UNC Cubbies Thursday

The new coaching staff has this team playing better D now. However, we got them at their place and I certainly expect a win here. The Cubbies have nothing to lose. I expect them to play hard and be excited to play us. Judging by what they did against UND, I expect them to try to slow the game down.

How well we do against them will rely heavily on our motivation to rebound and defend. After last weeks defensive performance, I expect there will be a renewed emphasis. :coffee:

Hope to see the team play with some confidence again like they were when they started conference play. On this last road trip they looked almost lost on defense and relied to heavily on outside shooting. I realize we have a pretty good shooting team but I want more production from our inside game.

I fully expect Braxton to have another solid game against the Bears like he did in Greeley. Assuming he stays out of foul trouble. UNC had no answer for him over there until the refs took him out. We have the superior inside game we should go in all game long against UNC.

I also really want to see more people at the games, I want us to get to that over 7K average again and show the Big Sky what it means to have a dedicated fan base.

I also hope that with the big Saturday game looming that the Cat's don't look ahead of the Bears. Take it one game at a time.

GO WEBER.

I want Mayor Caldwell to full on storm the court on Thursday!
Maybe their mayor will show up and we can have dueling mayors at halftime. Waldo could officiate. It would be a good show, sort of like a MMA thing. Mayor Caldwell could dress like a basketball official. Greeley's guy could just be himself. I bet we could sell out the Dee.

If we can't do that, put Waldo in a refs shirt and have him fight the bear cub.

Maybe I just want to see a fight.

I won't be able to go on Thursday because I cant afford both Thursday and Saturday. I will be there on Saturday with one of my friends though

If you want some tickets for Thursday I always have extras since it's a school night, just send me a PM.

Maybe we can use the violations as an opportunity to send them back to D2. They don't add anything to the conference and play football in a Jr. high stadium.

The conference is seeing the results of Foolerton's poor leadership. We already know that UND shouldn't have ever been invited, especially without USD, and now it's even more obvious that UNC shouldn't have ever been invited. And Idaho shouldn't have ever been invited until they humbled themselves and brought football with them. Meanwhile Poly and Davis get free rides while not really adding much to the one sport they're allowed to squat in. I think we'd all love to go back to a conference of 9 or 10 where all schools play in all sports.

They are, much to my distaste. I would have preferred Idaho became a floundering fish.

I am not bothered by the additions of Poly or Davis as football only members, Poly has been a solid program over the years and Davis has much potential. The two of them were in bad spots with their hoops programs being in the Big West and their football programs being in the dying Great West. I was actually glad to see the Mustangs and Aggies get picked up. I was also glad to see SUU get picked up.

UNC has added as much as Weber, Idaho State, Portland State or Sacramento State has in football. And as much as Sacramento State, Idaho State, SUU, Northern Arizona and Portland State have in hoops since they joined yet I see no one on this forum jumping to kick any of those other members out.

If Northern Colorado leaves then they leave, but I doubt it will be anytime soon.

So if I understand this correctly BJ and his crew were not only doing course work for their players they were doing course work for players at other institutions so they could become eligible. You know you are scraping the bottom of the barrel of desperate when you start doing things like that.

My question is, if you are going to cheat, why cheat for average players? If I was going to cheat, I would do it for some studs not duds...

UNC has had a couple of above average guys over that time period. It would be interesting to know who it was they screwed the pooch for. It also makes you wonder if that is what the previous coach did to get some of his winning teams on the floor. It looks to me like it was a well established thing.

I do think that the staff they have in there now will do it the right way.

I haven't been to Greeley and don't want to comment on what they might add to the BSC. However, I do know that they are a well respected academic institution. There are a few schools around the BSC who are not quite up to D1 in their facilities. Sounds like UNC is one of them. I'm sure that they are trying to upgrade. :coffee:

I've got a ticket for you on Thursday if you want to come. It's not a problem. PM me if you are interested.

I should have read one more post ... but the offer is open from two of us now. Thursday's aren't a problem for me -- Saturday's are.

WOW!! These are some major violations. I agree with Oldrunner. These types of things just don't automatically happen. The NCAA should probably stop by the University of Colorado and check out how that program is being run?

But, that is a P5 program. Can't get mad at them. Look, what happened at UNCO is bad and they should get punished, more severely than their "institutional" punishment. They need to lose scholarships and maybe another year of post-season eligibility. However, you have to applaud how quickly they cleaned up the mess and took care of business. What bugs me is that the NCAA maintains a double standard. Look at North Carolina. They cheated for students for 3 decades, and nothing has come of that investigation. The DOJ along with the NCAA should be involved in that investigation. But, they will get a slight slap and be allowed to go back to business. Calipari has been caught cheating everywhere he goes, and we all know he is doing the same stuff at Kentucky, but he hasn't been punished. It is ridiculous how the NCAA will attack a small/mid-major and punish them severely while a major gets off virtually free of punishment. DOUBLE STANDARD!!

Could not agree more. They were probably so angry an North Carolina they decided to throw the book at Northern Colorado...

This occurred in 2011. We were invited in 2006? How could have the Big Sky known? UNC isn't known for this kind of stuff either so it isn't like we had a track record of bad oversight.

UNC will come out of this bruised but not broken. They have the right guys steering the ship now. With the grant reductions, it may effect their depth, but probably not much. We all know that it is hard to play 13 guys anyway. The restricted recruiting may cause the most pain. The loss of post season play only hurts if you were going beyond the BSC. That wasn't likely be a concern for a few years to come.

It sounds to me like the NCAA may not impose any further restrictions on UNC. If that is true, they may have got off easy. It probably helps that there were no priors. :coffee:
