UAB drops football is UNC next?

On Wikipedia since 1970 I counted 29 D1 schools that have disbanded their football programs. It takes money and more money every year and that what UNC lacks.Thats why we still have Collins because he is what we can afford.I love the bears and being a Greeleyite have been to many games but the clock is ticking and Midnight is drawing near.No football at UNC would be sad but not surprising.

Possibly, but not for a while. We've been doing things on the cheap ever since we moved up. I think whenever Kay Norton moves on (soon, please), the next administration is going to have to either put up - the money or shut it down. We can't afford good coaches, that is evident. If we can't afford good coaches, it's not worth having a program. That being said, all is not horrible in Bear land compared to what's happening at Portland State. I don't have time to get a link, but google is your friend. They're going to have to self-sustain their program, apart from the rest of their athletic department. It's a mess. Glad we're not them...at least we aren't YET.

We're not going to drop football, no way, no how. Mainly because the Big Sky would throw our asses out of the conference faster than you can say Cal State-Northridge.

Rumor going around players that program could be shut down after next season because of money and failure to put a winning team on the field and for that matter even a team.. lots of talk that a lot of the freshman and others could be leaving at semester..

We do have a rumor section on the message board. I think this and other things you've posted should probably be stated there. :tothehand:

UNC isn't going to shutdown the football program next year. All these rumors do point to there being some serious issues and unrest with the program though. Of course we already knew that. A program on solid footing wouldn't be generating rumors like this.

Yeah thats pretty cool, but when it pertains to something such as this.. Why go there? Thanks though

This topic hardly deserves a comment. Come on people, let's get back to reality. UNC is NOT going to shut down their football program. Please stop stirring up needless chatter about a ridiculous rumor. Some of you guys are worse than the media on a slow news day. It is more likely that a Sasquatch deflated Tom Brady's footballs on Sunday than it is that UNC will drop their football program.

Yeah well when boosters don't give a program money, school doesn't seem to show much support and most students don''t show up to games. What else is there to think than this being a possibility? Football programs need money and support and with an IDIOT like collins and staff running the show, there is a higher chance than most probably think. Especially when the program isn't getting any commitments, players are leaving left and right. What else is there to think?

Looking at how many players have left or didn't return there is obviously something wrong and people need to figure it out. Especially Dunn. I think a total of 7 or 8 players have now quit with more coming by the end of the semester. Good luck to the program and its supporters.

Honestly why do you hate the man? You played for him, correct? I don't think Collins should be the coach based on his record, but you my friend seem to just despise him. Just an honest question.

I wouldnt say I despise him, but I will never give the man a positive. He is more than just a horrible coach but also can't take responsibility for the teams losses, He puts the blame on everyone else. He tends to single kids out and put them down in team meetings. The only thing he seems to truly care about is himself. He doesn't seem to care much about anyone else. Such as letting Trob run around campus and get with any girl he saw and simply just kicked it under the rug. Many times this has happened. He runs the team as if he is a dictator and will kick kids off in an instant. At this point im just rambling on..

Back to the actual topic of the thread, over break and within the last few days in classes.. Professors as well as the school sent out an email as well as handed out a survey in classes as to why students won't attend games. The emails even offered a 25 dollar gift card if the survey was completed. I think the school is a bit desperate at this point, the program is losing money, they can't get kids to attend games, and they are struggling in recruiting. From my standpoint I think this is closer to a reality than most will think.

If we dropped football, would the Big Sky kick us out? Not having football seems like such an extreme measure. I would rather keep football and go back to D-II in all of our sports than lose football and stay D-I.

Okay, but you must admit he 's not the only coach in America that does this. Do you believe if a kid misses an assignment or continues to play poorly, or is not playing up-to-potential, he should be singled out? Shouldn't there be some accountability to include this in team meetings?

Also, you can't honestly say anything positive about the guy? How about that he gave you an opportunity and play college football - and assuming you were on scholarship, he and the school (and donors like myself) gave you money to do so?

This survey was actually sent out by a student in a sports marketing class. The information from the survey was used as part of a project for the class. This was not sent out by the school administration. The email offered a chance to win ONE of FOUR $25 gift cards for completing the survey. As usual, reality is far different from what BigBearFan76 wants us to believe. He is just trying to spin whatever he can to do whatever he can to hurt the program. BigBearFan76 and his views are part of the problem, not the solution. Just my humble opinion...

And I totally agree with your humble opinion ! Although I have raked Collins over the coals (and well deserved), I still want this program and University to succeed ! I am not giving up and any true Bears fan should not give up.

Mccandyman, whatever I say is what's being said in the locker room. None of what I post hasn't been said, and truthfully that survey was sent out by Darren Dunn trying to find a way ti get more people to games. Not by a marketing student. I know you're probably a little worried because your sin is still on the team, I'm sure that's why you support these idiot coaches because they play your son when there is a younger kid who red shirted that should have started the entire season.

Below is a copy of the "email" you are talking about. You can easily see who it was from and why it was sent. Part of what is being said in the locker room stems from some of the ridiculous crap that gets posted on this board. The team is getting new uniforms this year, we just built a video board, etc., and you think the program is being shut down? I'm not saying you're stupid, you're just not very lucky at thinking.

Last week you were sent an email asking for your participation in a study to better serve the students at UNC. This is the last request for your participation in the football attendance and non-attendance study, and the last chance to enter to win one of four $25 gift cards upon completion of the survey.

Just click on the link below and complete the survey (if clicking the link does not work, please copy and paste this ( https://unco.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_6x2iW2XKLI6EOl7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) in your web browser). The survey will close on Tuesday, January 20, 2015.

I appreciate your participation, as well as your effort in helping me graduate from UNC. Thank you.
