Updating the Dee Event Center

Jerry Greybeal informed some of us fans last season about future plans - upgrading the Dee, a multipurpose complex which will include an indoor football practice facility.

He said the upgrading of the Dee will be retrofitting the jumbotron - $600,000 so it could be anytime over the next few yrs, not exactly top priority depending on when they can get the funds.

The mulitpurpose complex will be around $6,000,000 and one of the ways to get this sooner than later and to help pay for it will be to have it open to the public and charge a fee to use it. Kind of like the Swenson Gym.

He said its location will be by the Dee and the Ice Sheet.

Yea, that would be sweet. What really chapped my hide was when the football team got their new jumbotron when the basketball team needed and deserved one more than the football team did.

Don't get me wrong; i'm glad the football program got theirs, but serioulsy, why did the football team get all the money for new practice fields and jumbotrons when the bball team didn't get jack!?

One reason that the Football team got the practic field was becuse Mac went out and got all of the funds him self. He hit up former WSU players, and some of his former players. Pete Owens told me how the Big Screen at the game got there but I do not remember how.

The Ute's got a brand new screen this season, while I have not seen it, some of my buddies that go to the U and went to the first two games down there said that it looks great.

It would be nice to get a new jumbotron. The problem with the DEC though is the lack of corner sight lines. No way to fix that, really.

Aside from that, what is there to make better? Can't think of anything. Slightly bigger pep band, but that's not the DEC's fault.

The jumbotron is ancient. I needs to be upgraded and we need a video feed to show re-plays like they do at the football games. I would have loved to see the replay of Davis blocking their center (#55) again. What a great game to start the season off with.

It would take approx. $! million to replace the video screens in the Dee. If you know of anybody willing to put up some major $$ it can happen soon.

Many of our venues are getting updated and looking really nice:

The new Swenson for VBall.
The soccer field update.
The practice field for football.
The new look to the basketball court.

So when will we get the javelin moved so we can get football turf and when will we get the jumbotron in the Dee retrofitted?

I think before the football team gets anything else, like their indoor practice facility to go along with their new turf and grass fields... that the Dee should get a jumbotron. Not tht I'm hating on the football team, but really, shouldn't the team that has won the most get rewarded at some point?

When the indoor practice facility is built it will be built with funds raised by coach Mac, and with funds raised by playing Boise St., Hawaii, Utah, Wyoming twice, and other big money games that they are working on. Also a lot of the MATERIAL for the indoor practice facility is being donated.
Also, the indoor facility will benefit many of the athletic programs, and possibly be open for public use on some days.
The reason the DEE hasn't been updated, but alot of other facilities have is because of need, the DEE is still the nicest facility on campus, but now Swenson, the soccer field, the practice fields, and Stewart stadium are all way better than they used to be.
In all, our overall athletic facilities are much improved.
New video boards in the DEE are a big priority and it will get done, but those other upgrades were MUCH needed. Just be thankful that WSU's administration views WSU athletics as important and that they are willing to spend money to upgrade the entire athletic department. WSU athletics hasn't always had that support from administration.

The indoor practice facility would be used by a number of different sports. Soccer, Mens & Womens track, and tennis to name a few. There are a number of other projects on the table for facility improvements. Lights and bleachers for the Soccer field. Restrooms and consessions for the Football field on the East side. None of these are getting worked on at the moment because of funding. The University has to ask the board of Regents and the Legislature for money to do these types of projects.

I know that some of projects that they are looking at are
Re-doing the parking at the Dee. All of the trees and the planter boxes will be gone.
Doing a field for the womens softball team.
Indoor tennis facility.
New scoreboard at the Dee
This list is not copmrehensive, and not in any particular order. I just know that these projects are on the table.

Why would they want to get rid of the trees and planter boxes? It is not like we are out of parking at the games.

I think so that the air wont' be as clean! The less trees the better...It's part of the McCain campaign from what Bengalhater told me!

Also we apparently don't want to give Mac more money for recruiting that he was been asking for. He would just like to compete in his own conference. But his funding is on the level of SUU.

I think, and this is purely my opinion, that the Dee parking is being redone, because it will create more room for the university to build on.
