In a weird way, I understand the extension. It rewards Collins the academic successes of the team. But don't forget that he can still be let go at any time. Personally, I think Collins is getting better. I know many of you don't want to hear that, but I think it is true. Collins' biggest challenge at this point is upgrading and managing his staff.
Collins has improved his staff but unfortunately I believe that he still has two glaring weak links in Boyer and Hayden.
Boyer's biggest downfall is that the players can't trust him or stand him, and that won't change any time soon. Experience wise, I would venture to say that he is probably the least experienced OC at the FCS level.
RB coach Hayden is probably the only RB coach in the FCS who never played college ball. That is probably why he doesn't have the balls (or knowledge) to know what RB to play at any given time. Give Reicke and Davis a couple of years and they will be sitting on the bench, replaced by the next group of younger players.
Lets hope that the consistent coaching by Jones, Armour, Davison, Grable, Gordon, Blevins and Wikre will overcome the ineptness of Boyer and Hayden.
I'll bet you thought I forgot Cummings and Butler. Well, I have saved the best for last. Cummings turned an awful special teams into one of the best in the nation. Its a reflection of the passion he brings to the team 24/7. It's a wonder that he wasn't hired away. Kudos to Collins for this hire. And not only did Collins hire a great S&C coach in Butler (look at his success at SUU) but at the same time, Butler replaced one of the biggest weak links in Dinky.
We can only hope that Boyer gets hired away by some clueless AD and take his buddy Hayden with him.
There are ex players on this board will disagree w/ your view on coach Boyer.

Im a former player and to that Id say name 1 guy - just 1. Lemme guess Lobato? Good one!

Just go back and read some of the older threads, it's not just one or two. I've never met Boyer, but I do recognize he's a very young coach. He'll learn from his mistakes.

Based on your past posts I don't buy this explanation. You say you have never met Boyer, that's BS. You also said that he will learn form his mistakes, well wrong again. His maturity may improve over time, but his lack of leadership skills, integrity and ego won't. The last three are responsible for his poor decision making. The decisions he has and is making will negatively impact recruiting for as long he is here. This years recruiting class will impact this team for the next four years. High school coaches and their players have seen what he does on the offensive side of the ball and they will shy away from UNC. Every other Big Sky team goes into the season with 4-6 QB's ready to play. Last year we were good with 4 that quickly became 2. Right now we have 3, one that is field ready, one that is being used as a 2nd string receiver, and an incoming freshman with a lot of question marks. It looks like Boyer had a very hard time recruiting. We have a couple of excellent receivers coming back, but they were relegated to 2nd string last season. What are they thinking right now? Last Spring our starting QB and Tight end left without sufficient explanation. They quit at the end of the school year when Boyer was out of State. This should have caused an uproar from within. I fear this will happen again this year. Collins needs to wake up and dump Boyer.

That's fine, believe what you want.

The coaching profession is fluid and dynamic, in other words, coaches come and go. The primary reason is GROWTH, and unfortunately that also means the lack of growth. I am a firm believer that both Boyer and the UNC program would be better off if he were gone - and that is because his growth as a "complete coach" has slowed to a trickle. Boyer knows his Xs and Os, but he is lacking in the areas of relationships and communication. As Bear Fan has stated, our starting QB and senior TE left last spring, and that was because of Boyer's inability to communicate effectively with them. Effective communication means being honest and upfront with the players. An example is the development of the young players. It seems that their first two seasons are exciting and full of promise - only to fade to the background by the time they are seniors. Everybody knows that the best players should always play, but it is vital to keep the older players involved if the program is to sustain "growth." I have been accused of disliking Boyer. That is wrong. Actually, just because he is a below average coach (at this time of his career) doesn't mean he is a bad guy. It is my opinion that the growth of both him and the program would be rekindled if he were not at UNC. That is just my opinion.
Btw, micromanaging is another problem that Boyer has. He should let his position coaches decide who they think should play. I have heard that it was his decision to limit the playing time of Miller, Floyd and Cartegena. Miller and Cartegena have proven during games that they can play. And all the players say that Floyd has proven in practice that he should also be playing.

