The Coaching Search begins...

Good to hear the AD is getting after it as quickly as he can. We don't want to lose any of our recruits during the process. Also, gotta make sure the players are being taken care of. Yesterday, at the Coaches Luncheon, I was hoping to corner Bovee and ask him some questions about the process, possible candidates, and such, but he wasn't there. Probably for the best, if you ask me. I'm sure there were a number of other people wanting to do the same thing.

Yeah, it would be stupid to wait around on this. They will have a new coach within 10 days. Mark my words.

Ten days would be Dec. 3rd, they could introduce the coach at our next men's basketball game that night. Has anyone heard anything? Seen any potential canidates up at WSU for interviews? Has Urban Meyer been contacted since, he doesn't have a deal with Ohio yet, lol.

Haha. Yeah, I can imagine the university will be very tight-lipped until the announcement is officially made.

Sacramento State: Sources tell us Weber State offensive coordinator Matt Hammer interviewing for same position at Sac State

Sacramento State: We hear head coach Marshall Sperbeck is interviewing a small number of candidates for offensive coordinator. Sperbeck called it himself this season.

Matt is getting nervous, he knows he probably wont be here when we hire our new coach.

Don't know how accurate this is but interesting to see Beau Baldwin's name.

"Weber State: Names to watch (guys that have interviewed or that the AD would like to interview): Beau Baldwin HC at Eastern Washington, Kyle Gillenwater DC at James Madison, Brian Wright OC at Montana State and DeLane Fitzgerald HC at Southern Virginia...and several current and former members of the BYU staff."

I really liked the interview clips of Baldwin during the season as EWU had their losses - kept a great perspective for the players because he believed in them. That said, I really hate the idea of ever bringing a HC from your own conference. Especially, from a team you should have beaten. I think we need to step up not sideways. Glad to hear some names mentioned here, keep em coming as you hear them.

Baldwin wouldn't be a step sideways. The dude just won a national championship for hell sakes, and he did a remarkable job piecing together a completely injury devastated team this year to have a respectable season, including a win over Weber. I'd take the guy in a minute, but I really don't think he would even consider it (unless maybe Weber could offer him much more cash, which isn't going to happen because it's Weber State).

"Weber State: Sources tell us the AD is aiming high in this search. We have learned that a highly successful former NFL head coach is coming in for a tour tomorrow. [Like this strategy]"

Jim Fassel?

i still think Don Eck is the right fit at the right time but I hear Coach Mac is not happy with the process at this point.

also, word on the street is that the entire team is being drug tested, last night and today? what's up with that? i remember years ago at a Montana game, that there were 2-4 players singled out, but the whole team? maybe that's just a rumor, but some of the players have been mentioning it.

Maybe it will be Marty Shottenheimer

The AD and the administration HAS to do what is best for the university and the program. They need to find a HC who can recruit, get the most out of his recruits, continue taking the program to the next level, bring in and develop quality assistants, and ensure that our APR is high.

I might be wrong, but I have heard that drug-testing is now part of the NCAA process. Can the compliance guy verify if I'm right or wrong? As for testing...If you are clean, who cares. It shouldn't be a big deal. Give them a cup of piss and move on.

As for Beau Baldwin...Yes he has shown interest. From a buddy, I heard that he wasn't treated too well by Eastern after winning an NC. Huh?? Okay...that's smart. Yikes!! Anyway, also, let's look at his assets. We know he can recruit. Look at the calibre of player he has brought into Cheney Washington? Weber has better facilities, is a better school, and is in a far better location. Imagine...

Also... the AD, has been traveling around quite a bit lately. Lets see...he has made stops in the Northwest, Arkansas, Vegas, and Virginia. There is a lot of interest in this position. Lets hope the school can get some more $$$ for coaches salaries, recruiting, and facilities. So that the next HC can take the program to that "coveted" next level.

Virginia? I can guess who he visited in the other areas, but not sure who is in Virginia. I guess I will have to wait and see.......

you're right, we have to look at where the program needs to be and build for that. more $$$ for coaches will help create some stability within the ranks. good luck to Bovee and company....

Bovee best not make the PSU mistake and think NFL automatically spells success. Remember Jerry Glanville. He has a great mind for football but did he have what it takes to succeed on the FCS DI College Football Level? No.. Like PSU, WEBER is not an NFL team. Weber's new coach has to be able to RECRUIT. Not only players, but up and coming assistant coaches. He needs to have a list of potential assistants who can help keep the program moving forward.

Fassell is not that man. Yes, he coached in the college ranks, but that was almost 20 years ago. At Utah he wasn't able to move the program forward. It was static. I like the guy, but I'm pretty sure he isn't the man for the job.

The NCAA tests a random sample once per semester when they come on campus and at all NCAA championship events (why the people were tested at Montana in the playoffs).

The student-athletes all consent to WSU's drug-testing procedure as a condition for participation in athletics. It's perfectly legal, and there are a number of reasons that we do it.

Weber Compliance, THANKS for posting :thumb: I love to read your posts. They are full of very useful information.

I would absolutely love to see Baldwin on the sidelines in Ogden. As previously mentioned, this guy can recruit and coach. Here's hoping!! :-D

Also, I will be praying that Suck picks Hammer for the OC job. :stir:
