Battle of the Beatens this yr in Cedar City. Regardless of opposition, only two BSC teams without a win so far (?)...should be exciting, emotional, & physical. At least the Wildcats or Thunderbirds will break out of the winless column & get a conference win to boot. For the loser...team/fans' psyche could be going from hopeful to hopeless! GO WILDCATS--GET OVER THE LOSING HUMP !!

I am proud of this team! First of all, they are playing their butts off. It't not easy representing a school when your not winning games. I want to personally thank the players for their tremendous effort! No moral victories but as long as the players are having fun, giving everything they got and the games stay competitive, I have no problem being a fan.

However, this game is different. If we only win one game the entire season please make it this game! I KNOW WE HAVE THE TALENT!!! We just need every player to forget about the past and remember that this is a huge instate rivalry game with major pride and bragging rights up for grabs.

I know its not easy, but I'm asking every player to please prepare for and play this game like its the most important game they have ever played! I have a great feeling about this game, a victory would be huge!!!!

Go WEBER!

As disappointing as it is for Weber to be 0-4 and especially with the last two slow starts and losses, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter. The season begins now! I, too, am happy to see a team of players who have not given up in a game or on this season. No one realistically had high hopes for for a winning season this year but there is still a ton of (conference) football to be played as well as most of their home games. 6-6 is what I'd hoped for and although 6-2 the rest of the way seems highly unlikely, I'm still optimistic they can salvage this season into something respectable and worth applauding. I still see an improved product and a much improved coaching staff. It will take a few years to see the fruits of Coach Hill's recruiting efforts but I already see a competent (not winning, yet) team on the field.

As for @SUU, GO WEBER! Let get this first and most important W at this point in the season.

Probably unlikely, but not impossible if they get problems worked out...nothing like that first win getting their psyche up & confidence up...SUU is definitely winnable & so are 4-5 upcoming conf games...I'm thinking a 5-3 record the rest of the way is very doable...maybe optimistic, but I like this WSU coaching staff & team, it's just getting the kinks ironed out. They haven't been blown out of the stadium yet, at least like last yr in a few games. :thumb:

I find it weird that SUU has benched their starting QB (Aaron Cantu)from last year that won them 8 games and got them to the playoffs. He was benched after the 2nd game of this season in favor of BYU Transfer Ammon Olsen. To me that seems like a sure fire way to divide a locker room. :twocents:

Anyone have any injury updates, specifically on Wilcox, Bolen, and Turner? Thanks, Weber and the Standard, for reporting nothing on injuries :wall:. And why did Longangu start at TE last week?

Neither Wilcox or Turner are listed on the 2 deep, Bolen is on there. Looks like the O-line is completely mixed up. Also I thought it weird that Deonte Florence isnt listed as a starter anymore.

And Helam Heimuli is no longer on the 2 deep. Come on Garside, get us some useful information. I enjoy the individual stories on specific players, but we need some team and game info, such as injuries, depth chart, and game prep.

Good to see conference play start. An 0-5 start would be a complete kick to the crotch for me. Won't be easy to win this game though. Overall, conference teams are 3-26 on the road this season, and two of those wins were against transitional FCS teams.

Second that! (but do not want to pile on Garside who's doing a good job), sure notice as reader that the SE has cut staff to bare minimum because the coverage, other than the newer good feature stories, has dropped considerably. No regional sports briefs on NCAA football games, no beginning of week column on game analysis (with coaches comments), etc. And inaccuracies with the Scoreboard posts, example: Big Sky Conference football standings show the Weber/Sac St game as a conference game in the standings. MISS SOME OF THE OLD COVERAGE!! Yah, I know we are all supposed to be surfing the internet for every tidbit of info...but just saying.

I like Garside and his reporting. He is doing a good job. I'm not happy with the Standard. I don't understand why they are becoming Utah and BYU homers. It seems that Jim Burton only writes about Utah and BYU lately. If I wanted to read about Utah, I would subscribe to the Tribune. If I wanted to read about BYU, I would subscribe to the Des News. I want to read about Weber and local teams, that is why I read the Standard. If the Standard no longer wants to represent Weber/Northern Utah, then I guess I should suspend my subscription.

As for injuries, usually in the Game Notes there is a section that looks at the teams injuries. This week, it wasn't there. I heard that Wilcox and Bolen should be back this week, which would be good. We desperately need AJ back.

That's why I would like more info from Garside cause you can't count on the athletic department to do anything. We're down two starting offensive lineman and our only returning all-conference player looks to have been demoted, and you hear nothing from anyone. Sometimes it's too damn hard to be a Weber fan.

Scouting Weber State

Weber State has opened the year with losses at Arizona State (45-14), Sacramento State (42-31) and Stephen F. Austin (35-20) in addition to a home opening loss to No. 1 North Dakota State (24-7).

The Wildcats have struggled to contain opponents’ running attacks during the year, allowing 859 yards on the ground with teams averaging 214.8 yards per game and totaling 13 touchdowns. Big plays have also been costly to WSU as opponents have averaged 13.9 yards per catch in the passing game and have scored more points on fewer plays.

Weber State’s offense will have a familiar look to Southern Utah fans as former Thunderbird offensive coordinator Steve Clark is at the reins with a former BYU quarterback taking the snaps. Transfer Billy Green has totaled 1,046 yards in the air so far this season completing 106 passes on 181 attempts with two interceptions and five touchdowns.

Green’s favorite target has been wide receiver Shaydon Kehano with the senior leading the team in receptions (38), yards (393) and touchdowns (4). Running back Zach Smith has shouldered the load in the rushing game, leading the team with 58 attempts, 331 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Emmett Tela leads the team with 37 tackles, including a team-best 3.5 tackles for loss. Jake Gallegos has recorded half of the teams’ three sacks during the year and Josh Burton and Deon’tae Florence are tied for the team lead with one interception apiece.

The defense also has Southern Utah ties with former Thunderbird defensive coordinator Justin Ena now in charge of the Weber State side. The final tie to SUU resides in wide receiver coach Fesi Sitake who was a player and former coach for the Thunderbirds.

As long as the Cats hold onto the ball (HELL that would be amazing) they win this game. If they would have held onto the ball the last two games, they would have won those games too. Turnovers!! Ugh!! The last three games turnovers have killed the Cats. 7pts for NDSU, 10pts for Sac and 7 away from the Cats, which was the difference in that game, and finally last week, two TOs in the endzone negating 12pts which was the difference between SFA and the Cats. Weber could be 2-2 right now.
