A couple weeks away, but no reason we can't start a thread. The only thing I know about this team is that they were very inconsistant last year. They had a horrible pass defense but a very good offense and QB. I think Waggener will be able to tear these guys apart. However, I am still worried about our defense, especially if we're still missing Eddy and Kenney. I think this game will be pretty high scoring. I say UNC 35- Tx St, 28.

It's been a couple years but we've had good luck vs. Southland teams in Greeley (SE La and Sam Houston State) so I see no reason that can't continue. The Southland overall seems a bit overrated, they seem to get it handed to them a lot when they play out of conference for whatever reason. I know Southern Utah even took McNeese State behind the woodshed a couple years ago. Also we beat them in '06 in their house and that was by far the worst UNC team in recorded history. They might be overconfident though I know their fans are already penciling in a W not that that means anything 95% of fans including myself don't know shit.

My only addition to this thread will be what I know of the injuries: Kenney was a game-time decision Saturday and is expected for Tx. State. Eddy will be fighting his injury all season, but it's believed he'll be able to go then as well.

Unfourtanately I will not be able to listen to or watch any of the games this season because I am deployed right now. But based on my limited knowlege this seems like a good matchup. I would say Tx St. - 24 UNC - 27. Hopefully we will break our opener loosing streak!

Stay safe and God bless you for all of the sacrifices you make so that we may live our lives and raise our families in peace.

I don't know much about Texas State. They had a tough game that they won against a D2 school and then they beat SMU? SMU is bad, but I would have still expected them to win that game. The Bears need to open strong and reclaim the Nottingham dominance of old. This will be a good gauge of where this team is.

The Bobcats fell to SMU 47-36 to give June Jones his first win as head coach there, and ending the Mustangs 11-game losing skid.

This game should give us a better gauge of how we will do this year. Texas State played SMU pretty well and they have some good speed. I think we should win this game by 10 since we have the home field advantage. If you want a quick scounting look at their best plays against SMU you can see a quick video at their site:

Hope we get a good crowd to support the team.

What is our injury update as of today? Anyone know? Eddy, Bigelow? I'm excited for our home opener and I think the bye week is probably beneficial as far as healing and PRACTICE for special teams.
I kind of got reamed a while back on my comments regarding Darnell's play calling, I appreciate the feedback but I have a question for you experts (and I'm not trying to be sarcastic)...why do we do a shotgun on the 4 or 5 yard line? Is that a trick play or something?? Seems to me if we are that close we ought to just run it up the gut!! I will admit it worked against Purdue on our TD drive but it seemed wierd!!
One more thing. How cool was Hernons sack?? True freshman in his first college game! Watch that boy, he's a stud!!

I was hoping Hernon would redshirt or maybe just suck his first year. We have a problem of getting these young studs and they have a good year or two and then leave the program for bigger schools. I am hoping Hernon doesn't do that and follows his commitment for four years.

Even though NC's players have improved strength and size over last year, they were still at quite a disadvantage at Purdue, which played into the shotgun set in the goal line situation. One thing we noted during the game was the quick trigger on passing plays--snap, set, throw with no progressions. That was because of the expected lack of time to get those plays off.

Also lets be honst the shotgun and the spread are all the rage in college football right now, it seems like 75% of the teams out there are running it at all times goalline included. It's like the Rubick's Cube all over again. I'm not a fan, I perfer a standard set but I'm not so convinced it's such a great offense.

I was reading over at their fan website and it looks like they're playing qb carousel now. Bradley George (Who I think we played against a couple years ago) is out and some guy named Toon is in.

Man am I glad we're not doing that crap anymore. After two years of not know who's going to start, it's nice to have a legit number 1 guy taking snaps.

Home opener and we are quite all week? Are we scared or excited? I think this will be a great indicator of what we can expect to see this year. This will be the start of how many might they win or the weekly calls for Downing's head.

I have a sneaking suspicion the Bears are going to win this one. GO BEARS!!

Per the Trib they are starting Toon this week.

I will try and watch it on BigSkyTV. I had problems trying to get it to work last week for one of the other games.

I'll be there, but I doubt it will be a big crowd. THat's what happens when you win two games in two seasons. I doubt more then 5,000.
