Time for Changes

I have heard the whole defensive staff has been let go... Except Parker who has been demoted to DBs coach.
Can’t see much of an issue with letting go of the whole defensive staff. The D was a complete joke this season and wasn’t much better last season. If a complete overhaul is true, the issue now becomes can Sperbeck fill out an entire D staff in time to salvage recruiting.

Makes no sense to retain Parker. It was his defense, he owns it and he should be chucked out the door with it. Probably would have made more sense for Sperbeck to send him packing, then bring in a new DC and let him decide which current D coaches are a fit for the new system. Regardless I hope we see some movement with the new hires soon.

Sperbeck has promised Parker a spot on the defensive staff...everyone else has been put on notice to start looking for other employment opportunities. The new coordinator is going to be allowed to bring in his own guys.

We'll see how this all shakes out in due time. Keeping Parker makes no sense any way you slice it. :ohno:

From the bio it looks like most of his experience is working with DBs. Maybe he's a effective DB back coach who was just promoted past his current skill set and experience. He was also the special teams coordinator before being named DC in 2010. Maybe the plan is DBs/ Special Teams Coordinator?

If he did a good job with the DBs and Special Teams before I'm OK with it. My only concern is that there might be some resentment between him and the new DC. Who knows maybe he's OK with it and will easily adjust to his new role. Time will tell!

Parker was the ST coordinator for one season, just like Kelley so same amount of experience. Southern Utah loses the OC and WR coach

I think they are just making a change. Almond is still on campus along with Parker. Two changes with Gigli and Roberson out. Would not be surprised if Parker ends up somewhere else. The question is where will Peterson end up. Can we hang on one more year. I don't think he would go back to Southern Utah

Almond is by far the worst coach on the staff. Keeping Parker makes no sense at all, you can't demote... It simply doesn't work. Much like when we let Baiz go for Parker. Bring back Johnny o!

Ok since we will not get off this

QB- Ricky Ray
OL- Johnnie O
RB - Charles Roberts
TE- Chrris Kelly
WR - Amey
DL - zach Nash
LB- Cyrus Mutalo
DB - Ramon Payne
ST - Paxton
HC- volek

All the NFL experience and elite Hornets. We would dominate.

OH23, you dullard!!! My 2014 staff list is far superior...

QBs - Marcel Marquez
RBs - Travon Jones/Curtis Shaw
OL - David Born
WR/TEs - Bobby Mooshagian
DBs - Kyle Monson
LBs - Lou Baiz
Special Teams - Jason Diniz

Review of Staff
Paul Peterson
Bill Laveroni
Aaron Ingram
Fred Kelly
Tyler almond
Anthony Parker
Marshall Sperbeck

I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on current staff.

I am a HS coach that has attended a few games this season. I did see some good things and wish they could pull the games out.
I do not know much about these guys on staff but I have met coach Sperbeck and Kelly. Kelly has come by the school during the spring and fall. I saw him speak at the Reno clinic last year, one of the best talks I have ever seen. Was on the O Line and run game, not special teams. Peterson did a good job as well. He seems to have a good hold on the offense. Would like to see them run the ball a little more, could help the defense. I haven't met any other parts of the staff.

Since you asked...
Peterson has done a good job, IMO. It appears that Marshall takes over sometimes and gets conservative.
Don't know much about Laveroni except that he has a bunch of experience. Does experience and a lot of years under your belt translate into being able to communicate and gain the respect of young men? Don't know.
Ingram. The final holdover from Foothill JC days. Not sure if this is good or bad or if Marhsall turns to him as a trusted soldier to check what other coaches are telling him.
Kelley. Nice guy that was put in a bad place this year with special teams. Young coach that could be a good coach with the right training and mentoring and some sound advice.
Almond. No comment.
Parker. Changed things up when he was brought in as DC, but seemed to have trouble communicating what he wanted done. Was his scheme too complex for the other coaches and players to understand and grasp?
Marshall. Nice guy that has done some great things for the program. Could it be that he has not taken the program farther since he appears to be happy/comfortable here and has no aspirations outside of Sacramento?

Just my thoughts as a long time Hornet fan that would like to see a kick-ass team in the league that is not from Montana or Washington. We have the athletes but can't seem to get over the hump.
