Time to lower season expectations

Hard to see EWU going deep in the playoffs with this defense.

Sad part is an "average" defense would make this a fantastic season.

I had that feeling as well...BUT there is still a lot of football to play and with evan day and Pulu still coming back we are only going to get better.
Question though I am a big Hamlin fan..but he looks slower this year ..am I off base on this one?

Wow folks, we are 5-1, and there is a lot of football left to play. Today almost every top 10 team was put on the ropes with some upsets. There is no reason to go off the deep end.

MSU just squeaked out a win against the team ISU trucked last week with a last minute TD with 5 seconds left in the game.

In both FCS and FBS, there were a lot of close games and crazy losses. Whereas last week was very lackluster in the FCS top 25, this week was chaos!

Yeah, lets pump the brakes here. ISU has a playoff caliber offense; we won't see an offense that good until maybe the quarters or semis. If that team has an average or better defense, we will lose. But lots of games to be played before then, and we will get some players back. Everyone left on our regular season schedule either has a terrible to average offense, and most also have a terrible defense, which means we will boat race them. Only Montana and UND have a good defense, but both also have terrible offenses. I still think we finish 11-1 and get the #2 seed.

I feel like I read a similar line after every terrible game by our D.

There is no doubt Idaho State is the real deal and should have a great shot at anyone they play from here on out. But we'll see better offenses in the playoffs and will need to have some answers other than just getting mowed.

The good news is that no one we play from now until the end of the regular season has an offense like Montana State or Idaho State. The bad news is that it doesn't look like a team needs much of an offense to score a lot on us.

Dude, they played actually good teams. ;) That said, at least we didn't suffer this fate today:

WSU stops themselves again from the 4 with over a minute... sad doesn't sum it up

3rd and GOAL
Quentin Breshears field goal attempt from 19 MISSED, clock 00:19.

3rd and GOAL
Timeout WASHINGTON ST, clock 00:19.

2nd and GOAL
Gerard Wicks rush for loss of 1 yard to the Cal2, clock 00:25.

1st and GOAL
Gerard Wicks rush for 3 yards to the Cal1, clock 01:04.

I've always set my expectations low.

I've been overachieving my entire life!

I thought 9-3 to start the season. We're ahead of schedule.

You go ahead and lower yours. I'm keeping mine right where it is.

Yeah, the defense can't find its way yet, but I don't see the coaches and players giving up on fixing it. In the meantime, we have likely the best offense in the FCS, certainly the Big Sky. That obviously wins games, maybe enough to buy the D the time it needs to square itself away for a deep run. BSC championship? FCS championship? Don't' know... But at least I'm staying on the wagon for the ride.

Haters, see you next season. Feel free to come back next year and and start your bitching all over again about whatever ails you. You remember... Just like when you bailed during 2010.

Time for a nice meltdown thread or two from 2010.

I don't know, maybe after this season we need a few good old fashioned losing seasons. This fan base is getting way too greedy. Quit being afraid to have some damn faith in your team and if they let you down... so what? You will survive. Support your team like a real Eagle.

I seriously doubt they're are any haters on this board. And I'm not sure who bailed out in 2010. The only people on this board in 2010 were hardcore fans.

LOL at this little quip

Obzerver is right. The coaches are going to fall on the sword for BLM. They'll play him until he gets hurt.
They'll play him game after game with the hopes that at SOME point, he has a good game or a break out game - that he'll FINALLY get to where we all want him to be and where the team NEEDS him to be. But there will not be a QB change this year, because most of all, the coaches don't want egg on their face for their choice to begin with. At this level, it SHOULD be about wins and losses, but we made a "deal" and we're going to have to live with it.

Just so there's no confusion when RockTheRed said he agreed with me...this is what I said.

"Need not get to overly excited about any forthcoming QB change. BLM is our QB this season and it's up to Baldwin to "right the ship" which is more than QB play. Lotta games left in the BSC to play and we need 7 DI wins...per usual we'll prolly have to run the table here soon to get into the playoffs..nothing new."

For a fan base, expecting an 11-1 season was high but certainly reasonable. However, expecting us to waltz through the schedule was not reasonable. Our pre season #1 ranking I think made people (fans) think we were going to blow everyone out. Winning is what's important and I'm glad our coaches and players didn't have the expectation that they were going to breeze through the schedule. Keep in mind that, with the exception of UW, playing us this season is circled on every other team's calendar as their super bowl. We get the best of very good teams. It's best if us fans leave the X's and O's to the coaching staff and players who haven't lost a BSC game for two years. I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing. They're fun to watch so enjoy the ride and embrace the fact that you're getting your money's worth on the ticket price and other donations you have made.
