Starting QB? Poll #2

I'm changing my vote to Howland. He still has 3 years in Davis's offense and will be the one the coaches choose to develop. On top of that he is a scrambler and very good athlete.

Has White even spent one day as the #1 guy this fall? If not we are only a week away from them leaving for lake charles. With each passing day a switch becomes less Likely

I agree. However, I picked White on the basis of winning now. JG knows he has to win now to create the fan base that he wants, and White will give him that chance this year. Also, scrambling shouldn't matter that much in this offense.

I agree, Ive been a fan of Whites since he came in last year at Montana and almost saved the game. White has the game experience from last year, so my vote goes for white. However the point is well taken that the future should be thought about and I think its awesome that Howland is making a run at starter so early in his PSU career.

I wonder how the team feels about the QB race? Seems like rotating at McNeese wouldn't be ideal in terms of timing with receivers. I only support two QB systems when the styles are so different as to give the offense an advantage over an unsuspecting defense, or a defense that has to waste time preparing for two different offenses.

There's only so much time to prepare two different offenses.

If a team knows what to expect from one QB or another (usually not until conference), it IS easier for a defense to adjust to a particular QB.

It's a high risk game, to be sure. You can probably get away with that early on, but the need becomes settling on a QB that expands the playbook the most as the season progresses.

I hope either QB isn't predictable like that, we will run a more one-sided version of the R&S, Hawaii runs a lot more then Mouse did in the 80's, Hawaii throws 35-40 times a game usually, we will be around the 45-50 range if we duplicate what occurred in the 80's, Hopefully the guy that starts is the right one.

Do you think the longer it takes to name the starting QB, the more likely that Howland will be the starter? Or was it known that the starter would not be named until after two-a-days?

Its starting to look like they won't announce it until very close to the first game or even after the first game. I am not in favor of the two quarterback system, timing and consistancy are everyting in a pass oriented offense.

Whenever they announce it I think it will make the front page of the Oregonian, they are really creating hysteria around the choice and I think that draws media attention, a plus for PSU.

Wow, OSU is going with the two QB system for the Utah game. Canfield and Moevao will both get snaps in the game.

I think OSU, and PSU, should pick one guy for the opener.

Agreed! I don't think that Mouse or JG will align with the 2 QB system. Mouse's system relies on one QB to establish consistency, pace, and timing. I still think they are leaning toward Howland.

If Mouse had to make a decision now it would probably be Howland. I think he wants to give White a chance to prove he has learned the system and the reads because of his physigue and arm strength. I am pretty sure Mouse will name a starter early next week, but keep his word and give both QBs some playing time.
