Southern Utah 1/4/2014

15 point favorites we are. The ThunderNerds beat us last year 51-50. They're 1-8.

This is a game we can't lose.

I remember during the Chicago Bulls' heyday with Jordan, they would win 70 games but come to Denver and lose. Altitude aside, nothing's easy, nothing's guaranteed.

Probably a bit of both. Southern Utah appears to be in a complete tear down and rebuild mode right now. But hey, give UNC credit, did what they were supposed to do. That has to be the biggest margin of victory for the school in Big Sky Conference play, right? (Also curious as to what the largest margin of defeat in the Big Sky in their history)

Big week upcoming. the Weber State affair is probably as big as a game can be this early in the conference season. Certainly could be dubbed a statement game. And then also take on Idaho State 48 hours later. The Bengals seem to be very much improved from what we've seen out of Pocatello the last few seasons. Get to 4-0 and you could make legitimate claims about how this may be the best team in the league right now.

Answered my own questions by using this thing called the World Wide Web:

Since joining the conference in 2006-2007, UNC's biggest margin of defeat to a Big Sky opponent came last season, a 25 point loss--79-54--to Weber State in Ogden on January 3rd, 2013. The second biggest margin was 23, which has happened twice. Once to Idaho State 86-63 in Pocatello (in the very next game after Weber) on January 5th, 2013 and back to that inaugural season, an 89-66 defeat to Montana State in Bozeman on February 21st, 2007.

And yeah, tonight's 91-55, 36-point win IS the largest margin of victory for UNC since joining the conference against a Big Sky opponent. The previous high was 30, an 84-54 win over Sacramento State in Greeley on March 2nd, 2011. That was the last regular-season game of the year when UNC clinched the regular season crown and the right to host the Conference Tournament. The next highest total is 27, a 77-50 victory over Montana State here in Greeley on March 1st, 2009.

The more you know.

After witnessing that game, I'm hoping we are really good rather then the SUU being really bad.

From being at the game, it's a good bit of both. SUU was obviously overmatched, that was apparent after about three possessions, but there were a lot of things to like about how UNC played. They didn't take the game for granted and came out with the intensity you should for a Big Sky game. More than that, they did so many little things right, communicating on defense, making the extra pass, boxing out, etc. B.J. and his staff have really coached this team up well.

The cherry on tonight's sundae is that KSU, who we beat on their own court, upset #6 Oklahoma State, and KSU is now 11-3. The better KSU does the better it makes our win on the road look.

We got deep into our bench tonight. Well done men. Weber's gonna be a bit tougher.

Great overall effort ! This team is really starting to jell and really showing some athleticism and a deep bench ! I think last nights game was a little bit SUU being real bad but UNC looking real good . Thursday with Weber will be the big test . Hope we have a big crowd on Thursday . Go BEARS

Will be interested to see if KSU breaks into the Top 25 when the new rankings come out.

KSU is now ranked in the Top 25. Well done Bears!

SUU is like the basketball version of our football program.

If only we could just do away with football and invest everything in basketball, the only sport that matters. Like Gonzaga. When you can't afford to lose, gamble everything. 8)
