I know I might sound like a grandpa here, but I dont really like that turnover chant, the "You Suck" part has got to go, It reminds me of something USU fans would say, and we are BETTER than them. Im not a student, so it doesnt really matter what I think, but my mom came to her first game today and she couldnt believe the students said that.

Its your chant so do whatever you want, just had to put my 2 cents in.
 
Your the 2nd person today that got mad about that chant. Some lady...only Baskerville and JimmyDeefor3 know came over and told the students to stop doing that chant.

The sad part is its the start of a new tradition.

As for comparing it to USU, they chant "stupid" over and over about 10 times, then they yell "you suck". Its a lot worse considering they get 4,000+ students to every home game.

As for me I don't really have an opinion on it. Whether it sounds good or bad I'll take any students or chants I can get as long as they aren't drunk and the F word isn't involved.

What do you think Talhad and AJ? Bigpapa?
 
I don't love the chant but I would rather have all of those guys yelling all game than not. Its a start and we should just be glad that these guys get crazy to support the team. Like the chant or not its a hell of a lot better than what the rest of the crowd is doing. So i say keep it up and get 3 time as many students for the next game.
 
The chant doesn't really bother me. They are not swearing like the Aggie fans do. I would like to see a lot more students, and I like the fact that they are actually cheering. NOT A BIG DEAL! Keep going and have a lot of fun!
 
Weber State students are extreamly mild compared to just about every college in the state, and even more so than the ones outside the state. i like seeing the students getting involved. maybe the people who are so offended by "you suck" should help the us come up with another less offensive chant that gets the student section as involed. i would never have gotten involved with this chant if i had known it is so offensive to so many people so i am sorry. my advice is never go to university of Montana.
 
I agree with SMJCPA on this one. At least the students are involved. Compared to a lot of other place, BYU included, "suck" is extremely mild. Just keep bringing people to the games and have a good time while you are there. If you do think this is offensive, please, please, please, never go to Montana or Wyoming, or any other school outside of Utah (USU, UofU, and BYU all have a cheer that has suck in it). For my part I will attempt to replace the word with another one. Any suggestions? Maybe You Oslon, it is after all a synonym of "suck." LOOOOOOOOOL

thats not a bad idea if we play montana in the tourament. turnover, turnover, turnover, FTG. most people wouldnt understand so it wouldnt be offensive. plus we can get revenge for what they were saying to us.

If someone is trippin about this chant they need to go to Montana. They had three or four thousand students chanting "Eph you Weber" and "Purple faggets" over and over again throughout the game. Seriously, after hearing about these chants, turnover, turnover, turnover, YOU SUCK! is not as offensive. If people are offended by this, that's life. It's a freaking College Basketball game. When that was brought to my attention, I was amazed. That's retarded!
 
I guess one of the reasons I don't think the chant is a big deal was seeing UM chant like bengalhater said. The entire student section chanting "F*** You Weber", "Weber Fa g g ots", "Purple Fa g g ots" was a little more offensive than suck.
 
Well with all due respect, we're not saying anything that is extremely inappropriate. In this state suck may be a bad word, but we'd be considered softies if we were anywhere else in the nation. People can tune out our chant if they don't enjoy it. The Cats need all the student support they can get, and this is simply one of our chants. I don't think we need to change it. If we could get the Dee filled up and get everyone cheering, maybe it'd be a different story. But right now with the pathetic attendance, I think people will have to deal with it. We're not swearing, we're not making fun of anyone's race or sexuality. The older guests can tune it out and the parents can tell their little children to not repeat it. Right? Well, my vote is the chant stays. Anyone else have input?
 
The turnover chant is an awsome, recently discovered chant. Those you think "suck" is a bad word need to go to games out of state. I was recently watching Duke Play at Maryland. One of their chants consisted of FU then the certain player they were talking about. The things we chant are soft, and I believe they are short and to the point.
 
