Spring Ball/Quad-a-Thon

With spring ball approaching, what is everyone expecting from the team? What would you all like to see?

I personally am excited to see the QB battle between Rubs, Brock, and Jon.. Going to be a good one

also, anyone going to attend the quad a thon this year? I plan on going to see the strength improvements of the team and speed as well from Dinks great speed and strength program

Regardless of all the coaching issues and bitching on this board , I still want this team to be competitive, successful and kick some ass. I too think the QB battle will be exciting to watch and will be good for the team. I also hope the O-line will transform into something special. I think a lot of new guys will be pushing for starting positions across the board. Go Bears

what little sources I have claims that the red-shirt QB Knipp will give them all a run for their money. 6' 4" 205. Cannon for an arm. highest squat of any skill guy. broke every passing record in his high school and all state. Should be fun to watch. Lord knows we need something fun to watch.

~info comes via a quadmate

Knipp might catch up to the others after this upcoming season, but I doubt sooner. Newsom and Rubes have playing time in the system and time under center. Those are things you can't teach. I still think Sean will hold on to the top spot, but Newsom or Berglund will both see the field.

During the spring I'll be interested to see how the offensive line has or has not improved. Everything starts up front, so their progress will be crucial.

agree BD on the o-line. huge part. I am ready for something fun to watch. all I am saying is #15 had his chance did not win so lets see what 14,16 or 7 can do...QB is an unforgiving position

Duke what is your hidden agenda for bashing Sean( which quarterback other then Sean is your son). Are you blaming last seasons performance on him. It was young offense playing a tough schedual. All aspects of this team have to get better. Do you think he was just gifted the starting role, and the captain position last year. He had to earn these things from the team and coaches. He is well aware hell have to compete for his job as does everyone else. If you don't understand that you are less informed than what I even thought.

I'm looking forward to seeing how our defense will perform with healthy LB's and new faces on the D-line. Last season we struggled against the run giving up just over 5 yds per carry. Hopefully this year we can do a better job of stuffing the run. :twocents:

Here we go... http://uncbears.com/news/2015/2/11/FB_Spring2015.aspx?utm_content=bufferff813&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm still getting zero response whether or not Willingham is back from his injury? If he's back, our LB's will be very good.

Isnt it crazy how much injuries have gone up since Joe was fired and they brought in Dink? :ohno:

Crazy... Dinks program has hurt more athletes than helped.. Lifting weights to their max isnt good on joints and muscles.. Here you have kids and the coaches trying to get the kids to throw as much weight on the bar as they can take and it destroys knees and so on.. No wonder there have been so many knee and back injuries and things like that... Probably the dumbest program I have seen.

When kids get injured they are punished on what dink calls "muscle beach" where he puts them through a pretty tough workout when they should be getting treatment and resting...

He has posted on here before. Perhaps he will chime in and defend his program.

My son has gotten quite a bit stronger in the last two years under Dink's program. He's also faster, quicker, and more athletic than he was when he arrived at UNC. Weight training and conditioning are like anything else in life, what you get out of it, depends on what you put into it. Injuries happen. It's a violent game. The last thing we need is to pussify our players by discouraging them from lifting heavy weights, especially during the off season. It's time to go hard or go home.

This is simply not true. Now, not using proper technique when doing so will cause injury yes, but your statement as it is does not hold up as true. Look at how few injuries there are in olympic weight lifting if you need evidence of this, I'd say those athletes are putting up some serious weight. Now, if they are not taught proper technique and are lifting heavy in addition to that then injuries can occur yes.

I can tell you CSU-P players do max, or very close to it (90 or 95%) during the offseason during their heavy lifting cycle. Low reps combined with heavy weights is one of the best ways to become an explosive football athlete. Their injury rate is not higher due to this and they have been pretty successful pretty quickly, the S&C program is a huge reason for that.

I'm not saying your S&C program is good or bad, I just don't like inaccurate information about it being spread.

I understand where you are coming from, I wasn't very specific in what they are doing. You are correct lifting and maxing has no problems and that is where most explosiveness comes from but with dinks program he has the players do tempos such as 3 6 0 where they hold at 90 degrees with 4 or 5 plates on for 6 seconds and then explode back up... this is where the back and knee injuries come from..

ThunderwolvesFan and McCandyman thank you for your support. Nick Chandler I mean BigBearFan76 and FootballFan15, like I have always stated. I refuse to hide behind a screen name. I will dare to be great in front of the world even if I fall flat on my face. At least I was brave enough to try. You two sit back and criticize every little nook and cranny that you can find to focus your little brains on. This is a rule I live by and you two should try it. You're either part of the problem or part of the solution. You decide which you will be. As far as UNC and the athletic programs go, I choose to be PART OF THE SOLUTION!!!! and I will continue to work my ass off to turn this things around. You see its easy to criticize and throw stones but when the booboo hits the fan you will notice how many people will be there with you to clean the walls and how many will point fingers and laugh and say "I told ya so". You can criticize all you want but as for me and my staff we are doing exactly what we want to do with our lives. You two should try to do the same. Lets try this on for size. Try to say positive things and speak positivity into what we are doing instead of trying to tear us down. We are not going to stop doing everything we can to make this university the best we possibly can just because you two are complaining and criticizing everything you don't understand. Hey, jump on board of the positive ship, it sure would make you feel better than that of a sour puss. You're still more than welcomed to join me at 5:45am in the mornings to go over Strength & Conditioning/Sports Performance because obviously you two (BigBearFan76 and FootballFan15) are clueless to what my job is actually all about but you know what??????? at the end of the day when the check is cut it only has my name on it and I don't have to share any of it with you two.

Do you even know what tempos are??????? Please explain it. Ill wait.
Thanks for the response Dink. I totally agree with your take on hiding behind their screen names, and again I don't want people to think that "fan15" is associated with my son who is number 15 on team. I just want to be clear on this as some people have questioned if Fan is associated some how
with my son Sean.
