Utah State and Beau Baldwin

The Aggies currently have a head coaching vacancy.
Current Aggies AD is Scott Barnes who was the AD at EWU from 1999-2005.
The Aggies also have former associate AD Kent Stanley on staff in the athletic department too.

I think it's obvious to assume the line of communication between Utah State and Beau has been opened....

It was rumored that San Jose State also considered him before hiring their new coach earlier this week.

Baldwin is a good coach and its only a matter of time before he heads to the FBS, but I sure hope we keep him a couple more years...

On Dec 14 their asst head coach was named head coach at Indiana so they are looking for asst HC and HC. That is kind of a tough job in that you are competing with Utah and BYU and considered the ugly stepchild of Utah. The program looks to be in decent shape, they just won the Famous Potato bowl over Toledo.

You know what . . I have met him a couple of times, but don't know know him personally. . . but I think he is the kind of guy who get's it in terms of what the upper level is all about.
What good is it to go win a conference championship and then go to a bowl game you don't get to win the "BIG ONE" unless you are a power house schools and those jobs don't come very often and they have a quick trigger finger in terms of firing.
Also does the Potato Bowl really get your juices flowing or a National Championship?

Would I blame him for taking an interview or two to get more money out of EWU no way would I blame him for that.

For me I think it is the National Championship and I don't think we really have to worry about him leaving for a while.

Plus all he has to do is look at Wolff and see how that all worked out. ....

I agree, but sometimes the money is what drives these things. It just kinda sucks that we might lose our HC at a time when our program might have the most momentum in school history. I was hoping we could keep him around, see the Gateway go through, and build an FCS dynasty of sorts.

Baldwin would triple his meager salary(at least) and multiply that say for a five year contract and Beau and his family are millionaires...challenges greater...and Wulff is now setting pretty sweet with a few bucks in his pocket making a bundle with the 49er's on the verge of acquiring a Super Bowl ring.

It is just a matter of time before he is snatched up, would love for him to stick around, but the $ and big league will be calling soon...

Heck...Baldwin put his name in for the Weber State job after last season, it was more of a leverage thing i'm sure, so if the big money is there, can't blame him for taking it, he's earned and deserves it.

Yah money is great, but doesn't buy you happiness.
Yes Wulff is sitting pretty having to move to San Fran. but I am sure if you ask him man to man if he would rather be a Head Coach rather than an assistant I am sure he would say a Head Coach.

I realize football fans opinions are worthless, but checked the Aggies forum and seems Matt Wells is the favorite for HC.

Every article I've read points toward Matt Wells being the leading candidate/new head coach, in order to maintain some continuity with their players, and interrupt recruitment as little as possible. Sounds good to me! :thumb:

Looks like we dodged a bullet:

I will support Coach B with whatever decision he makes in the future with regards to his career and honestly would want the best for him, because he's been our best coach probably since Dick Zornes - so I don't want any of our comments coming off the wrong way.

But with that said, I would really love to see this staff stick around for the next couple of years at least. I know that money has a lot to do with these decisions and that even with the success we've had and the potential to increase that success in the future we'll only be able to provide moderate increases in pay to our staff. Personally, I'd love for Coach to be a Jerry Moore type guy that sticks around and builds the program. App State is what it is largely because of Coach Moore, and it'd be awesome to see that replicated to some extent at EWU.

But if/when Coach B decides to move on I'd like to see the reigns handed over to someone within the program. I really feel like EWU has developed a really sound coaching tree. Maybe Best is the next guy, who knows...

On another note, does anyone know if Meyer is going to be a part of the full=time staff, or is he planning on going back to playing?
