What's with the anti-women's basketball sentiment on this board?

I once heard Ogden Godfather say "I would not care if we won 20 straight Big Sky women's basketball titles or went 0-20 for the next 10 years. Now volleyball that is another story...especially during the golden era aka the Legend of Al Givens...a truley skilled recruiter"
I stand by my statement :agree: :+1: The only womens sports I care about are Volleyball and Foxxy Boxxing

Godfather;

I respect your opinion, but I don't share it. I have coached both young men and women. I had some, on both sides, who went on to earn athletic scholorships. The game is, fundamentally, the same. The girls don't dunk as often and a slightly lesser percentage of their play is above the rim, but that is it. In many respects the women play a more team oriented game than the men do. When things break down, men will often relly on their athleticism, where women will look to their team mates. I enjoy athletics of all kinds, and basketball in particular. Basketball is a beautiful game. Women playing it doesn't make it any less so. :twocents:

i was in shock when Al was canned. What was WSU thinking? Al was a great guy and indeed he had a keen eye for talent. when i was a student i went to wsu vball games. i didnt go to womens bball games even when they hosted and won the big sky. i do not mean any offense by that i just couldnt make it at the time. supporting mens bball and football is very time consuming. i dont think its offensive to say we dont have time or budget left over for other sports. :coffee:

Uh you are full of crap. You went to the last championship game hosted by the lady Cats in 03. There is footage of you and me from one of the local news stations, acting like wanks, after the Lady Cats came roaring back in the second half to win the title.

CT must give Bengalhater credit for that victory. It was virtually orchestrated by his Weber State chant to get the crowd into the game.

I for one would like to see them win. I don't go to the games or anything, but hell they wear the purple and white so we should want them to win. It is absolutley embarrassing that they went 0er this season. Ord should be gone. She is a terrible coach. Kinda reminds me of Larry Farmer. Just because she coached at Louisville doesn't mean she can be a head coach.

Because it's boring, un-athletic, a waste of time. That includes watching any of the ncaa women's championship contending teams = Snooze Fest.

You realize that those from the Power Conferences say the exact same thing about BSC men's basketball?

Just because its a step down in talent doesn't make it boring or nonathletic.

I have gone to a women's basketball game back when they were good, and it was the last one I went to, it was boring, the team was good, they won the game, but I couldn't get into the game at all. So I don't go to them.

Thats my story, but it doesn't just end at Weber's women's team, I don't like Women's ball period. No I'm not sexist either, cause my liking of mens basketball starts and ends with college.

According to my wife I already spend waaaay too much time watching and following sports. The last thing I need to do is add women's basketball to the list.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to ask that! Actually it was kind of a jab as a response to these:

For what it's worth though, I love fans of other teams posting theirn team's stuff on our board. If it's cool, post it so others can see it.
Ahhh. I see. Well, you have to understand we kind of have a hard-on for Damian Lillard around here. Even my wife is jealous.

Uh, that video was mostly highlights for the women's team. WTF? If I was Montana, I'd be far more excited about hosting the Men's tournament than the Women's.

I have to chime in a bit on these gender inequity reports - it is against the law to pay women less than men (and vice versa). Haven't you heard of the Civil Rights act and the Lilly Ledbetter law?

So why is it that women in Utah (and the country in general) get paid less than men? Once in a while it is gender discrimination, but the vast majority of the time it is because of the career choices that men and women make (and corresponding family choices). Women tend to focus more on their family and will take time off for maternity leave, to stay home with children, etc. They may turn down promotions because they don't want to detract from their family life. Men tend to focus much more on their career and thus earn more. I think this dynamic is much more pronounced in Utah.

Another factor is that women tend to go into careers that pay less - teaching, nursing, human services, etc. Men tend to go into engineering, computer science, business administration, etc. In the end, most of the differences between men's and women's pay is because of choices women make and not discrimination. In fact, some studies show that women may actually get paid more in some professions because of affirmative action issues.

OK - rant over. We now return to regular programming.

I started reading this post, "Whoah, whoah, whoah, way too many words, I was like what, and then I was like huh, and then uh... I got a little bored." (Bolt 2008 (my kids watch it way too much... :-) )

i think partly you are just generalizing and your point about utah is valid for sure, but the study i read was women getting paid less doing the exact same work as men. and the top 10 worst cities that had the largest difference in pay included provo at #1 and ogden at #3. yikes. it sounds really messed up. i will find the link. it might have been in sl trib.

PS most of our threads are way off topic this week.

We must be some bored dudes

Oh my hell!! This is definitely off topic.

Let's all agree on two things: Women's BBALL is totally lame. and Yes, we would like to see our Lady's hoops team do better.
