tackles 2 of them were sacks in last years contest.

McKay Murphy was a really good player. Not always present in the stat column though. Often he was valuable just by dominating the middle and allowing the rest of the team to clean up the play. he will be missed, but on defense our front four and our linebackers are still very good.

Your son may have his hands full.

Cool, I would expect nothing less from a Wildcat defense. It's funny because Murphy was older than my oldest daughter who's 5 1/2 years older than my son. Even funnier my son was trying to trash talk him and Murphy said something like dude, I'm 26 years old and married with kids! Junior was locking horns with a full on man that night and I later found out he's the youngest son of Dale Murphy? There's some good athletic genes for ya......

I found out Murphy got one of his sacks off my son on a nice bull rush, the only sack my son has given up in two years of college football. He says Murphy is the best DT he's faced to date.

Any word on the status of the Wildcats starting running back?

Treshawn Garrett is not listed on the depth chart and is not expected to play. Josh Davis is listed as the starter this week and Kris Jackson continues to back up the RB position. Weber has several injuries at the RB position, but has alot of depth there as well. i would expect to see Davis, Jackson, Clay Moss, and Brady May share the attempts from the RB/FB position. Also expect to see our QB position run at times, though not as often as Cantwell did last year.

Our defensive line is extremely young, but fairly talented. This area along with the backup quarterback position will be two of my biggest concerns.

Polydad, I'm a huge fan of watching the development of an OL. Poly always has a talented line. You guys have to with the triple option. They have to be highly conditioned, move well, and be strong. The OL is really what makes a triple option offense work. After the line, the triple option depends a huge amount on the play of a QB. Even though your starter went down with a knee injury against NDSU, I still think your backup is capable. He is experienced after all.

Murphy was a horse for sure. His leadership and skill are definitely missed, but Weber is deep. To be honest, your son probably will go up against a freshman tomorrow night who could be his same age.

On Weber's side, I'm not terribly worried about our defense. I am concerned about our offensive skill positions. Another poster said it best that Jenks really, due to injury, is like our 3rd string guy right now starting. Yet, Weber's QBs are talented. Jenks was right there with Ricedorff (SR, Boise State Transfer) after spring ball and was fighting with Constantine during camp for the starting job. I really feel he got the job due to Constantine not being 100% yet. However, that doesn't mean that Jenks isn't a good and talented QB. Constantine had a major knee operation at the end of last season (probably why Weber was able to get him). I just don't see Constantine playing this season due to the surgery and his recovery. He does have a lot of his mobility back, but one hit and well, that could be it. Ricedorff could go, but hasn't really been practicing a lot since the first week of camp. After Jenks Weber has Miles (last years back up --SO), Hymas (RFR and returned LDS missionary) and two true freshmen.

I think if asked most Cal Poly fans would tell you they’d expect the team to win between 1-4 games this season. I doubt most have any expectation that they will beat Weber. Oddsmakers have Weber winning by 18.5 and I’d say that sounds about right.

I’m of course pulling for an upset but Weber looks like a playoff team to me so realistically a win this Saturday is a long shot at best.

I agree CPAlum, winning tomorrow will be a tall order for sure but never forget what happened at Dana J Dykehouse two years ago by an admittedly better CP team led by Dano Graves. I think the Mustangs were around 10 point dogs in that game.

Thanks for your response N.Ogdencat. One thing I have noticed is it’s very rare to see a true freshman offensive lineman getting play time in a triple option offense. The blocking schemes and techniques are far too complicated for most to perfect in a three week fall camp, even if they have the knee bend and athleticism to someday be good in the triple option. I’ve seen it take some linemen two or three years to earn playtime in this system and that includes some that come from Big, successful high school programs running the veer. Overall the current starting 5 offensive linemen aren’t quite as good as the group two years ago was. However, IMO the bigger difference is between Dano Graves and our current crop of quarterbacks.

With all this said I’m a big fan of Khaleel Jenkins and in the fourth game when he got injured last year he rushed for over 200 yards on the road in that game. The offense showed flashes of old on the road running the ball really well in games against Northern Iowa and Idaho State. The team had little consistency doing anything last year, hence the 1-10 record. Probably the thing that gives me the most hope is CP only lost 17-3 to Weber last year despite four fumbles and all the sacks.

It wasn't from what you had said, Polydad. The 'handle Weber easily' comment came from the long winded poster who started the thread, I believe. Anyway, when I went back to copy and quote it, it had been changed. Who ever that was, they thought better of it and changed it. It also was late at night when I was reading through it. It could have been a pigmentation of my emalgamation.

It’s all good Oldrunner I appreciate the banter. Here’s to an injury free game for both squads and may the better team win

The ONLY damn BSC game that has no stats other than score on ESPN too! Does CP still use teletype and 8mm film?

How did Weber score?

Video quality is shit. Wish conference could get on with espn3 which is good quality. It shouldn't have to be this damn hard to watch a game in 2018.
