Spring Ball

I think it is a great move for Risner to go to OLB. He has some great instincts and will help the front 7, which needs to improve. He might as well move to OLB, then he will make all those tackles closer to the LOS. The only reason he had so many tackles at safety is because the front 7 did not do their job on a consistent basis. I predict that the new DC will put a better front 7 on the field this year, and it starts with this move. So who replaces Risner? Though Bloyer always plays at 110% and last year played well in the nickel package, I am not so sure he is capable of being the starter at the position vacated by Risner. I am sure that the DC has the answers. On another note... the Risner move may end up hurting his chances to play on Sundays, that is, if he wants to play on Sunday. Currently he is the second highest ranked Bear at his position (SS) in the 2017 NFL draft.

Agreed about Willingham. He would be our best, if he plays. Here is my take on the LBs (not including Willingham). Stansbury is the best overall backer. For some reason DC Kerr would always take him out in the nickel and dime packages. I think he is an every down backer, along with Risner. Riddle had a so-so year, after an outstanding freshman year. Look for him to put on some weight and be awesome next year. At times last year, Newsom was the best and other times he blew his assignments. Like Riddle, he will shine in 2016. It is my belief that Hatcher and Isenburg are playing a level too high. They would be all-world at D2. Though they have good "ball sense" they both are a step slow. I don't know Williams speed, but his quickness is lacking. He could play a pivotal role in 2016, if he is working hard in the off-season. It's just my take. Of course, if the line is inconsistent again, then the backers will have a handful.

Hatcher was only a freshman last season, a true freshman at that, so I would give him more time. I do agree w/ your assessment on Isenburg.

The story that Risner is moving to OLB is false. He is not or ever was being moved according to the players on the team.

Darn that rumor mill. I thought it made sense. I guess it's the season for rumors. Did you hear that Trump is going to ask Jesse Jackson to be his VP?

I'm hearing nothing but positive things about the new strength and conditioning coach and the off-season workouts. I think we are going to see a more physical team this season.

Pro Day is Tuesday, March 8, 2016. Anyone even aware of this? Does the school help prepare the athletes for this event in any manner? I haven't seen any press on this whatsoever.

Today would be a great day to have an indoor practice facility! Any reports from spring practice are welcome. I probably won't be able to get to Greeley until the Spring Game. I'm looking forward to seeing how coach Jones improves the defense, especially stopping the run. Bear Down!

Good conversation...

Nice article written by Mustari in today's Tribune about how the Bears need to step up and start winning some games.

What's funny about that, is that Sam was giving a lot of us crap for basically saying the same thing! My mouth fell open when I read it. Its like a light went on in his head.

I went to the scrimmage on Saturday and was mildly impressed. Coach Jones has the D playing aggressive. Can't wait to see Willingham and Stansbury join the LBs crew in the fall. I really liked how Singleton looked. On offense, the O-line (and Coach Wilke) have a look of confidence. They will be the leaders on offense. I believe that for the first time in a long time, the "O" has the potential to consistently have 2nd and short yardage. This will allow our "O" to dictate the game. Tempo or no tempo (still not a big fan of the gimmicky nation of tempo, and neither is 5 time champion North Dakota St) Coach Boyer will be able to plug and play with his skilled positions. My only concern about the "O" is Trae and AD. It appears that both of them may be concussion prone. Good thing there are some good senior RBs. Another concern is the QB position. Knipp is looking better than ever, but after him there is a huge drop-off. I didn't get too good a feel from the special teams, but I am sure they will perform like last year. I made a prediction that the team would go 2-9, maybe 4-7 with some timed breaks. Here is my new prediction: 8-3, and make the playoffs. See you all at the 4/23 scrimmage.

Looking forward to seeing the guys in action on the 23rd. If the defense can keep up the intensity and play aggressive all season long, this team will win several games. The offense proved they can point up points last season, and they are all back for the most part. Should be an exciting season.

I like your enthusiasm Kaydee & McCandyman ! And thanks for the Spring update. This coming season will really be a test to see if this program is moving forward as this is a pretty tough schedule! I hope the team and coaches are up to the task ! Go Bears

Mustari should worry about covering everyday IMPORTANT Bears news before he writes a lazy opnion piece. For example, Dallas Anglin and Jordan Wilson both won't be apart of the men's basketball team next year. These two players were our best this year, and there has been nothing in the Tribune about their departures. Anglin was dismissed and Wilson is transferring. When two of your top players are leaving, you need to report that. He misses on SO much news it is crazy. I guess the people up in Greeley don't really care enough about UNC so he gets away with t. For those of us who actually want solid coverage, it's upsetting. They need to hire a few young/hungry journalists to provide exhaustive coverage of our teams.
