Spread vs. Tight Offense

If or when we get a new coaching staff, wouldn't it be nice to go to a more power run based offense. It seems the bears are trying with 0 success to emulate Oregon or other spread teams. Someone in a previous post said something about the triple option. I had to agree. Look at Stanford, they line up in a Standard "I" formation all the time and just run the ball. Last week we had 5 rushing yards in the first half! Obviously we would need a run block O line rather than a pass protect O line.

The thing about going to a power offense, and possibly running the triple option or offenses like that is you're guaranteed to lose players to other schools.

No reciever, or tight end will like to play in an offense where it's all run. Players like Miller, Vander Velde, and even the QB want to have a passing game invloved.

Truly, the Bears can run a spread style offense with the threats on the outside. But there needs to be an Oline that can block for more than 2 seconds to let Newsom or Rubes get the ball down the field.

And hell, get the tight ends involved more. There's usually 4 suited up right? They all have different abilities to create huge mismatches in the middle.

I vote for an option offense like Air Force and Ga Tech run, that is if we can recruit speed. We'll have to hire an option guy like the one from Georgia we did not hire when we got Downing. An option would set us apart from the rest of the conference and works with undersized guys since we can't seem to compete with Montana and MSU for the big uglies. If done right an option is a nightmare to defense and gobbles up the clock. We could compete with Air Force for option players since there would not be a service requirement like there is with the Falcons.

An option offense doesn't need all those WR's so who cares if they don't come here. We'll be stacked with RB's that couldn't get shots at better schools and our QB will be a RB that throws it maybe twice a game and we'll crush it! :notworthy:

Sure go option. Take another two, three or even four years to get the players in here to run the offense efficiently. Start another complete rebuild. It's brilliant!!!

No way. We already run the ball too damn much as it is. What we should be doing is letting it fly and throwing the ball 40-50 times a game. Sorry if I trust the likes of Mike McCarthy, Sean Payton and Bill Belichick on how to run an offense in 2014 than I do Woody Hayes.
