Time for Changes

Wonder if Parker has been retained because he is under contract? They couldn't just let him go and carry two $80K+ DC salaries. His biggest weakness, IMO, as a DC was the secondary, why make him a position coach in that area?

Also wonder if Parker knew the axe was going to fall before the UCFE game? We got blasted in that game, from what I was able to stomach, we were woefully unprepared on both sides of the ball that day.

Looks like the other name I brought up, Larry Kerr of LAVC, was hired by UNCO to be the bears' DC.

Were any of the defenses he was a part of any good? Specifically when he was an assistant HC or DC?

Yes, they were respectable. He 2nd stint at Colo St, the D wasn't the problem. The O was pretty vanilla, IIRC. L.A. Valley College has over a dozen nearby JUCOs to compete for players with. Also its close proximity to L.A. Pierce College I feel definitely affects them even more.

I brought up his name on this board because of his experience in the two areas where the hornets could immediate help. His resume is a very respectable one in that regard. I think Collins snatched him up b/c of his familiarity with the states of CO and CA. I think that the bears needed a direct pipeline to CA for recruiting and Kerr is person to open that.

Collins and the UNC staff are by far the worst in the BSC. Their only win last year was against NAIA Langston despite having some pretty good athletes. This has to be Collin's last season, maybe Kerr thinks he can be the right place to be named the new HC.

That's the speculation on the UNCO board. You would think that UNCO would have the commence sense to hire Paul Wristen from nearby CSU-Puelo if Collins and Co. failed again this season.

The Wristen possibility has been floated by UNC fans especially after he beat them. Either he is happy at Pueblo, don't want to get involved in the UNC mess or is waiting for a better opportunity, he don't seem interested.
The UNC staff looks like it is very poorly organized, they seem to have trouble communicating with each other.

It does sound like it could possibly be a administration problem. From what I've gathered on their board, the AD and administration want only "UNCO" men to lead their program. That does ring messy to me.

Another defensive change has been announced.

North Dakota: Sources tell us that Sacramento State defensive line coach Jordan Gigli will join the North Dakota staff in the same capacity.

Sound Familiar? Cal Coach Sonny Dykes did exactly the same thing as Coach Sperbeck, demoted his DC, and fired his DL and DB coaches. Ironically Randy Stewart the DB coach was the same guy a single topic poster kept promoting as a replacement for Sperbeck last fall. Small world!

Per the article:
Cal confirmed Buh will continue to be paid according to the terms of his contract, which calls for a $500,000 annual salary. That contract, which guarantees him a total of $1 million through the end of the 2015 season, may have been the reason Buh was reassigned and not fired.
I wonder if similarly this is why Sperbeck is hanging onto Parker. Just wonderful.

It's possible but I've always heard that the assistants are on yearly contracts. It would certainly be interesting to find out for sure.

I tweeted Football Scoop asking about the hornet DC situation and this is what was replied:

Jody Sears (former HC at Weber St). Done deal [/quote]

If true, I wonder why it wasn’t announced. Can’t see what there is to lose/gain by keeping this quiet during the closing days leading up to National LOI day.

Cons: Took over a stable situation at Weber and completely ran it into the ground as HC (Of course the JL Smith to Arkansas thing could have played in to that as well). Any WSU posters trolling this thread care to add on?

Pros: Has D1 experience, knows the BSC, with those two in mind I would like to believe he has some inroads to some areas for recruiting. We know he isn’t HC material so him leaving to take over another program is very unlikely (in the short term at least).

Per the WSU media guide (I appreciate our efforts and funds spent on the media guide even more after digging through WSU’s media guide, wow):
  • 2 years at Army as assistant coach (’00-’02)
5 years at EWU as DC (’03-’07)
    3 years at Wazzu as co-DC (’08-’11)
2 years at WSU as HC (’12-’13)

Haven’t had time to look how those defenses performed while he was there. We’ll see how this works out, hard to believe a more experienced coach than Sears applied for the DC job here.
