UNC Cubbies Thursday

WE just blew a 6 point lead in 2 minutes to the worst team in the nation on our home court.

Utterly humiliating basketball. Something has to be done.

Whew. Ugly win against a BAD team, but with Senglin having his worst game of the season, Harding and Braxton gave us just the spark we needed, and Hill was clutch from the free-throw line down the stretch. I'll take it.

Don't think the guys minds were on "this" game. Probably thinking ahead and didn't get their heads into this game until the last 5-6 minutes. For 35 minutes they thought they could win with shooting alone. Thats 2 of the last 3 games that Senglin's shooting has looked god-awful. Sure hope he gets his stroke back soon. Lets hope that they come with their mind on the game on Saturday. I predict that if they don't win Saturday they will not win the BSC regular season title. Great free throw shooting Mr. Hill. Can't believe that Weber won the rebounding battle by two when they were -10 in the first half. We will need better assisting on Saturday to win...

Well that wasn't pretty. Actually it was down right ugly. Props to the Bears who came to play. Got plenty to work on before the big game Saturday

You have to hand it to UNC. They did what they had to, to have any chance against us. They slowed it way down and took the ball inside in an effort to get our big men in foul trouble. They put their best defender on Senglin and tried to keep the ball out of his hands. They did a good job on him, but a lot of it was him just having a cold night. We toughened up in the second half and were able to pull it out, but it got dicey in the last two minutes.

Onward and upward. lets get a crowd out for Saturday night.

BTW, we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg, as for what Harding can do. He will be even better going forward. Gotta love the kid. He is fearless. :notworthy:

I think you meant UNC. You can give us compliments on Saturday night :)

I'm joking of course, I expect Saturday to be a battle, regardless of Weber having a few close games. For those questioning when Sengelin will get his stroke back, please remember you guys are playing against North Dakota on Saturday; that is almost a guarantee that Sengelin will be raining 3s.

Seriously though, really looking forward to the game. Should be a fun one. Obviously, I want to see UND win, the only thing that makes me nervous about seeing a UND win, is we could easily meet up in the conference tournament. Tough to beat Weber twice in a season, but three times? When is the last time Weber lost 3 games to the same team in a season?

NAU in 2007-08. :)

But, you are right. Regardless of who it is, it is tough to beat teams multiple times in a season. Saturday's game is going to be epic! Potato State didn't put up much of a challenge.

As for the cubbies...they came to play last night. Linder and Smiley (who I am very sorry isn't still on our sideline) had their players ready to go. They were tough, competitive, and really made our guys work. Three guys deserve game balls for their play last night: Braxton, Hill, and Harding. Without these guys Weber loses big time.

The Chucker Triplets in a combined 94 mins scored a whooping 15pts (3-16 from range), 3 assists (6TOs) and thankfully for John, 9 rebounds (Cody had 7). I know he is a senior, I know he is our go-to guy, but Jeremy was beyond awful last night. He only made two shots and both times he was looking over at Lillard. I can just imagine what Dame was thinking, "why are you looking at me, play the freaking game!"

I thought UNC was well-coached last night. They did what you need to do to win at the Dee. Hang around in the first half then slow it down to a crawl and play half court basketball in the second.

I'm very concerned with our inability to rebound the ball. UNC took 13 more shots than we did. Another smaller team that wanted the ball worse than we did (I think SAC put up 20 more shots than we did in that loss). Definitely our Achilles heel (and it has to end). I was surprised we shot nearly 50%. It just didn't seem like we were shooting all that well.

Should be fun on Saturday. I'm glad that Lillard won't be there as I think Senglin was star struck (or trying to impress). Lillard had some nice things to say about Senglin after the Jazz game the other night. And after he hit his second 3 (and final points) in the first half, Senglin was chatting with Dame on the way back down court. Not good. Gotta have your head in the game. I went to the Jazz game the night before and Lillard was 3 for 19. Then Senglin goes 2 for 12 the next night. I hope that kind of shooting performance is over for both of them!

Sorry this is long, but the 1 on 3 breakaway by Harding was so awesome. The kid is a total warrior. I'm really looking forward to the next few years and watching him develop.

The team needs to regain the confidence they had when they put up great performances against UVU, Utah State and the Montana's.

Last night the boys looked nervous and discombobulated on offense at times. The fact that we almost lost the boards to a much smaller team is really concerning. Especially since our next 3 games are against taller teams. Also I think Senglin is in a little bit of a funk, I really hope he's not overly thinking about the records he could beat. As cool as it would be to beat them those aren't the kinda things to be worrying about, Winning the Conference is. When he is having off days like this I think he needs to take a step back, shoot better higher percentage shots or dish out the assists. This team can win any game if they play together but if they play a lot of one on one like they did in the first half yesterday the team struggles.

We are going to be going up against the hottest team in the Big Sky on Saturday. If we play like we have been in our last 4 games we are gonna get run out of our own arena. Another thing that really bothered me about last nights game was I didn't think we utilized our superior size as much as we could have. When we did go inside NoCo had no answer for our bigs, yet we didn't look to go inside as much as we should have. I'm no coach and I may just be ignorant but UNC had no answer for our bigs and that option was open all night long.

Huge game Saturday, hopefully the fans show up in earnest and we can eclipse the 8,000 mark. We are gonna need as much home court advantage as we can get.

An observation I have made over the years is that even the worst teams in the league get better over the season. Toward the end of every season there are a lot of, so called, upsets. I'm not sure if it's teams getting tired or teams playing with nothing to lose, but it happens every year. Games get tighter.

Fact...Weber has looked sloppy and disinterested the last couple of weeks. Our guys thought they just needed to show up and the game would be won. UNCO has something to prove and really wanted to win. Our talent level is so much better than the cubbies, but they had far more desire. I don't understand why Coach keeps guys in the game who aren't playing well. I once had a soccer player tell me that she knew she would start all four years and every game. She told me there was limited incentive for her to push herself. That really seems to be the issue right now with our team. Guys seem like they are more interested in being "the show" or being "big time" rather than playing as a team. To me the starting lineup should be changed. I'm not kidding, but maybe Richardson and Senglin should start on the bench tomorrow night. Even when John isn't hitting shots he still plays tough D and goes after boards. If the shots aren't falling for Senglin or Ryan they take defensive series off or try to push it on offense. I know Baller will disagree with this, but Cannon shut down Davis in three straight series in the second half, gets pulled, and right after Davis scores 6 straight points and cubbies get back in the game. Randy's lack of change is the most frustrating issue with Weber State Basketball. I love coach, but he needs to change things up. If we played a team a little more talented or the calls went more the other way, we lose that game.

THANK YOU BRAXTON, HARDING, and HILL for playing team ball.

I can see both sides of that argument, Tal.

On Randy's side we have the argument that consistency brings efficiency and that can win games. On your side of the argument, consistency bring boredom and boredom leads to lethargy. Lethargy can lose games for you. IMO, it is also hard to just turn those things on and off. To Randy's credit, he tries to make the changes in the practice routines, not in game planning. It's hard to argue with his success. On your side would be Ron A. He would start the year out with simplicity and add little things each week, right up to the end of the season. It seemed to keep our guys mentally fresh. It is also hard to argue with his success. There is merit in both approaches.

The thing that I am constantly reminding myself is that it is their job to do and they need to be allowed to do it in the manner that they can be successful and play to their own strengths.

Over the years that I have watched WSU coaches do their jobs, I have seen a variety of approaches to this issue. It is something that every coach has to deal with. :twocents:

The worst team in the nation? You don't know much about about college basketball, do you?
