Who will be at the game? I am out of town but am going to try to watch it on Big Sky TV. We need a victory and a big crowd.

I'll be there, but I doubt it will be a big crowd. THat's what happens when you win two games in two seasons. I doubt more then 5,000.

You also kind of fall off the radar when you only play one game during the first 3 weeks of the season.

I'll be there. The campus is pretty energized for the game, and I've seen more parents around than usual for Friends & Family Weekend, so the student turnout should be pretty good.

GO BEARS!!

I'll be there as well. I think 5K is probably pretty realistic. Anything less than that would be a disapointment. The first game of the season is usually a better draw than late people haven't been disenchanted yet. Also the weather should be about perfect so that's nice also.

But this game is very winnable so no reason to think otherwise.

I will try and watch it on BigSkyTV. I had problems trying to get it to work last week for one of the other games.

Montana fans crashed the system. This is from BI Networks' GM on the BigSkyTV page:

I would like to update Big Sky TV users on challenges that were encountered last weekend during our web broadcast of the Montana Football game. While Broadcast International had anticipated a substantial increase in viewership based on the Big Sky Conference’s decision to offer games at no charge this season, we were candidly not prepared for the overwhelming volume that was actually encountered during the game.

The number of users coming onto the network at one time far exceeded the system capacity that we had provisioned. This in turn crashed our servers resulting in the log in and viewing problems everyone encountered. On behalf of BI, I’d like to apologize for any inconvenience and at the same time assure all of those who use the Big Sky TV network, that appropriate measures have now been put in place to handle the user volumes generated by the fans of the Big Sky Conference. In an effort to ensure that users have the ability to view games on the network, we have set up a “test game” stream on the Big Sky TV network’s schedule. I’d invite you to visit the site and log in to this test game prior to this weekend’s game schedule to sample the signal quality and ensure you have adequate bandwidth for proper viewing.

I used it for some of the Idaho State-UND game the other night, and no problems...Montana/UC-Davis kicks off a half-hour before our game, so good luck!

Frustrating... at some point you hope these guys just get that mentality that they refuse to lose... I've never seen a more snakebitten, cursed, mistake prone program in my life... frustrating. We just have to accept that we need to win by 14 because if not no matter what we will find some bizare improbable, unprecedented way to lose.

When you commit 6 turnovers you don't deserve to win yet somehow they should have won yet completly blow it in the end in a way you couldn't even make up because it would be too unbelievable. :(

Frustrating.

Hold on to the fucking ball....

Frustrating...

So many stupid penalties... how many times can you be offsides on a kick off for christ sake?

Frustrating...

How can a kicker at this level only be able to kick to the 15? If he's injured get him out of there, pathetic. The field position battle was ridiculous. We start on our 18 while they start on the 35 or 40 time after time. It's amazing we were in the game but only because Texas State is a mediocre as they come, we handed them 28 points on a silver platter.

Frustrating.

But once again I'm thinking about how they should have won... but so many mistakes it was just impossible to overcome all the bed shitting, you can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit...

Frustrating....

But this team is much better than last year by a mile and will still probably go 0-11.

I'd like to give props to Waggonner but I can't with all the terrible mistakes and the one at the end is impossible to forgive.

But props to Sarmento, Hewitt, Fauver, and Brandon Smith were studs...

I don't put the last play on Downing either (the penalties that's another story) but the call was fine, but how do you fumble there? What a total cock up of mythical proportions.

So frustrating...

Phineas, have you seen what the rest of the Big Sky did in non-conference games this week?

Eastern Washington: Had trouble with a lousy D2 in WWU until the pulled away in the 4th.

Idaho State: Lost to North Dakota, who is just starting their transition.

Montana: Couldn't pull away from a 1-3 UC Davis team.

Northern Arizona: Needed a pick in the end zone to beat Southern Utah, one of the worst teams in FCS.

Portland State: Got creamed by Washington State, who isn't nearly as good as Purdue.

We won't go 0-11, I guarantee it.

Also, Waggener threw for more yards today than Corte McGuffey did in any game in his career. Two of his picks were from a slip by Chesla and a great play by a Texas State lineman to tip the ball at the line of scrimmage. Give the kid a break.

Yes, you're right I hear yah but I just want to win one of these so bad it's like getting your guts ripped out every time. It would be nice to catch a huge break once instead of the heartbreaker every time.

I know what you're saying, between this one and the Sac State game last year, it's been tough recently at Nottingham. But if the NAU team that showed up in Cedar City tonight comes to Greeley, we've got a shot at one next week. As for this week's game, I've got to give props to Texas State, they played well. I thought it was going to be a quarterback carousel the whole game, but they stuck with Toon and he was solid.

If nothing else, at least we didn't lose by 30 to a D2!

Remember, too, that a pair of the picks were tipped balls...Cheslea had a tough day...

Downing said in postgame that there was confusion about the playcall at the goal line. The coaches wanted Waggener to spike it, and stop the clock.

I keep chanting "I love college football...I love college football"

I think for some odd reason we've lost the Nottingham magic we once had. I mean we used to win these types of games. Hopefully the football gods will once again be on our side...soon.

