UAB drops football is UNC next?

Per McCandyman: "I'm not saying your stupid, your just not lucky at thinking" That my friend, is a quote for the books ! I too get so tired and pissed at the negative BS on this board sometimes. I have been very critical of our football program but I for one believe this train will get turned around on the right track and I really don't think that a lot of these young players understand how passionate Bear fans are and a lot of fans are just waiting in the woods till things change.

Mccandyman, whatever I say is what's being said in the locker room. None of what I post hasn't been said, and truthfully that survey was sent out by Darren Dunn trying to find a way ti get more people to games. Not by a marketing student. I know you're probably a little worried because your sin is still on the team, I'm sure that's why you support these idiot coaches because they play your son when there is a younger kid who red shirted that should have started the entire season.

Below is a copy of the "email" you are talking about. You can easily see who it was from and why it was sent. Part of what is being said in the locker room stems from some of the ridiculous crap that gets posted on this board. The team is getting new uniforms this year, we just built a video board, etc., and you think the program is being shut down? I'm not saying you're stupid, you're just not very lucky at thinking.

Last week you were sent an email asking for your participation in a study to better serve the students at UNC. This is the last request for your participation in the football attendance and non-attendance study, and the last chance to enter to win one of four $25 gift cards upon completion of the survey.

Just click on the link below and complete the survey (if clicking the link does not work, please copy and paste this ( https://unco.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_6x2iW2XKLI6EOl7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) in your web browser). The survey will close on Tuesday, January 20, 2015.

I appreciate your participation, as well as your effort in helping me graduate from UNC. Thank you.

McCandyman, great points. This rumor that the program is going to be shut down next year is ridiculous. But I will also point out that it is not unusual for a department or program to utilize their graduate students to conduct research on their behalf. After looking at this survey and where it came from, I have little doubt that this is being done in conjunction with or at the very least with guidance from the athletic department. Not to mention the Sport Marketing Research Institute is part of UNC - http://www.unco.edu/smri/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I love the idea of reaching out to the students to figure out why, besides the obvious reasons, the students do not support the football team.

The only Big Sky team that I can see dropping football is Portland State. Just google search some of the problems they've been having. We're not at their level (yet). 303 - you bring up a good point, and I would like to see the survey results. I remember filling something like that out at one of the football games. Some of the questions were, "On a scale of one through ten, how important is UNC football in your life..." something like that. I never saw the results though.

Unfortuately he's on to something. The chances of UNC dropping the program and definitely closer than you think. There is a better chance of the program ending then us having a winning season. It's a bad thing when every one of the seniors that graduate said they don't like Collins. This program is a frickin mess and one of my good friends is still on the team and there are people talking about quiting left and right. I wouldn't be surprised if another 10 quit before Spring Ball. #SAVEourBEARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This rumor will not go away. For the second time this week I have heard from 2 different sources that this is the last year for FB.

One source is an accountant tied to the UNC who claims their is no money left, enrollment is down as a whole, boosters have gone south. Program itself is not generating any money. He also claims that is why they kept the Collins/Boyer show for one more year because they did not want to bring in a new crew for one year. Scholarships either remained flat or were decreased. And apparently #15 took off because he caught wind of this.

I hate this crap and would love to see the program rebound and I think we have the talent to do so... so can someone with more knowledge than me help me dispel this rumor please!.

Bad rumor, though it would shed some light on why the Collins/Boyer show was kept, and for not improving Nottingham. I have only been involved in the FB program for 3+ years, and I hope that it does not get cancelled.

Kaydee, you said this was a bad rumor. I was just wondering on how reliable is your information that this is just a bad rumor and not true. Are you just guessing it is a bad rumor and it is not true or are you in a position to have actual reliable insight to know this is just a bad rumor?

Actually I was just responding to Duke the Bear's comment. I am not in the position to know any more than what has been written. That said, I have reached out to one of my admin connections and asked that person about the rumor. I have not heard back from him yet.

Several things...
A. They've made improvements to Nottingham just last season by putting up a brand new scoreboard.
B. IF and that's a BIG IF this is happening, there's only one person to blame for it all crumbling and that's Kay Norton.
C. The athletic budget according to USA TODAY is in the bottom half of the conference. Not the worst, but the bottom half, none the less. Yet, we're right around where Eastern Washington is (we might be higher) and they're constantly in the top 3 of the conference in just about every sport. So...that tells me budget is important and money is very important, but if Eastern Washington can be competitive with lesser money and lesser facilities, than so can we. It's a matter of finding the right coaches to plug in...

If they drop football I don't see any possible way they would be welcome in the Big Sky any longer... so this isn't as simple as dropping the sport. I'll believe it when I see it but if this decision was already made it's unconscionable to not announce it immediately and save everyone the time in investing in another losing season.

Oh and remove me from all future mailing lists and solicitation calls also I would never even consider donating another dime nor ever visiting town again.

This is the stupidest thing I've read on here for a while, and I've read some really stupid things. UNC is NOT going to shut down their football program. I could give numerous reasons why, but it would be like trying to explain why the sky is blue to a four year old.

And what McCandyman said.

Absolutely ridiculous rumor

Oh and for the record, UAB realized the grievous mistake they made and reinstated the football program so they will be back in 2016...

My friend in administration said that there is no way UNC will drop FB. He said that even though he hears the rumor from time to time, he thinks that there is too much invested to drop it.
On a roster note...
One player heard that the transfer TE from So. Miss. will be trying out at QB.

Makes sense. He was a pretty good QB in high school. Also, we have two seniors and then a redshirt freshman this season. Meaning, once Newsom and Berglund graduate, we will only have Knipp. This is a good move to add another arm.

Been reading some past entries and one caught my attention: Beadown Jun 18."but if Eastern Washington can be competitive with lesser money and lesser facilities, than so can we." They are competitive because they play four less sports than we do. WE need to raise more money or drop some sports perhaps just play the sports that are in the Big Sly.That way we can put more money into football, men's and women's basketball and vollyball.
