Spring Football Schedule

is posted on the website. I'll be in Greeley on Thursday and Friday so I might stop and watch. The most interesting position battle will be QB for sure. Also, there's some new things going on. They're going to have a practice in Littleton and they've got an alumni event too.

This quote jumps out at me:

Head Coach Scott Downing prepares for his third spring with the team and has the majority of coaches from last season returning for this year which should help with continuity.

So which and how many coaches are gone?

Well, according to the quote, a minority of coaches have gone.

I'm sure the Tribune will have a big write up on this shortly. They have been covering CSU's spring practices like it's the Super Bowl so I'm sure they will give the home town team even more attention. 8)

The Trib story is up today. It mentions Schrenk is going to get snaps with the first team during drills. I guess Darnell's liked what he has seen from him in the off season. Good for James. I don't like that it mentions Silipo is transfering to an FBS team. What's the deal, it seems if one of our young guys has a good season his freshmen or soph season, they leave for the FBS. This happens every year. We've got to keep this guys here.

He was one of the least terrible players on a terrible team so I guess that qualifies him to play at USC.

There is probably an extra seat on the bench next to Duran for him to keep warm.

I wonder where he went? I checked CU, CSU and Wyo's websites and he's not on the roster. The guy was our second leading tackler and jets. Whoopee! Someone else will step up. And if you're reading this Silipo, thanks for honering the program that gave you a chance.

So me being the biter and angry person that I am I went and looked up Duren's numbers last year at CU just to get an idea what he did. I watched about 6 or 7 CU games last year and don't remember once seeing him on the field so I was surprised he actually played in 9 games, 82 plays, and had a whopping 13 tackles...

Now Silpo wasn't half the player Duren was in my opinion and so having no idea where Silpo will pop up I can't believe he's going to be starting at a Big 10 school in two years.

I can see why playing at a Big XII school is more appealing than UNC but call me crazy but I'd rather start for 4 years, be a focal point of the program, and be in the contention for all conference honors at UNC than be someone's bench jockey at CU.

But that's just me, I'd rather be on the field than on the bench.

And what a shocker one went to Mullen and the other to Cherry Creek, the two most arrogant programs in the state.

Questions ??
Why are we always one of the last teams to post our regular season schedule??
Why does our website suck? (comparatively speaking?)
Are the assistant coaches paid $$ (I have heard they are not)
Do we have a snowballs chance in hell this season? (I think we do but I'm an optimist)
:?: :?: :?: :?:
Anybody...Bueller, Bueller, Bueller??
Let's start some conversation, the Greeley Trib won't!!

You're right about Silipo. He's not half the player Duren is and Jake isn't exactly doing that great in Boulder. I just don't get it. Both of those players would be all-conference here.

82 plays--special teams.

Why are we always one of the last teams to post our regular season schedule??

Probably because the AD is waiting on a contract or two to be returned to him. And, no, I don't know who they may be with...

Why does our website suck? (comparatively speaking?)

Because the Sports Information Department was allowed to wither away last year, when both Kyle and Eric left, leaving an intern to try and handle it all. The new director is still playing catchup, and only recently had a new assistant come on board, after the one hired last fall bailed before basketball season started. There are other things being prioritized by the Athletic Department before the website. IMHO, the site will undergo quite a bit of change this summer.

Are the assistant coaches paid $$ (I have heard they are not)

Depends on which assistant positions you are talking about, and then there's the question about whether they paid f/t salaries or p/t ones. It varies.

The asst. coaches are paid, it's not a lot, but at least the top 5 or so are considered full time meaning they don't just go work another job off season but maintain a 365 day commitment.

The website... Yeah, I think the format is good and the info is pretty good (when there) compared to a lot of schools but what seems to be an issue is the timeliness and how incomplete things are and that does bother me also.

What are the chances of us seeing an updated roster this spring? Slim to none I would say... Although it seems like all other schools have a 2008 roster up. It would be nice to confirm who has come and gone.

Second, player bios have been pretty much scrapped. For most teams we haven't updated the bios since 2006. Take a guy like Brazealle for example, he was a two year starter at QB yet they don't even have a face shot on his bio. That's pretty weak...

I realize this takes time but I'd think a couple interns or a couple kids from the JMC school could get this done and maintained. I mean it can't be too hard, every other school seems to have been able to update player bios in the last 2 years.

It all goes back to leadership. Jay cant keep a consistant staff in place so everything is always in need of catch-up. Call me crazy but it seems to me that the website should be one of the higher priorites on the public relations list, seeing as how it is one of the most...you know.... public parts of the department.

PS The fundraising items on the webpage are still from 2005.....we should start a pool on when those will get updated >:(

Oh, if you only knew. We all have ideas where the priorities should lie, but we're not in charge.

Thanks for the answers. I have a partial schedule from opponent schools websites.
I must say I am excited for this season. I think it's a more cohesive team. I guess it's do or die for Downing! Hopefully Darnell will take early retirement!!

Could anyone close to the program in the Greeley area please get us some information about what the Spring training camp is looking like. It seems like we don't get much information about what is going on there.

I was out there today. They had a scrimmage and the defense looked pretty good. I guess it's hard to say actually, maybe our offense was just horrible. Waggener is now the number 1 qb. He did ok.

The seconday looks good. Myles Hays and Quincy Wofford did well. I think Hays had two picks.

It is really hard to gauge a team in spring drills, and it is not really the intent of them. Coaches are evaluating players on an individual basis, and getting a handle on what fundamentals need work. Until a team gets the opportunity to get on the field against another team, trying to rate the team strength is at best, conjecture.