Here's the bottom line Kaydee regardless what you say or know or whatever your interaction is or was. Collins believes that he is an NFL caliber coach as he has openly stated on video. Collins is afraid of Boyer and new coaches who know more. He has the upper hand for whatever reason with admin (lack of $). GL class of 2016 - more of the same below ave RMAC coaching sure to come!

To numbear1,
Agreed.
Again, I don't think that Collins is that far off about his comment on Boyer's football smarts. Unfortunately at the college level coaches have to realize that they are coaching young adults who are motivated in so many different unique ways. That is why I think Boyer should be dumped, cause he grades out terribly in this category.
Btw, Rubacaba was a Golden Helmet award winner for the state of Colorado and has more on the ball than your average college ball player. Though he is too much of a class act to "kiss and tell", I'll bet that a conversation with him would illuminate much about the Boyer situation.

Just after his transfer was made public, Rubacalba's father came on this board and said Sean still had a positive relationship with Boyer. You've got your buddies that you talk to on the team. I hope they also realize that if they hate their offensive coordinator so much, they themselves have every right to transfer out of the program. It happens all the time, in every program in America.

Well said Beardown.

This has now become laughable. You know things have gone south when the likes of a bear down and mccandyman are the only two coming to the defense of a coach. Impressive defense guys. You've left us speechless.

Kaydee I'm sorry but your logic doesn't make sense because you can't have NFL smarts and not get how treat or get the most out of players. That makes zero sense I'm sorry. Keep up the good fight though. Lol

To numbear1,
I could be all wrong about the NFL smarts. I was basing my comment on a conversation I had with a close family member who played on Sundays about the difference between how college and NFL coaches motivate their players. He felt that college coaches must rely more on their ability to communicate to their players whereas NFL coaches rely more on their knowledge of the game. He said that in the NFL, the money and the presence of non-guaranteed contracts are the motivation.
I guess my comments might not be applicable to this situation.

No, what is laughable is that we have some former players coming on here and talking shit and hiding behind a screen name. Didn't your parents teach you to have integrity?

Spoken like a true UNC FB coach! Integrity only applies to everyone else! Thats what's laughable!

Here we go. ...the "hiding behind a screen name" retort.
Again, I would look forward the bigger picture. If ex-players are sharing their experiences here, how are they representing this program elsewhere?
Regarding the"integrity" remarks. ....I was under the impression that mr collins was a big proponent of character development as a component of his program. How's that working out?

No, not a coach. Just someone who grew up in Greeley, has two degrees from UNC and a member of the Blue and Gold Club. I'm also someone who helped pay for your scholarship. You might want to show some respect. Coming on to a message board, trashing your former coaches, hiding behind a screen name is the equivalent of someone who lacks integrity. This should go without saying, but you especially shouldn't trash individuals like myself who give their time and money so you can play football and go to school for free.

Members of the BG club don't pay for scholarships directly. You're an embarrassment as is the BG club as is the FB staff and the admin.

Whoa there boys. .......numbear1.....that's a whole lot of embarrassment in one statement.
I'm a big believer that or student athletes earn every penny of their scholarship $, and any booster organization exists to do what the name implies (not to concern themselves with scholarships....simply raising $ and enthusiasm). I can also support a number of your insights regarding the state of this program/regime. The frustration is abundant in and around this program, and it is rooted at the administrative level of or institution, and continues so long as the present head coach continues to remain.
Given that stance, I concur. .....there are a number is sources of embarrassment surrounding this program. ....I'm just not sure Beardown falls in that category (please understand that I disagree with much of what he writes. ...see previous posts).
Recognizing a problem is one thing. ....addressing that problem and working to provide a remedy seems to be more important.

Keep hiding behind that screen name, you punk kid. It's probably not wise to crack on alumni who spend their money on providing scholarships. PM me and I'll provide you with my full name, and perhaps we can meet up at an alumni event or something. I've got nothing to hide, but you do.
