UNC vs CSU Gamethread

NC 73, CSU 64... Keep fighting Bears, you always have a puncher's chance.

And thank you to the Rams, Buffaloes, Pioneers, and Cowboys for playing their regional rival, despite knowing we're on the upswing and will eventually dominate the entire midwest sports scene.

Look at what happened to our play calling after the pick. Way too conservative. Picks happen. The coaching staff needs to have confidence in this team instead of reverting back to the conservative play calling that doesn't win games. There is talent on this team if the coaches would simply utilize them to their fullest capabilities.
I will disagree with you. I think that the play calling after the first pick wasn't conservative, but rather more desperate. That is, we had less balance between the run and pass. Then after the 2nd score by CSU, and it was apparent that we were trying to get all 14 points in one drive. The first drive was proof that we could mix it up between runs and passes effectively. In the 3rd qtr we did that.
Regarding the offense, I think that we should have considered our opponent's strength and implemented better time management. Had we mixed in the run more in the first half, as well as mix up the tempo (slow it down sometimes) then CSU wouldn't have gotten the ball as many times. It is my belief that the kids played well enough for the half time score to have read: CSU 17 - UNC 10.
In any case, offensively I think there were a ton of positive things that we will be able to take to Big Sky conference games. I saw some very aggressive play by our line, great leadership by Sloter, hard running by our backs and a great bunch of receivers. I saw a couple of "de-cleats" (these days they call them "pancake" blocks) as well as our FB body slamming their all-conference LB Kevin Davis to the ground. At times it wasn't pretty, but hell, its Football. The CSU game provided growth for our offensive in preparation for Big Sky play.
To the messages regarding the ineptness of our coaches, I will also disagree. I think the coaches had our players ready. And for the most part, game-time decisions were also above-average. Playing a Mountain West team who has 20 more scholarships and more resources is a challenge and I think that our Bears (the team and staff) represented us well in the game.
Special teams played well and our DC will have our "D" ready for NAU. Go Bears!

I am glad you're more optimistic about our defense, but they're really bad. Our secondary is the worst in the conference and now we go up against the best QB/Receiver combo in the conference. It could be another blowout like last year. I believe they put up 64 points against us.

If we don't get more aggressive on our offense, and stop playing like we are a peewee team allowing every player to touch the ball, we will be slaughtered. It's time to let the cream rise to the top and stop trying to spread the wealth simply to say we did it. It has not worked. It seems as if we don't know what to do when we get ahead in a game. We go back to conservative play, and then become desperate when the other teams start scoring like crazy on us instead of continuing the aggressive full-out assault we are capable of unleashing on teams.