I like the team we have and Waggener is the key to the entire season. He's amazing. He had one bad pick, but the rest were just unlucky.

I just don't see us beating a good NAU team next week the way our defense played.

Forgot to note earlier, in the fog of a Sunday morning, that attendance was better than 7200.

I'm still floored by more than 550 yards of offense and UNC loses...(grumble)

The Bears are a better team this year. It is still going to be a long and frustrating year if they can not fix the penalties and turnovers.

Chelsa continues to keep the bears in the game. He played very well and made key receptions. The ball was thrown behind him or over the top of him all day long. David Woods ran very hard and looked good pounding out good hard fought yards 4.9/carry, I'll take that. Alex Thompson is the surprise, he has made GREAT catches in both games. He even had a couple great catches out of bounds yesterday. Of course Smith was the player of the game for the bears, with the 2 scores, 78 yards rushing (but they only gave him 2 carries but one was the 80 yard score) and 2 catches but again 111 yards, get him the ball more please..

The Kickoffs did not hurt the bears. The only scores came after a kickoff to the 7 and a long Txs st drive, and the stupid Puch kick that Downing calls at least once a game, tack a penalty ontop of that and Txs St had a short filed and scored. Not having the ability to a Kick Field Goal did hurt bad. Twice in the 2nd Qtr the Bears went for it on 4th down choosing not to kick a field goal, and again at the end of the game. Punting was much improved, Kaman did a Great Job !!!!

Its was interesting that this was a Big Sky Officiating crew. Unfortunatly all brand new guys the Big Sky sent from the RMAC. I would have thought the Bears would get more respect than that.

The crowd was great, 7,200 and all stayed to the final fumble.

Living out here in Washinton State I could only watch the game on Internet TV, but it looked like we are a much better team than we were last year. It was hard to see on the TV broadcast how close we were to the final attempt. I think the fumble could have been a result of trying to extend the ball over the end zone and the officals didn't see it cut the plane. When you stick the ball out like that it could easly result in a fumble. I think we can claim a moral victory knowing we maybe should have gotten the call. I am looking forward to next week's game since we will be visiting Colorado and will be able to make the game in person.

I totally agree with you, this year's team is much improved. For example, is there any way that the teams from the last two years convert that 4th and 10 at the 31? Of course not. Darnell likely wouldn't have had the confidence in Breazeale/Vlahogeorge/Wiedeman to even call the play he did, and there's no way they complete the pass Waggener did. He made his share of mistakes on Saturday, but the kid is something special.

budbear, how was the audio quality on the BigSkyTV feed? I'm just curious if any adjustments need to be made from our end on making that work...

It was a highly entertaining game so yes although they let this one slip through their fingers it was at least a good game to watch. Lots of mistakes however you just can't overcome so many turnovers. I think 21 if not 28 of their points came as a result of turnovers or that set them up with a very short field. Field position really hurt UNC, something has to be done about the kick offs. You just can't let the other team start at the 35 or 40 every time and expect good results. From what I recall Texas State only had two long scoring drives, the first for a TD and the last for the field goal. You make them do that 3 or 4 more times and I think you win the game...

Talent wise I think we were right there or even a bit better then them. I thought their QB was pretty decent but Waggoner is better. I thought their RB ran hard and seemed to get the most out of what was there, but Woods ran the best I've seen since he got here... Our WR's were head and shoulders above theirs. I think our DL was struggling, we really only seemed to get good pressure when they blitzed Saramento. I also think Hewitt is a star in the making, keep an eye out for that kid.

What this team needs now is to steal a win and even out the karma a little... Like maybe catch NAU napping a little and hopefully they remember coming in here 2 years ago and beating us like 56-3 and we pull an upset.

A couple breaks our way and maybe we can get some swagger back. And hopefully the team is pissed off after this one, there really was a win that we should have had that we didn't. Unfortunately there have been a few of these recently. I was saying on the way home you can go to football games for years and not see a 50 yard hail Mary and a fumble on the 1 both to lose games all within the last 3 home games, it's amazing yet very annoying!

A quote from Downing in The UNC Mirror today:

"A year ago, these guys would've been disappointed," UNC coach Scott Downing said. "But now, for lack of better terminology… I'm going to say our kids are pissed off right now."

The audio quality was pretty good, but there was a little hum on the Big Sky TV feed that was not present on the straight audio internet feed and the volume was up a bit. You guys do a good job with the play by play.

Of course I had connection problems and could not get the game or the radio feed. Thanks for the updates on the game. Disappointing loss. The problem is bad teams find a way to lose and good teams find a way to win. Let's hope this team finds a way to win - and soon.

Glad to hear that there was a big croud out there. Lets hope they keep coming and can see some victories.

Thanks, budbear. That's one of the flaws of my gig--I never get to hear the truly finished product. We aren't monitoring the radio on-air signal, because of minor delays between the stadium, studio and transmitter. The recordings I get later are a little earlier in the audio chain than what the listener hears. As for BigSkyTV, I want the audio to sound good, but its not my #1 priority.

I'm interested to see if the other parts--two more cameras, switcher--are in for this week. The use of the switcher may actually help make the audio on BigSkyTV better.