Hahahaha, sounds like nobody here would survive in my home state of Ohio or anywhere else in the BigTen. Some of those people would DIE in a place like Camp Randall (Wisconsin football) or the old Saint John's Arena (Ohio State basketball until 1998, when the Buckeyes moved into the Schottenheim). Of course, you can't leave out the good old Horseshoe (imagine playing in a stadium full of 105,000 people who are drunk and hate your guts). A place like Beaver Stadium at Penn State is absolute heck for opposing teams and fans. And the South...whoooo boy, that's the toughest of all. In fact, even tho I'm a diehard Buckeye fan (I have an Ohio State outfit I wear when I watch them play on TV), I think Death Valley at LSU is the harshest place to play in the country. No way a person from Utah will survive a place like LSU on gamedays, especially SEC Conference games like Auburn and Florida. I watched the Sugar Bowl with Utah and even though the Utes were beating the tar out of Alabama, the Ute fans were pretty tame and even harmless compared to the Alabama fans (and I know this, I watched the game from start to finish on HDTV and watched the crowds very carefully).

My advice: some of those folks who criticized the "You Suck" chant need to get harder skin. You're all going to hate me for this, but Utahns and Idahoans are softies (USU, BYU [aggie color theft] and Utah have nothing on the fans back east).

As long as the students are doing something, that's great. I say this for Weber because we have the same problem at ISU. Too many kids in street clothes and not enough paint, you know?
 
Why isusuperfan, how the heck are ya? Think about this thread? This would only happen in Utah! Some people are just plain STUPID! No offense to the person who started this thread.
 
Oh I'm good! Just relaxing and enjoying a lazy Friday afternoon before work. Fridays are lazy up here because students don't see any benefits to staying here over the weekends (which makes campus really boring, incidentally). I saw the turnover chant thread and well, it piqued my curiosity. I just edited my post (again) above, lol!
 
Looks like I got out voted, the chant doesnt really bother me, it just reminds me of that one trip to USU. Hey dont even listen to me, mostly Im disgruntled with the fans (or lack there of). This topic was a waste of time, I didnt realize that what we said was actually decent.

I think it was a great topic, and one that needed to be addressed. Thats the purpose of the forum. This is where we come to chat about Weber and those things that demean or improved the image of our school, teams, and community. Also, there were a lot of replies, so that in and of itself, shows the importance of this topic. I agree with you (not your signature in the slightest, but that can be debated another time in another place) that the attendance is paltry and completely disrepectful to what is being accomplished by this team. Last night really made me sick... I couldn't believe that only 4K showed up to the game. COME ON OGDEN!!! PULL YOUR HEADS OUT!!! Also, the student attendance is absolutely dismal. Even those students that did show up weren't really at the game, they were talking amongst themselves and I'm sure most of them could have cared less who was playing and if their jeresey's said Weber on them or not. GOOD HEAVENS... Two years ago it was great, nothing like 03, the last half of the season there were at least 7K at each game.

Its not my saying its Ronald Reagan's saying, (except the shooting liberals part, thats mine) and what he sadi was true, but like you said another topic for another time.

Anyway, This team despite one hiccup (MSU) is doing exactly what Boyette's team did if it weren't for that hiccup, we would be 14-0, this years team has a chance to go 17-1 in the Big SKy (including Tourney) but why cant we get any fans? it just blows me away, its almost as if people dont care (SL based media) just like in 03 when we had over 11k to watch Weber beat EWU, why cant we put 11k+ in our football stadium when our team was making history. When we had 7,400 vs ISU, i was starting to get excited like the fans were begining to realize what was happening, but every game since then the crowds have been getting smaller and smaller. No wonder other teams laugh at us, aside from the 4000 that show up we have no loyal fans, and most are affraid of the snow. Good thing the weather has been good.
 
This was an AWESOME thread! Excellent input from all parties. I vote YES on the "YOU SUCK" part. Being politicically correct is for pussys who can't handle the real world.
Oh My Freaking Heck....we used to say, YOU SUCK when someone beat us to Boardwalk while playing Monopoly during Family Home Evening! :lol:
