Spring Practice Begins...

If anyone knows, Hows the intensity during practice now that they have a few more days in?

I was at practice today. Towards the end of practice Collins wasn't exactly happy about how things were going and during team drills, he stopped practice and made the players run sprints.

I would certainly say there's more intensity.

There was a full contact (less QB's) scrimmage today...I missed the first hour, but the defense seemed to stop the offense quite a bit, and there were some big passing plays on the offensive side of the ball. Lots of hittin' - fun to watch. We must have some new O lineman; a couple of those guys are huge! I really hope Heather makes up a new roster soon...

Maybe they'll do the full contact scrimmage next saturday too..??

One good indicator to keep your eyes on in the spring, is the injury report/walking wounded. Downings teams had huge injury lists in the spring every year, a terrible sign...

You are going to have injuries, no doubt, but if there's 10 or 12 guys not practicing because of injuries, It goes a long way telling me that we are either A) out of shape, or B) allowed to slack off, or C) both of the above, which is where this team has been this time of year in the past five years or so.

Nice to see some reporting from the sidelines here guys, keep it up.

I don't think they'll be out of shape this season. They're running all the time in practice. They have to with the no-huddle offense this year.

Went to the scrimmage today. Here's a few observations...

Offense: Each of the QB's took snaps with the first team and I'm not sure who has the edge. Probably Orms. Cameron Deen looked really good, but I think he was going up against defense reserves. Running backs look good. John Burnley and David Deens look really good, but we need depth. Josh Morton is still hurt and will probably always be hurt. I think when the true freshman Bernard gets here this summer, he should see some time carrying the rock. Receivers look really good, lots of depth but we still need Jace.

Defense: Looked okay, but secondary struggled. Marcel Gibbons was getting picked on. Brandon Owens looks really good at CB and Conner Glenn is going to be a stud. He was making plays today.

Special Teams: Didn't notice anything great. We need to get better at that position. We were the worst in the conference last year.

Awesome pictures! It's just pathetic the fans can provide current pictures yet the website can't provide a current roster, heck the season has only been over since October 2010! Kind of like being a Colorado Rapids fan, they can win the MLS Cup but the front office is stil bush league... maybe too many trips Tucson to keep up on other job responsibilities?

That's what I was thinking too. Usually there's updates, roster updates, reports, etc, from spring practice. Absolutely nothing this year, including zero update on rosters. I went to about 4 practices this year and usually Kennedy is out there handing out rosters, but I didn't see her this year. I know she's probably with the baseball team, and I'm not necessarily blaming her, but this is bush league.
