We'd just like to thank all our Bears Fans for attending today's game! Fan Fest was great, the crowd was awesome and it was a Homecoming VICTORY! :thumb:

We apologize for the issues with Big Sky TV. Again, as we continue to improve our gameday enhancements, this is another area we will continue to improve on. Again, we appreciate your patience and feel free to contact the department directly if you have any questions.

Most importantly, it was a great day to be a Bear and you were all a part of it! See you next Saturday!

Once the TV feed was up, it was a major upgrade over the old feeds. Better picture quality, replays, multiple camera angles. It was very well done. :thumb:

I overheard some discussions (complaints) in the stands this afternoon and thought I would throw them out there to see if you cared to elaborate on them. Why is the kids corner, in particular the bouncy castles, taken down 15-20 minutes prior to kick off? Why not leave them up the whole game or at least until kick off? Also, why are fans no longer able to sit in the grass behind the north end zone?

Overall, a perfect day for football and we couldn't have asked for a better outcome!

Yeah I have a question... really, is it that hard to get a feed up?

Blofeld,

Again, we understand your frustration. There are a variety of factors that go into the technical side of any of our events. As our new staff continues to get more comfortable and all our new equipment is in full swing, launching our Big Sky TV feed will not be the issue it has been in the past.

Some days there are technical issues beyond our control and there is major scramble to get them fixed as quickly as possible. This is a true statement for any institution and is certainly not limited to Northern Colorado. Big Sky TV is one of the many moving technical parts of game day.

We appreciate your patience!

Go Bears!

Blo, if the campus internet backbone has an issue, it can cause a lot of problems. That was the issue for our broadcast, never mind what it means for trying to get video online.

Out of curiosity, When did radio feeds begin to be delivered using internet technology? Prior to that, did they use phone lines? I really have no clue but it's interesting.

We're now the 7th year of using it for games, but have done some shows & out-of-studio stuff a bit longer than that. Our first attempt on games was at the Rainbow Classic, and our high school games are even done this way now, given the prevalence of 4g cellular.

Yes, phone lines were the main backhaul dating back to the first ever broadcasts. How those phone lines were used varied as technology improved. Heck, when I started broadcasting, we thought we were hot stuff to use a bag phone & adapters for road games. Shortly after that, ISDN became the standard for the big broadcasts, but modem-based codecs also began to be developed, which handled the lower caliber stuff.

I know I national company that oversees a number of collegiate team networks is pushing to have its schools use the same unit we now do. However, backups are encouraged ;) But, then, you get VOIP lines and that screws up using the backup codecs...Thank goodness for cellular hotspots, and the cell phone as a last ditch item. I did last year's New Mexico State game on cell, because their network & our unit didn't play nice and VOIP screwed up the backup.

Thanks Troy, that's pretty interesting. Your stand-ins need to learn your tricks of the trade, good job getting it back up and running.

No response? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it is the UNC Athletic Dept. were dealing with.

I live in Denver. Sorry, I need a reason to go to these crappy games... I try to get up there once a year but about the last decade it's been disapointing and not worth the time or effort.

One thing I learned about in UNC's Econ department is supply and demand. If you have a terrible product there won't be much demand... hence me not going...

Not sure how else I can explain this...

If you think about it, the answer's pretty simple for both of these:

You don't want people outside the stadium when the game is being played.

Again, sorry for the slow response. It's been a busy few weeks. The bottom line is that we DO want people in the stadium. As game day continues to grow, changes will continue that will enhance the experience.

I encourage you to call the department or email, if you need a prompt response. That is the best way to get in touch. While we monitor this site as best as we can, email/phone is a surefire way to communicate.

I agree Troy, you want people in the stadium during the game. So, why not leave the kids stuff up until kickoff? And the last I checked, the grass behind the north end zone is inside the stadium. So, I guess the answer isn't so simple.

My point is the athletic department is struggling to get fans out to these games (yesterday's attendance was 2,701  ). They raise ticket prices, put a bad product on the field, extend the contract of the Head Coach, put on a half a$$ "kids zone", tell paying customers they can't sit on a grass area for whatever reason, etc, etc, etc.....Then they wonder why so few attend the games. It's simple, you don't take care of your customers on or off the field.

And the last I checked, the grass behind the north end zone is inside the stadium. So, I guess answer isn't so simple.

Sorry, wasn't thinking about that grassy area. I thought you meant beyond the fence, the buffer between it & the parking lot.

However, the kids zone thing still comes down to wanting people in their seats before the national anthem.

I appreciate the feedback Troy. But the bottom line is you want fans in the stadium. It shouldn't matter if the fans are in their seats or not. As long as they've purchased tickets why does it matter what their doing during the game. Move the kids zone inside the fence and leave it up the whole game, problem solved.

There's a reason other sporting venues have different things going on inside their stadium during the actual event...they're trying to create the best game day experience for all their customers. If you have a poor product on the field you need to make it up (or at least try) off the field. The Rockies are a great example of this and have a higher than average attendance. Why do 30,000 people show up at Coors Field nearly every night? I know I don't go to Coors Field to watch quality baseball.

Why not sell grass seating behind the north end zone at a discounted price? A four pack family plan for $20.00 a game?
