SUU vs WSU - Sep 27

Bitter pill to swallow on this loss, but perhaps needed medicine...bye week next for Wildcats to lick their self-inflicted wounds & try to figure out how to cure the turnover fever they've been suffering. Dimmed hopes for this year...not hopeless yet, but almost halfway there to another lackluster season. :-(

I am frustrated to see this talented team not reach it's potential. We averaged 7.23 yards per offensive play, they averaged just 4.49. Our defensive front was simply punishing for a while. We had 7 sacks while our QB only went down twice. Those turnovers were unbelievable :ohno: . Was anyone at the game to see the goal-line takeaway or the 3rd town tipped pass which was ruled incomplete? Thankfully, the conference will likely enact replay beginning next year. This loss is painful but it's much better losing from freak turnovers than from the inability to move the ball. If the turnover margin is 3 and not 4, we win the game. I like this team a lot and as long as they keep improving, I will keep watching.

Billy Green is not the answer at QB we have a bye week this week we need to look at our other QBS. Green is terrible in the red zone and at the end of games he makes terrible decisions it is so frustrating does anybody know what the health of Jadrian Clark is. I came down to Cedar City to watch and am terrible disappointed the turnovers need to stop.

This is the type of thing people start feeling when you don't win games but I disagree. Terrible decisions at the end of games? I would way rather see him throw it up to the corner of the end zone than take a sac and let the clock run out. Green is clearly the leader we need. He has single handedly kept us in games at times when we can't run the ball. I think he isn't far behind the pace for most passing yard in our program's history.

Billy Green should have put that last pass deeper in the end zone. Otherwise he had a great game with some nice touchdown passes. It's a shame the officials gave into the SUU booing and gave them every call at the end. We appeared to be down on the goal line fumble, we appeared to catch the tipped ball and the roughing the passer call was a joke. Can anyone at the game weigh in on these calls? I just wish I was there to yell back at the officials.

Overall I love this team and they are fun to watch! Now let's get a win for homecoming!

To the guy that says we need to bench Green, you are absolutely nuts. Green is the best QB we got right now, and if the coaches thought Clark was better, you bet your ass he would be in the game.

I was at the game, I was actually on the sideline for the tipped pass play. The goal line fumble and the tipped ball catch were both bad calls IMO. Roughing the passer call was bad too, but there were a couple roughing the passer calls against SUU that were semi-BS also.

I was at the game last night as well. Billy Green has at least three interceptions in the end zone in the last two weeks. They bring in Leckington near the goal line that speaks volumes on how the coaching staff feels about Green in the red zone. Also look at the play calling in the red zone very few passes and last night we had 1st and 20 and ran it three straight times to kick a field goal speaks volumes in my opinion

Green got shaken up on the "roughing the passer" call on SUU when Leckington was brought in. I think Green is really good and will probably be one of the best WSU qb's by the time he is done. Remember he is only a sophomore. He threw for 371 yards and 3 tds along with his 2 picks yesterday. I don't know how much of a game it would have been without him.

I think this season is playing out like most expected. The team is getting better, but in reality they were never going to win a lot of games this year. I know it's hard to be patient as fans, but last year's team was epically bad. It will take more than a few transfers to get competitive in the big sky again. By the time Green is a senior, I think they might be there.

I think the finger pointed at the red zone play calling is justified, but Green is doing just fine. A Soph QB in a new program with a new coaching staff is bound to generate some miscues. Honestly, I'm more upset with the fumble-fingers so far this year and the O-line not being able to open up the run. The pass protection has been pretty good but they cannot seem to open holes and make the blocks needed to effectively run except for when they occasionally break one outside.

Green and the pass game has been quite effective, and I'm wondering why they are consistently trying to run off-guard on 3rd and short-- news flash: it's not working; it hasn't worked all season. I thought we'd seen the last of that strategy when Hammer left. I am quite frustrated at this point but still hopefull for a good rest of the way. This loss was tough but I'll take it and every other one this year over the past two horrific years.

Before the season started, all I wanted from this team was for it to be competitive. So far, Weber has definitely been that. However, and let's be honest with ourselves here. Weber could very easily be 4-1 if it weren't for silly mistakes, dumb penalties, and the turnovers. This team is soooo close to turning things around and becoming a really good football team. But, they haven't learned how to do the little things, and until they do that, every Monday is going to be the same thing, a time to look back and imagine what could have been. Weber beat Weber on Saturday night. SUU isn't very good. Weber was by far the better team. Same thing should be stated about the Sacramento State loss. Weber lost that game because of mistakes and turnovers. Weber was the better team. The game against SFA should have been a lot closer, but turnovers and penalties undid the Wildcats chances in that game too. Weber keeps beating Weber. The Cats aren't losing games, they are giving them away. SUU should never have won that game. Weber should have beaten the T-Birds by three TDs at least. Because of TO's they got 17 points and the Cats lost two scoring opportunities (TDS).

