The PAC/MWC Dominoes Begin to Fall

Guess we won't be seeing you in the BW then
I'm guessing that it could be like a football only invite to something like Conference USA, which won't affect the Big West for the other sports. Conference USA seems to be an entry level destination for teams moving to FBS. While it stretches across the country from Texas to Florida it wouldn't be a deal breaker for football since they fly charter and there would only be 4-5 road games a year. Might actually help our recruiting exposing the program to a lot of talented potential recruits in the southwest and Florida.

Plus it would explain why there are only 2-3 opponents inked for ‘26, gotta keep it open for 8-9 conference games.

But will Sam Houston, Missouri State and W. Kentucky draw 40,000 fans to CE stadium? Exchange these three with the argument of ‘obscure Big Sky’ and ‘nothing in common’ opponents.

While I wouldn’t like being in Conference USA cause that doesn’t give the program games against California schools. I would be happy to be FBS with an option to schedule home and homes against some MWC and PAC-12 schools with Davis as the lone FCS. I think Wood Just needs something to come out of all this now though.

"Part of a new FBS conference." Dr. Wood was either being vague or clumsy.

All FBS conferences require at least eight full members. If Sac State is needed to be that 8th member for say, the UAC which is seeking eventual FBS designation, then they jump in all sports.

Conference USA currently has 12 members in all sports. They are scheduled to lose UTEP to the MW and Louisiana Tech to the Sun Belt. They would still have 10 members enough to be a valid conference. They could add Sac State and Tarleton State the two FCS schools looking to move to FBS to fill in. Tarleton being in Texas is within the conference's footprint and would be a good add for all sports. Sac State is far outside the conference's footprint, closest school would be New Mexico State. I don't know the Conference's policy about adding single sport members but logistically it's clearly not in either CUSA or Sac State's interest to park all sports in CUSA. To get the conference exposed to the California Media Market and Pacific time zone would be a plus for CUSA and an invite to a FBS football conference would be a plus for Sac State.
I don't think the NCAA would allow any "new" FBS Conferences, maybe Dr. Wood was referring a conference other than the PAC12 or MWC.
