The Montanas at WSU - Feb 21-23

Thursday - Montana at WSU - 2 for 1 tickets

Saturday - Montana State at WSU - Mascot Night

Does anyone and will anyone even know about these 2 promotions?

Any thoughts on the rest of our season? If PSU continues to win which likely they will...would you rather see us get 2nd or 3rd?

I would rather be 3rd, that way we get another home game...although that means 3 games in the Big Sky Tourney opposed to getting 2nd place and only having to play 2 games.

If we beat the Montanas at home and NAU on the road we can still finish 11-5.

So if we win out and PSU loses a few do we have a chance to host? That means we split with PSU and NAU. But PSU swept NAU. So would we not host no matter what?

Big Sky Tournament:

Top 6 teams in the conference make it to the post season. 3 teams will be left out.

March 8:
#6-seed @ #3-seed and #5-seed @ #4-seed

March 11: (Altitude) - Game at hosting school
Highest remaining seed vs #1-seed
Lowest remaining seed vs #2-seed

March 12: (ESPN2) - Game at hosting school
Big Sky Championship

I was emailing our Director of Basketball Operations and below was one of his replies. His name is Phil Beckner for those who do not know. He is a pretty cool guy! I think everyone is noticing our mark/promotions needs help!

Email:

I'm sure plenty of people at our distinguished school has plenty of ideas and this is the issue: that people at Weber State don't care and won't help out the people that do care.

Let's get the purple pak some of these ideas for this week for the games. is it too late? what abou those signs around campus? we need them!

With only two games left this year at the Dee, unless we host a 1st round game I think this year is shot as far as correcting our marketing department.

I would suggest a joint task force to work in conjuction with the marketing department, made up from student leaders (esp. purple pak leaders), community leaders, athletic department, alumni association, and any other true wildcats. 1 meeting a month to discuss WSU events how to market the promotions and submit ideas, new promotions, etc.

I spoke with Randy Rahe yesterday at Fat Cat's after his weekly show. He is disapointed in the attendance this year, did not blame the marketing department said "it is what it is" and that wins should bring in the fans. Obviously that has not happened. I for one am done sitting idlely by watching our teams play in a 3/4 empty arena, football and basketball. We need to re-schedule our meeting with the marketing department and soon. I will send out some emails to Kim and the others suggesting we meet this Friday. I will keep everyone posted if it is a go. Unfortunately next week I will be out of town on a business trip so if this Friday won't work I will not be able to make it until the following week.

Time to Rally around the Troops.

wsucatfan,

You have good ideas! Rahe and the team don't deserve to be this good and have no one see it!!

Maybe Rahe should take a better job somewhere else where fans can appreciate having a competitive team every year because our fans sure don't!!

I'm not sure that our fans approve of Rah'e winning ways...his success!

If we don't do something about it he just might leave. I don't want that to happen, I enjoy the way he teaches the players to play as a team.

I would come to this meeting. Just keep me posted. Coach Rahe is the man, and we can't lose him. See everyone at the game on Thursday!

The part that sucks is he came from years at USU...the best student section and basketball fan support in the state...their students are even becoming known nationaly.

Half the stadium is full of students every game. Even if we could get more students that is all we need. We need students more than just 'mute' people in stands.

If we could get 2-3,000 per game we would have a sweet home court advantage.

Bengalhater,

Do the students know about our bball program and the fact that we are good almost every year? We need more of them at the games. Did word not get around in November that we beat Utah State?

Like I said earlier, I was at the career fair recuiting students and I did not see a single poster with the schedule on it. I think most students don't even know that there is a game this Thursday or Saturday night.

There was a marketing group for a while composed of Campus Rec, Student Govt, Student Activities, Athletics, Marketing, and Alumni. I was on it for two years while I worked for Campus Rec. It was a great idea, but it was so short lived that nothing came of it. I don't know why it still isn't being done, maybe it actually took coordination and team work... in other words you actually had to work, thats kinda a novelty at Weber State.
Ideas to get students at the game: Flyer Cars, Put up Paper Signs all over campus most importantly in the Union (you can find huge paper rolls in the student gov't offices), Get the wooden signs back up (all you have to do is change the date and opponent don't redo the signs, there isn't TIME!!!), get a DJ to play and make announcements on campus, sell shirts in the Union at lunch, tell all the student organizations (Call Officers and Email All MEMBERS; create a competition!!) Get Athelets to help hand out flyers to students around campus and in their classes, write it on the boards in the class rooms or get some type of sign in a noticeable area in the class room (use extra-large paper), Chalk up campus, Write on the Dorm windows, tell the signpost to print a Full-Page Ad on Wed and Again on Friday, Get the DJ's at 88.1 to announce it on the radio, Call X96 or other radio stations and ask for some free coverage, put up signs at areas business (especailly where students eat and support Weber State), write it on your car windows and get as many students and officers to help you, wear T-shirts with the games and times on them, Get a bball hoop out in front of the Union and have small pick up games (3 on 3, horse, or lightning) and tell everyone about the games and give out stuff, Go to the Davis Campus and do any of the above or the North Campus, Put out a mass email to the student body attached as urgent, Announce a Purple-Out, Invite everyone in your classes and tell those who are going to the games to do the same, Picket out in front of Campus with signs and flags, Hell I've got more.... JUST DO SOMETHING!!!

If Purple Pak or someone could get a table and sell 6th Man shirts in the Union these next couple days, I'd devote an hour or two helping out...I bet it'd help.

It is funny, I get a mass email weekly or more from Jennifer Grandi, Assistant Dean of Students for everything going on at WSU-Davis. Why can't they do the same thing for everything going on up at the main campus, not just athletics, movies, plays, any event like Jennifer does?

Here is one of her emails for anyone that doesn't get them:

Great Game... until I missed my free throw for the diamond ring. D-Will's dunks were amazing. Now we need to close out our last home game by kicking around the bobcats saturday night.

Also while I was down on the court I talked with Ben Huppi, he is going to try and make it. He also wants to meet with me and the students you fans, about what we think. We will have to try and set something up in a few weeks or so.