On a side note, and I'm sure SUU fans would agree with this...those refs should NEVER be allowed to ref another game again. The Conference needs to institute replay NOW. Terrible calls all over the field on Saturday night. The refs were out of position and were making calls. Zach's "fumble" on the 2 was total BS. Only way he fumbles that ball is because of the ground. He was tripped up and the ref making the call was 5 yards behind the action. On replay, you can totally see that he doesn't lose the ball until after he hit the ground. That was killer for the Cats. Don't even get me started on the "Tipped-Pass"!!

Final thought...Green is the man. Yes, his redzone INT's hurt, but he is young. Zach caused a fumble on a fake handoff, Green picks up the ball and throws a 64 yard TD. Without Green, the Cats aren't just bad, but terrible. I hate to say this, and I really appreciate his work ethic and desire, but Clark is probably the Cat's fourth best QB right now. There is a reason why Leckington is the backup.

Talking to these guys after a loss is getting harder and harder. You can see the frustration in their face, and hear it in their voices. Hill isn't happy. Here's the post game interview with Hill, Green and Tela:

I said this on my way back from Cedar City, but the future of this team, particularly the offense, is very bright. As has been stated on this thread, Billy Green is only a sophomore. Sure he has four picks in the last two games, but he'l turn into something great over time. Zach Smith is a sophomore, and that guy is a tank. He's a got a great running back coach in Quinton Ganther, who played for seven years in the NFL. Smith is 100% bought into to what Ganther says, and it's showing. Cam Livingston is also a sophomore and can fill the void once Kehano takes off after this season. Offensively, Weber will be a force to be reckoned with in big way.

Now about that defense.....

Couple things, where was Florence? How is Tui? Why isn't Bo playing more, to me, he should at least be playing in the slot or as a receiving TE, kinda like Nakamura did a few years ago?

Okay, so, yes, I thoroughly agree with you that Weber will be an offensive juggernaut for the next few years. The Cats need to keep the OL healthy, strong, fast, and big. After that, Weber has great skill players. Green is a fairly remarkable athlete and is an amazing QB. The freshman receiver Batchelor had a hell of a game on Sat. Yet, I think our defense has a lot of potential and will only get better. The Cats lose four guys on defense (Florence, Morris-Edwards, Martin, and Myers) and our young guys have been playing great. I think the Cats will become a defensive force. Tela is only a freshman.

Tui has a broken leg and is done for the year. Florence, I havnt heard anything on him yet. The future does indeed look bright and Green IS a legit QB and the best WSU has had in a few.

I was there. I concur with ALL of this. Very frustrating. There was also what appeared to be a horse-collar tackle by SUU, that was flagged and then "un-flagged." Sometimes the "12th man" isn't the hometown fans...

And they need someone who can run the damn game clock! Good gravy.

DID ANYONE NOTICE? AJ Wilcox was back at left tackle. SUU had two QB sacks for the day, with both coming when the SUU D.End schooled Wilcox and left him looking like he was standing in cement. I don't know, maybe Wilcox is not 100%, but we can't have that. The second sack came at a critical point in the game and put Weber out of FG range. Just can't allow things like that to happen and expect to win!

It's crazy how things have flipped since the SUU game in 2014... What the heck happened?

Ha!! Funny how things look a year later. Nice find wsucat! :thumb:

I stand by my assessment...Green is our best QB. I hope to see him starting on Saturday.

Hill wants to keep blaming the players for not executing, but the real blame should be on the coaching staff. We all knew last year would be a rebuild and the new offense and defense would take a bit to install. We saw real glimmers of hope from the offense early but as the year went on there were injuries to the line and the running backs, putting all the eggs on the passing game. It's not real hard for an opposing D to stop the passing game when there is no run game. It appears coach Hill is blaming Green for not getting it done last year and making him pay for it this year. All you have to do is look at the statistics from last year to now, to know how effective Green was as QB. Fast forward to today... Hill decided to make Clark the starter and went with him until giving Shaw an opportunity against UNC. His drive looked good so Hill decides this is the guy for the future. Granted Jadrian did struggle to get the offense moving in the SUU game, we were only down by 7. Shaw comes in and throws a pick six, Hill then comes back to him again to throw one more pick before the half. That decision, I believe not only cost us the game but he may have lost this team for the season. Coach Hill is trying to be HC, DC and OC. That kind of arrogance is what blows teams up and gets coach's fired. My guess is Hill is blaming coach Clark for the lack of production and makes him the fall guy soon. Hill has shown me so far that he is not yet capable of being a head coach. It's one thing to be a long time assistant coach, its another to show your mature and humble enough to be a HC. I feel sorry for all of the Weber QB's, with a head game playing coach like Hill. This is how they do it at UTAH by the way!

Interesting what type of perspective occurs after a year.

One thing stays consistent, Jadrian Clark should not be our starting quarterback. He is not good. What worries me about the coaching staff is that they can't recognize this simple fact. Clark is, at best, our third best quarterback on this team. Sit him down and let someone else lead this team.
