Transfer Portal Targets **speculative**

This one hurts, losing a great WR to the Griz sucks hard. I liked the Racanelli brothers. Sawyer was the go to target for his QB older brother a couple of years ago when Hockinson won a state title. UW kicked in the balls again

I wasn’t tracking he had an offer from EWU.

I'm more interested in status of coaching staff. How many offensive players are going to commit to Eastern if they do not even know who the OC will be?
Idaho continues to hire staff while EWU leaves open positions.

back in the day before he committed to UW he did. This is the speculative thread. Eastern has a good stable of WR's, I just hated he transferred to the griz. I really liked his older brother Canon. The year he came out Eastern didn't offer him (Canon) and he commited to CWU. He didn't have a huge arm but a load of moxy in the Kellen Moore mode IMO.

Montana is being pretty active in the transfer portal it looks like... We know PSU will field half of their team as transfers... Idaho is active. Eastern had two players opt out of their last seasons in Lindsay and Boston, seems like those are two good places to find a 4 star transfer nugget for a season... I know Eastern has a lot of talent and that's why they've won games, but there is a TON of players that could be a cut above floating out there in the ether. I'm not much of a gambler, but would definitely target a few top transfers.

This guy is .923 transfer from Michigan... let's call that a difference maker, all things considered, if he chose Montana as a landing place.

With all the turmoil at Hawaii there are a quite a few players in the portal.

https://247sports.com/college/hawaii/Season/2022-Football/TransferPortal/?institutionkey=24119
Not related to Hawaii...

With all this moving around ...college football is a mess...feels like this is MLB off-season ....wake me up when we have Rosters locked in....feel bad for coaches...must be exhausting having to re recruit their own players.

Some programs have been hit worse than others. This really is the "game" right now. I don't care for it either. That said, it always seemed wrong that players had to jump through so many hoops to transfer when administrations could fire coaches without their input or coaches could take another job and be gone overnight. A lot will be learned this year and if I was a betting man, players are not going to come out on top with the wild west chaos portal. This is also rough on HS prospects assuming many low to mid tier programs may reach for a known commodity over an unproven freshman who likely has some growing still to do. The last thing football needs at the HS level is another reason to go play lacrosse or other sport

Let me note a certain serious issue with the transfer portal for Eastern.... the best quality players use the portal to move "up." A top guy at Eastern, Montana, Montana State et al would be most likely to leave for some place like UW or Oregon. Most FCS teams would return the favor by poaching D2 kids that were high achievers. Except we have almost nothing in the way of D2 football on the West Coast. For us, that's basically Central Washington and Western Oregon. That avenue of bringing in a top D2 guy doesn't have much chance of logistical success because of it. Hell, we don't even have very many Power 5 program in our vicinity to choose from in terms of drop-downs. I feel like that makes Eastern in a no-win, only-lose scenario.

the ultimate price that'll get paid by the NCAA is that the programs with the most money and resources will cement their status at the top. They can poach kids from their competitors that don't have the ability to hold onto guys. The rise of NIL will make this profoundly worse, because now kids can be bought and paid for outright. And the most comical thing of all is that all of this transpired because California was bent on making it happen. Comparatively, California schools are playing with half a deck against the Midwest and South, where they have revenues the West Coast can only dream about. Maybe USC can make this work, and Oregon has Nike money. But who else? This likely locks the Pac-12 as a conference of softies into perpetuity. There's no way they can pay out the kind of dough that will keep them competitive in what has become a transfer market.

I think there is a distinction to be made from the "big stakes" portal where top players are moving between top programs and the rest of the portal. Think you're assertion the rich will keep getting richer is likely true and there may be something to how many programs and where they are located idea as well. Density also creates more competition for players, so hard to evaluate the trade off.

I don't know what is driving some of the better players to enter the portal; some of it is the new licensing money, some of it is ego, some of it is coaching changes I suppose. I haven't read yet that the player is leaving for the education.

As far as FCS teams getting some of the portal bounty? Montana, MSU, Idaho and others have reaped several very good players. Still believe most players in the portal will be behind the curve and end up back were they started, lateral moves or drop downs. Even Ojoh, who was rated a top 10 LB prospect in the portal a month ago, opted to stay at NMSU when the offers failed to come in.

Montana has added SIX transfers. A stop gap QB, potential All-BSC WR, a Big 10 LB appear to be upgrades.
Transfers (6)
QB- Lucas Johnson 6'3" 215 (San Diego State) 1 to play 1
OL- Dylan Mayginnes 6'5" 300 (Wash State) (Instagram)
WR- Sawyer Racanelli 6' 2" 210 (2. 3-star) (U of Washington)

LB/ATH- Garrett Hustedt 6'2" 230 (Nebraska) 3 to play 3 (Instagram)
DB- Jayden Dawson 5'11" 190 (Idaho State) 1 to play 1
CB- Robert Whitehead 6'1" 180 (Grossmont J.C.) 3 to play 2

MSU - I can only find a single transfer. QB from Wyoming. He's a good player, guess Vigen thought it was a position of need.

idaho is showing 4 transfers, pass rushers ;-)
[TR] Ben Bertram DL, 6-3 265, Albuquerque, NM (University of NM)
[TR] Mathias Bertram LB, 6-2 220, Albuquerque, NM (University of NM)
[JC] Devante Keys DE, 6-5 234, Cypress, TX (Kilgore)
