Time to lower season expectations

Yeah, the defense can't find its way yet, but I don't see the coaches and players giving up on fixing it. In the meantime, we have likely the best offense in the FCS, certainly the Big Sky. That obviously wins games, maybe enough to buy the D the time it needs to square itself away for a deep run. BSC championship? FCS championship? Don't' know... But at least I'm staying on the wagon for the ride.

Couldn't have said it better! I so remember those 2010 heart attack games and telling my son and his friends as they came off the field that they were killing us with the suspense. They would always grin and say "Never a doubt!" Then I'd read stuff on the forum and just shake my head.

I think you're wrong about that. Most, if not all EWU fans on this board really, really want to see this team play well in every phase of the game. Those who express frustration about the D have some very legitimate gripes. You want to see a hater, go read egriz a time or two, and see how some of members slam their team and fans. I don't see that on here. Instead, I see some different opinions from people who really care about how this team performs.

Most people are "Monday morning QB's, coaches, DB's, etc" so to speak, or people who will criticize or rave about the performance of their team after the game. That's part of the enjoyment of it. If we all agreed all the time about everything, it'd be pretty dang boring. But lumping everyone who has a negative criticism of some element of the football team as a hater is just not accurate. I would rather see multiple sides to the discussion.

And for what it's worth, I've been critical of certain things with this team, including BLM in his days. But I've never been a hater. Hope that helps demonstrate their is a distinction.

I'd argue people trying to paint this team as dominant simply based off a 5-1 record are being a little bit of a Pollyanna, or an apologist for the obvious deficiencies. Calling people who note their frustration with the problems as "haters" is equally as divisive. The people on this board are the ones who are likely the most active in the Eagle community: giving money, buying tickets and merchandise, and generally promoting the program whenever possible. That doesn't sound like a "hater" to me.

This is big boy football, and criticism is to be expected when the performances aren't sound. And anyone who wants to argue that our defense looks solid right now has no legs to stand on. I doubt there's a person here who doesn't want this team to come together and kick ass down the stretch. I hope everyone saying the defense is on the up-and-up are dead-on right, I just don't see it as of yet.
