UND game

I was just over at the UND Forum. Judging by their talk ( they talk a lot) and their game yesterday, they look a lot like us - 2/3 run, 1/3 pass. They have three QBs none of whom pass very accurately so they resort to runs. The difference is, we play all of our QBs and they play one. Two teams playing the running game - who has the best defense against it?

I just dropped by to congratulate your team on your successful record and first place in the Big Sky. Wow no one predicted PSU and UND leading the conference. Just looking at our stats. PSU and UND are quite similar in pound the rock and stuff the opponents running game. My guess would be a low scoring game since both teams like to eat the clock.

Statistically this looks to be a great football game. Two great defenses going at it.

If we can continue to play solid 3rd down defense, I suspect we'll be happy on Saturday. We're best in the BSC so far.

I really wish our conference home opener was at home, versus our home away from home. Oh well, lets pack our home away from home and get to 4-0. No reason not to have a good crowd with Oregon playing later on the road and Oregon State having a bye.

After the horrible performances by the Ducks and Beavers this last weekend, Hopefully people will will start noticing how well the Viks have been doing and giving the team a little more support.

I'm waiting for the day the headline on the Sunday Oregonian sports page isn't "Ducks and Beavs lose another" to "Vikings win again."

What is going on out there that the game is being played at Hillsboro Stadium over Providence Park? Is there much distance between the two, and do you guys typically draw a pretty good crowd?

Looking forward to the game next weekend. Nice to see some fresh blood at the top of the polls for a change. Hopefully something that can be maintained throughout the season.

We're definitely a team that tries to establish the run, and unfortunately pretty one dimensional, as was exposed by NDSU.

Fortunately, our D is pretty solid. Front 7 are really good. Safeties are pretty solid (watch for Cole Reyes). Corners are definitely the weakest link. Best player to watch for on D is #51, Will Ratelle; 15 tackles this past weekend.

Should be fun, and hopefully a good game.

There's a scheduling conflict on Saturday with the Portland Timbers that forced the move of this game.

haha, don't hate. Anything to stir up the chatter in here. Hardly any football talk.

Portland State is number 1 in the conference ranked 16th in the FCS coaches poll. Does anybody care in Oregon about Portland State football?

They're coming around slowly. It helps when both the Ducks and Beavers lose and we win. The Wazzu win helped tremendously.

At the risk of overstating the importance of this game, I think this is the most important game PSU has played since 2011.

If the Vikings win, they will establish to themselves and the rest of the Big Sky that PSU is a different team than the recent past. They will put UM and MSU on notice that they better bring their best game. UND is playing well right now, and PSU needs to prove to themselves that they can beat a good team that has won some games. PSU and UND are at about the same level as far as respectability in the Big Sky right now and a win would put PSU slightly ahead. The win over ISU is not seeming quite as big a win as it did a few weeks ago; though a case could be made that PSU pushed the boulder that got their program headed downhill. The players are believing in Barney Ball right now, and another win could go a long way in cementing that belief into an actual system at PSU. A win will make the probable loss in Texas just a test; one that no one expects them to ace, but one they could maybe get a B on. Then they would be able to re-group, have a few more snaps on offense before they have to face three tough teams in a row.

What if they lose? A loss would mean that the juggernaut of a schedule that they have to face after coming back from Texas might bring a little doubt into the program. Two losses in a row might mean a few more penalties of the type that has plagued the program under Burton. It might cause the team to panic just a little, press a little harder against three teams that know how to win. It may mean that they regress just enough to send them into a bit of a spin which could easily turn into five losses in a row before the ship got righted.

This is an important game.

I agree this is an import game for your program. October will be tough for your program if you lose to UND. The same could be said for UND and our hopes of the playoffs. I wish you guys the best of luck but just not Saturday.

This seems to be a pretty pivotal weeks for both programs trying to take a step forward. Really wish it was a home game for us, but hopefully it makes for a good test for UND.

Would be a huge win for UND, who moves on to Idaho St and then Weber St. At that point we move into the toughest part of our schedule with the Montana's.

If Portland St can stop our run, and stop it early, then it could get to be a long game for UND. If we establish a run game, then this could get pretty fun, and be a competitive game.

Honestly, the same can be said for us. I get nervous looking at those UND D run stats. If UND shuts down our run, it will be a long day for PSU as well. Scary how similar UND and PSU look on paper.

They appear to be very similar. Refreshing to have defensive play in the Big Sky and see some new names at the top ... at least for now.

I've had this as a should win-must win game since the schedule came out. We've got another FBS team (The Mean Green) and then MSU, Poly, and UM in a row. I'd dearly love to go into that stretch 4-0. Even then, we will need at least 2 of 4 of those tough games to make the playoffs so this game means a lot.

I like our Defense against their Offense, and I think our Offense will be tough for them to defend against. All things being equal though our special teams play has really been our spark all season. Probably our ace in the hole if we have one. Should be a good game.
